RE: Virginia Hartz and Martha Barlow photos
Hi Leslie, Thanks for the reply, I have been prowling around that section lately. It is amazing how the right light really brings out the best in those old markers! At other times they are barely readable. Yes, the large Hartz marker is still off its base and lying on the ground.

My pleasure! I also took pictures of the others in the family plot and have uploaded them. Hopefully these will help your research as well. Good luck!

You're welcome. Thank you for pointing me to your grandfather's memorial, he must've been a very smart and civic-minded person! I can see a family resemblance too! :)

RE: the Barlows
Not related. I am on the board of the Streatorland Historical Society, and was doing research on the downtown business'.
I think they originaly had a boot shop on Main St.
The fellow that owns the building told me about the Barlow sign.
The 1871 fires, Chicago had one, Streator did too, plus one, the worst, north of Green Bay, Wis.
I can't remember if their store, on the south side of Main was destroyed. The buildings across the street were totaled. Earliest Streator newspapers are from about 1872. So, it is difficult to research.
I kinda lost some info, when my computer crashed. I will see what I can find.

Virginia Barlow
and David Frederick Le Roy apparently were married in Streator on Sept 22, 1887.
web site for La Salle County Genealogy Guild located in Ottawa. They have an online search engine to confirm the marriage date, also they can send you a copy for a small fee. Or, you can have it emailed to you. They fellow that does the email files does a great job. In many cases, his copy is better than the original.
Also, take a look at their wills/probates.
