Garrett Hill - Middletown NJ
I just received a photo request for James Ashton in Garrett Hill. According to Find A Grave it is a virtual cemetery created by you. Is it an actual physical location? I live in Middletown and know of no cemetery by that name. Could you send me the location? Rick Jones

James Perry Beall 1904
You need to look at the memorial for Mr Beall and check the obituary found in Crawford County records stating that James Perry Beall's father was Comodor Beall .. .??
I'm not related, just adding obits -- saw some conflicting data & thought you would be interested.

The right Mattern...
Hi Sandra,

I'm looking for a way to make sure I have the correct lineage - My mother-in-law was a Mattern. I have traced this line back, and am now running into the "Mottern"s. Before I go any further, I'd like to make sure I have the right people.

Would you be able to help? I have a SoR application from 1957 that briefly explains the surname change, but to me that seems like "Mottern" would continue and the "Mattern" would disappear.

Please let me know if you are able to help - if possible, I'd love to run a list of names by you or even double check a tree if you're on Ancestry.

Thank you!

I'm making myself confused - It IS a dup of 34971732. The problem is the spelling; Van Schoonoven vs Van Schoonover.

Are you related to anyone descended from Samuel Holmes #93482990 & Mary Holmes #93482789? I just added Natalie Holmes as a daughter.

RE: Cahill
Philip E. Cahill, and Mary Maguire,(McGuire)? My sister, and I are just into genealogy. My family had a lot of pictures, and documents, letters, etc. I have also met some awesome cousins on genealogy sites and gotten very good copies of records, photos, etc. I keep pretty busy. I have 3 sons 2,4,6. I don't get a lot of time to do genealogy but if you give me a little more information I can send you some emails with what info I have. What child of Philip E. Cahill, and Mary McGuire are you descended from? Thanks. Daniel

I am, in fact, descended from Aquilla & Mary Rawlings Huff, from their daughter, Abigail. But, I still am considering the transfer for personal reasons. Let me ponder it for a day or two.How are you descended?

Added by Madeline Welch on Jan 24, 2013 11:10 AM

Hello Sandra-
Rec'd your request for transfer, doing it now.
Your note was so business like, I almost didn't know it was you. lol

Any updates on Pioneer Cem. lately? Please give your friend Penny my regards, God bless her heart. She took great pics at Pioneer Cemetery and wants so much to preserve the cemetery. I am still trying to get someone to listen, maybe its time to fly to OH & try in person again.

Sending Maria to you-

RE: Merritt
Sandra, I just checked the records again. Josiah Merritt and Sarah Luckey were married in Athens County, Ohio on Feb 16, 1832. They are listed in South Brown, Vinton County, Ohio in the 1850 census. Parts of Vinton County were in Athens County earlier. The listing in 1850 shows Josiah age 44 and born in New Jersey. Sarah ate 35 b Ohio, William age 17 born Ohio, Miles age 14 born Ohio, Huldah age 13 born Ohio, Lucy age 10 born Ohio, Susan age 7 born Ohio, and Lawson age 4 born Ohio. I also found where Josial died and is buried in King, Washington. Date of death was 1882.
If your descendant was William Cummings Merritt, born 1822 then perhaps you are part of my William Merrit family instead of Josiah.

RE: Merritt
Sandra, based on the information you just gave and the marriage record of Josiah and Sarah, Josiah would have only been 13 years old when William Cummings Merrit was born. They were not married until (I believe) it was 1832. Your Josiah did have a son William but he was born much later than 1822 according to census records. My William Cummings Merrit was the son of William Merrit and Mary Lillibridge Merrit. His paternal grandmothers maiden name was Cummings. I found the marriage record for Josiah and Sarah Lucky Merrit at Family Search. If you check the 1850 federal census I think you will see that your William Merrit was born much later than 1822. As far as I know, My Merritt family does not connect with yours. My William Cummings Merritt was living next door to his father and mother in the 1850 census.

William C. Merritt
Sandra, I just did some checking on family search. Josiah Merritt and Sarah Luckey were married on February 16, 1832 in Athens County, Ohio. The William C. Merritt buried at Forest Rose was born in 1822.

the 1880 census shows a Josiah Merritt who was married to a Margaret had a son Milton R and a son William C who was 13 years old in 1880 which made him born in 1867.

You might want to recheck some of your records. My William C was born in 1822 and his grandmother's maiden name was Cummings.

Thanks for the information. I already have all the information on Rachel and Nehemiah. Rachel had a brother listed in the census. I'm surprised this is not him as he had the same birth date. Also Rachel had a brother Benomi that married a Sisson. Where was you William C. born. Could it somehow be a mixup.

William Cummings Merrit
Found his marker on find a grave and the location where he is married. He was a brother to Rachel Merrit Pratt. She was my 5th great grandmother. I am trying to find an obituary for William in hopes it might list her. Do you by chance know of have a copy of an obituary for him. Would certainly appreciate a copy. Rachel was older than William and she was married before the 1850 census.
