John M Bryant
Hello. I found your listing for John M Bryant and your dates and spouse match mine; however, I am showing only one child Nancy (b. about 1850) so all of your listed kids are very exciting.

John's father was Thomas Bryant (1758-1839) who fought in the revolutionary war and one of his wives was Ruth Dunagan.

Thomas Bryant's father was, I believe, Peter Bryant who was in Halifax County, VA prior to the war and ran/owned a grist mill -- Peter later moved to the greater Winston Salem, NC area. I believe that in his elder years, he went to Surry County, NC to live with Thomas and his family.

Do you have any additional information on this part of the family?

I don't remember quoting a book. If I did, it was from O. E. Pilson. He went around to every cemetery in Patrick County, Virginia. He wrote down the name of each one, along with the birth and death.

It is a great book.

Darn, I almost forgot. Thank you for the pictures of the Keith family. It really means a lot to me.

God Bless,

Taylor Whisonant,

See this link for our association's homepage:

http://surrygenealogy.wordpress.com/

Esther's email is on the front page as EPDJ or something like that.

I live in Greensboro but have maternal ancestors who originated in Surry County. I love to just get word or directions from people, walk to their homes, ask permission to search for the cemetery or sometimes they go with he. Some people think I'm nuts, but it lets me relax and wonder how our ancestors lived (and survived) way back then, etc.

I also document cemeteries and post them on CemeteryCensus also, which is where our Association decided to post our results. If one of us had posted them on Find A Grave for the whole association, we'd constantly be making changes in ownership and asking for transfers to someone, and then they might die so we'd be asking for another transfer, etc., so we decided to post on Cemetery Census which is not in the business of counting who has the most burials, etc. Plus, I like to give family relationships by going to the Register of Deeds and looking up the parents of those buried, who they married, etc.

Hello,

Not sure if you are male or female, but it appears you live in or near Surry County and have ancestors there. Have you considered volunteering to find and document old cemeteries with the Surry County Genealogical Association? I'm one of a handful of people who have volunteered since 2006 to locate and document old cemeteries and we're now focusing on going back and documenting the burials. Some of us are members of Find A Grave to post family lines, but all of our Association data is posted on CemeteryCensus.com.

Also, if you;re not a member of the Assn, get in touch with Esther Johnson (she's on Find A Grave) and we'd be happy to have you join us.
