RE: Jefferson Lee Tumlinson
Hi Lindsay,

Sounds good The death certificate I found for a Lizzie Tumlinson shows death date of 8 Nov 1903 Burnet Co., TX. It unfortunately does not indicate where she was buried or relatives etc.

Kind regards,

Dee

Clara Mae Ferguson again
Hi again - sorry about the second message but I just noticed Mary Elizabeth's obituary on her memorial. I see that Clara is listed as her stepdaughter. Something seemed screwy somewhere, and I wasn't sure where. The 1900 census shows them as married six years, so ca 1894, and she's mother of 3, with 3 living. There are only 3 in the household including Clara. So then why would the obituary show her as Elizabeth's stepdaughter? I had to go looking. This is why I always ask for documentation. No offense, I know it's difficult when a man marries multiple times and the women's names are similar.

Okay, so I found out Mary Elizabeth Slaughter who died in 1954 is actually maiden name Smith, daughter of Joseph Smith and Elizabeth Davidson per her death certificate and the obit you posted; and probably Jefferson Tumlinson's 3rd wife. I did find your tree on Ancestry.com. You have Jefferson married to Mary Elizabeth Smith in 1907. The source is Texas Marriages - but it's the 1894 marriage to Elizabeth Slaughter. No other sources noted. I found among other things the following documents:
Death Certificates -
Clara Mae (Tumlinson) Ferguson
Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Tumlinson
Lizzie Tumlinson 1903 in Burnet Co., TX - can't say if it's Lizzie Slaughter for certain

Census
1900 - Lee and Lizzie Tumlinson and family
1910 - Jeff L. and Ola Tumlinson and family
1930 - J. L. and Mary Tumlinson, with W. A.

I could not find 1920 but if it could be found, that could point to the correct marriage year for Lee and Mary and give you a place to start looking.

In the 1910 census - Jeff L. and Ola had been married 0 years -indicating they had just recently married within the past year so 1909 to 1910. She was 31, so by that she'd be born about 1879 in Texas. The census shows it is his 2nd marriage and her first. Listed with them are Clara, Beulah, Avery and Gladys.

So, that's definitely your Tumlinsons. Since Mary was married before to a Mr. Poole (having a son Robert born in 1898 according to your tree), Ola is not Mary. So he must have married Mary after the 1910 census.

If you need any of those records, let me know and I'll email them to you, or the links where you can find them.

Let me know if you are ever able to find Elizabeth (Slaughter) Tumlinson's gravesite and I'll link her to Clara. My main interest is in the Fergusons. You might check with the Burnet county library and see if they have an obituary for her since you were able to find others.

Kind regards,

Dee

Clara Mae Ferguson
Hi Lindsay,

I received your edit suggestion for Clara Mae (Tumlinson) Ferguson. You said that her mother is unknown instead of being Mary Elizabeth (Slaughter) Tumlinson. Can you tell me why - what is your support or documentation?

Her death certificate, the 1900 census and online family trees all show Elizabeth is her mother. Have you found something new?

I appreciate your help.

Kind regards,

Dee

Hello, I posted a grave photo for this memorial. The dates on the stone do not match the dates you listed on the memorial, but I am thinking probably the stone dates are in error. She is buried right beside Monty Powers, who you listed as spouse. If you do feel this is the wrong stone, let me know and I will delete. Thanks for all your work,
Stone

Clara Mae Ferguson - 2nd
Hi Lindsay,

I also got your note on her birth and death place. According to her death certificate she died in Burnet at Shepperd Hospital, not in Marble Falls. I hadn't been able to find anything about her birthplace for certain. Do you have any sources or documentation for what you showed for birth or death places? I'd appreciate anything you'd be willing to share with me. Thanks so much for your help!

Kind regards,

Dee

Clara Mae Ferguson
Hi Lindsay,

Thanks for your note on Clara Mae Tumlinson Ferguson. I had Clara Mae to begin with, but noticed that the tombstone showed Clara May. Although her death certificate does show Mae. Alot of people go by what is on the tombstone, but I try to go by how people would search for the person. Since you pointed it out, and I think about more, the tombstone could be a spelling error, I should use Mae for the memorial. Thank you so much for your help! Are you related to the Fergusons by the way?

Kind regards,

Dee

S;laughter Cemetery, Marble Falls, Texas
Good morning,

I see you have taken several photographs of gravestones in this cemetery.

I would like to photograph all the graves in this cemetery and upload them to findagrave.com.

Perhaps you can give me exact directions to this cemetery and perhaps GPS coordinates. Also the telephone number of anyone I would need to contact to obtain permission to visit this cemetery.

Thanks in advance

John J. Christeson

Thanks for your help. As you know, there are often differing dates of birth or death in Bibles, grave markers, & death certificates.

Thank you for posting the photo of my great-great grandfather's obituary. I assume it is from a Waco newspaper. Do you know the source. Very grateful for this since I have not had a chance to look for it on brief trips back to Waco. Well done!

As it turns out the actual location is: Highland Gardens, Block Z, Lot 44. Name on the marker is Debbie Dula. As a result of two last names she has two memorials #95070889 and #105866511. If you are a relative, you may want to contact "owners" of the memorials to resolve.

RE: Bakers
Neat! The Bakers are descended from Sallie McMurry who was the sister of my great-great-grandmother Ann Eastep. Both sisters came from Alabama to east Texas. Ann died when my great-grandmother Elizabeth Ann was only a baby and Sallie took her in to raise her for awhile until her father remarried. Anyway, again thanks for the additional information.
