Agnes Burt Philp
Hi Janet,

Nice to meet you. :-]

Thanks for the additional info on Agnes. Agnes' was my Great Grandma Isabell Burt McArthur's oldest sister.
Agnes' parent's, Peter and Margaret Beveridge Burt, were my Great Great Grandparent's. They came over from Scotland with their kids in about 1851.
They first settled in PA. Agnes married there to George Philp. After the Civil War was over Agnes' little sister, Isabell, married David McArthur. The government was giving homesteads in Iowa to the men who fought in the Civil War so the whole family moved west to Iowa except Agnes and her husband. Apparently George did not want anything to do with moving west so poor Agnes was seperated from the family that had moved all over together before that time. I don't suspect she ever saw any of her family again after that time?
In Iowa, Agnes' sister, Margaret, married an Alexander Brown. After securing the deed to the homestead in Iowa, David McArthur wanted to move west to Oregon, so off they went and poor Margaret's husband Alexander Brown did not want anything to do with moving west so then Margaret was seperated from the family.
I have tried finding out more on the Philp tree over the years but never have found too much but have found a few things.
Nathan in Oregon
