I'm sorry, I'm not related to this family. I post many, many photos for Find-A-Grave - some requested, some not. I don't even know which cemetery this person is in. Sorry!

Michael Milliken
RE: Milliken
Gov. Wm G Milliken was the son of James Thacker Milliken & his wife Hildegarde. I haven't researched this line so I don't even know the governor's mother's maiden name. James Thacker Milliken got his middle name from his mother's maiden name, Callie Thacker, who married James Wheelock Milliken. These are the Traverse City MI family, who I've heard are quite prolific, but they do not connect directly with the Millikens I am related to near Ann Arbor MI. The Traverse City Millikens came from Maine, but my relatives near Ann Arbor came from central PA. The Millikens are most definitely Scottish, proven by dna scholars who understand the science much better than I do.

Yes, let me knokw if you find any new names. Adoptions can be tricky. I have a lot of Milliken info, even people I'm not related to.

This is the governor of MI: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=ridlon&id=I22309

RE: Milliken
All photos taken in that cemetery were posted. The monument that has no first names attached was separate from the ones with first names. Posted the surname monument so others would know Millikens were in more than one location in that cemetery.

RE: Milliken
I'm not aware of any Milliken relatives in that part of Michigan. The only relatives that I know who are relatives are mostly in the Ann Arbor area. I was told there were other Millikens in MI but I know the former governor is not a relative of mine, and I believe his family originally came out of the New England states, possibly Maine. Wish I could claim you as a cousin, but my gut feeling is that we are not related. I could be wrong though.

Donna and Dennis,
THANKS YOU SO MUCH! The photographs are really great - clear and readable. I am so glad that you were able to get in contact with the office at the cemetery and that the people there were helpful. Sounds like it probably was Carol I spoke with, as she was very pleasant and accommodating. Again, I really appreciate all the effort you put into getting the pictures for me. Have a great weekend.

RE: Elizabeth Richards Sweet
Sorry to hear that the cemetery is in such bad shape. Went out there several years ago with my cousin and had to pull up to the gate in my blazer going straight up (almost) the drive way. Made it easy to step on the bumper to get over the fence - cousin wouldn't try it. Got some pictures then had to figure out how to back the car out. Went slowly down the hill and the trailer hitch caught on the road and stopped us dead. Cousin panicked imagining having to call a wrecker etc., solved the problem by going back up and coming down on a sharp angle. She was sure we were going to sleep there or roll the truck over!! Great cemetery adventures! Glad to have as a friend. Are you searching the Scott family?

Hi Donna,
Sorry this picture request is turning out to be such a hassle. I had the same problem with trying to reach the cemetery by phone, too, but when I did get someone to answer, the lady was very helpful. She did tell me that the office is staffed between 8-5 M-F Sat 8-1, except for 12-1 for lunch and somebody in the office would give you directions when you stopped in, but with all of the trouble reaching them by phone, I would be hesitant to just show up at the cemetery. I really appreciate your efforts, but if this doesn't work out soon, don't spend too much of your time working on it. Thanks again.

Hi Donna,
I finally contacted the Ottawa Park Cemetery on Wednesday and got the burial info--I just hadn't had an opportunity to get back to you. The woman I spoke to was very helpful and accommodating and provided me with what you will need. She advised me that the office will be closed on Thanksgiving, the Friday and Saturday and Sunday after the holiday, so to get directions to the grave site you will need to visit before Thanksgiving or after the holiday weekend and someone in the office will provide you with directions.

The burial information is: Block 4 Site 439 Graves 5 & 6.

Thanks so much for your help with this. I really look forward to seeing pictures of their headstones. Would you mind looking to see if any of their other family is buried nearby? Geo had a sister Bessie and brother-in-law Lenza Meler who might also be buried there.

You mentioned Oxford Cemetery, but it is Ottawa Park Cemetery, 6180 Dixie Hwy, Clarkston, MI (248-758-3977). Thanks so much.

Hey,
Thanks for contacting me regarding the headstone pictures for my McSparin relatives. I have been trying to reach the cemetery, but have yet been unable to reach anyone--even an answering machine, but I will keep trying and if I am lucky enough to find the burial location information, I certainly will send it to you. I really appreciate your offer to obtain the pictures for me. Thanks again.
