RE: Questions (3)
A reply to your questions.

Question # 1 -
How do you get to Guitre for her last name instead of Mocshino? The nuns in Easteren Iowa have her as Barbara Mocshino who is married to Sebastian. Same family - same children

Answer: I get it from her marriage record [Saint-Louis, Moselle, Births, Marriages, and deaths 1792-1842, 1811 Marriage records, Wingert-Guitre; FHL microfilm 1981542] as well as from the marriage record of her son Marcus [SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church (Williamsville, New York, USA), Marriage of Marcus Wingert and Catherine Diebold; FHL microfilm 1,292,807]

Question # 2
My granddad George A Wingert said they were from Alsauce Lorien France and they were Pennsylvania Dutch -- then my Uncle says the name Wingert is German, I was told we were France but my Uncle says we are German who lived in Alsauce Lorien France - so what have you been told German or French?

Answer: Sebastian was born in Garrebourg, Moselle, Lorraine, France and Marie Barbara Guitre was born in Heyersburg, Phalsbourg, Muerthe, France. However I would guess that the chances are very high that Sebastian's ancestors moved in to the area from southern Germany. I can only trace the line back as far as Sebastian's greatgrandfather Jean Wingert. Jean Wingert was married 22 Feb 1709 in Arzviller, Mosselle Lorraine France, and died 25 Jun 1736 in Arzviller, Moselle, Lorraine, France but I have no birth record for him, so I do not know where he was born.

It is generally accepted that Wingert is a German name that means "person who lives near a vineyard"

Question # 3
Do you pronounce it Win-gert, or Wing-ert?

Answer: I pronounce it Wing-ert

I would like to exchange further information with you if you will send me you e-mail. My email is

RE: Canadian Relatives
Hi Dixie!
So good to hear from you! If you find out how to do the phone thing, that would be great. I also have North American long distance on my plan.
It would be wonderful to be connected to the rest of the family! It was actually my brother, Tom, who found the website and the information a couple of years ago. He's my only sibling and lives in B.C. I have a cousin in Manitoba who has done a family tree and I'm sure he'll be thrilled to find out we've had contact! Hope to hear from you soon!

Canadian Relatives
I believe I am a gr gr grand-daughter of Sebastian Wingert. My gr grandfather was Marcus Wingert, married to Katherine Diebold. My grand-father was John Wingert, who moved to Sask. Canada in Nov. 1909. He married Katherine Meuller in Gilbertville, Iowa, on Feb 20, 1900, and they raised 11 children. One of these was my father, Joseph, born in Gilbertville in 1903. I would have information on all of the children. The last one died in 2012 at age 89.
I am now 75 yrs. old and have always been interested in family history. It would be wonderful to be in contact with some American relatives! Hoping to hear from you,
Lois (Wingert) Kelln

RE: George A. Wingert is linked
Dixie: I think that I am missing a generation, you are (correct me if I am wrong) George C (Gee's) daughter, and George A. is your grandfather?

......George A's parents site is the one I created at St. Stephen's in Bridgewater....

I linked Jacob Frank Wingert (Bridgewater) to his parents John Jacob and Teresia Elizabeth Berger Wingert who are buried in Randolph, NE.

I have a list of Jacob Frank Wingert's siblings....children of John Jacob and Teresia Elizabeth Berger Wingert.....

sorry it is sort of a mess...I am on my lunch, if you would like a list of George A's aunt's and uncles, I have it.....nuff said!

RE: George A. Wingert is linked
Dixie my Mom died in 2010 and my Dad in 1995.

They are at

Charlotte Mary Beumer nee Kotz
James Eugene Beumer

St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD.

PS...are you the one/ or do you know who put together the memorial for your Dad's grandparents in Randolph, NE? I was going to suggest that all 11 of the children's names be added and who they married.

RE: George A. Wingert is linked
Dixie: Look at must have already linked to it, that is Jacob Frank Wingert's grave at St. Stephen's Catholic Cemetery in Bridgewater, SD.

Jacob and Frances Wingert nee Wiebel went to live with their oldest daughter....Mary Kotz at Bridgewater, SD. They are buried in St. Stephen's Catholic Cemetery.

You got it right on the generation thing. My mother was Connie Beumer...married to James Beumer, she is buried in St. Michael's Cemetery along with everyone else. The only one left from that generation is a great uncle Milton Schulz who married Clara E. Kotz (John and Mary's youngest daughter)...otherwise they are all dead....

I also found the graves of Jacob's parents in Randolph, Nebraska....John Jacob Wingert and Theresia Elizabeth Berger...if you are interested I do have a list of all of their 11 kids (but I will have to do that later as I have to go to work now).....D.C.

My Mom was Connie Beumer nee Kotz....I sent a link suggestion to the site as I have George, Mary and Rose's parents site done at St. Stephens in Bridgewater if you would like to link George to them....thank you.

The 2nd husband of Mrs. McCracken was Wm. Franklin Evans, my husband's gr-gr uncle. While the McCrackens haven't been my primary focus, I may have included some info about them at Feel free to contact me again, sending your e-mail address, and I will have looked over his tree by then.
