RE: Victoria Jones Hall
Thanks for the info on Abraham's stone. And, yes. They do look a lot alike.

I will scan the Will tomorrow and email it to you. There is one stone for both William and Abigail and only their birth and death dates are on it. It needs to be cleaned again as it's hard to read. I have posted a pic of it on their memorial pages. I too have tried to figure out which William is ours in the Civil War records. I assumed he had fought for the Confederate side since he and his father both had several slaves at that time. I can remember my father telling me that they lost everything in the war/after the war and that they came to MO to make a new start. He also said that one female slave came with them. I'm heading to Shelby County early Friday morning! Ready to get back "home."

I'm sure you probably do, but I wanted to make sure you have a copy of Victoria Jones' Will and probate record. If not, let me know as I just located my copies.

RE: Abigail Jones
Yes, I've seen them. Their daughter, Maggie (my g-grandmother) is there, as is Maggie's only child, Salome (my grandmother), and their spouses. I will be there this weekend for a Hager's Grove Church Reunion. Wm and Abigail's son, Joseph, has a headstone that has toppled over and I'm having it repaired. If you want any pictures, just let me know what you want.

RE: Abigail Jones
Hi, Carol. It's so good to meet you. Yes, I have just recently learned that Abigail's maiden name is Willis...her obituary has her maiden name as Ferguson so it's really confusing :) It appears you and I are closely related. Your g-grandmother and my g-grandmother (Maggie Jones)were sisters. One of my first cousins was actually named after your g-grandmother. My aunt said she adored her "Aunt Vic." Do you live in Missouri? My family moved to Mississippi when I was very young, but I own a home in Shelby County and visit often. It would be wonderful to meet you some time. Keep in touch,

LA
(what was this "interesting document" you have on Abigail?)

RE: Victoria MIldred Jones Hall
Hi, Carol

You have the parents of Victoria as: "At the top, a change needs to be made for her parents. They were William and Abigail (Willis) Jones." in your message to me.

And you give their memorial numbers:
William Jones is 131346771
Abigail Jones is 131346914

The Abigail Jones, #131346914, shows her name to be: Abigail (Ferguson) Jones.

Do you know the why the maiden names are not the same?

Hi Carol,

Maybe if you would just use Nugent, and add any links you may have for his parents.

I am no relation.

Thanks again,
John

Very possibly, I am looking into making the connection but have not come across enough to be certain at this time. RE: Massey married Ralls is the path I am taking, there are a lot of my relatives buried at Hager's Grove.

My, I can see the confusion before Ferguson even entered the picture--then that name popped up! I have found lots of times name confusion on DC's with a grand mother's maiden name, even wife or husbands name as mother or father. Thank you for helping me make correction. Also--note the DOD, I did not change to match stone, the DC gave 25th, BUT, I did make a note about that so people would know where I got the date I have posted--not to say that the person doing paperwork got date wrong, but I feel it is important to tell people such things so they can decide for themselves which date to choose.

Again, thank you for your help!!

RE: Titus Belding
Carol, I am so sorry, but the headstone was so worn I could not make out anything that was written on it. I sprayed it with water hoping that would help but as you can see it didn't. Really sad isn't it.

They are in the outdoor gardens, mostly raised beds, fountains, trees, flowers, paved walkways. Nicely done.

Thank you so much for the photo for Victor. He was one of 53 men from L Troop 3rd Squadron of the 11th Cavalry that died in Vietnam. Soon I will have them all back together again where they belong and then my work will be done.

Hello Carol,

Although I created the profile, I am unable to remove the old photo. I hope my inquiry with the cemetery advocate prompted them to review several other old stones that may have been incomplete. Thank you for your effort. It sounds like the cemetery may have audited the sections of Rose's neighbors. I'm sure this is making them smile from above. :) Donna

Hi Carol, The photo I have is from when my grandma died and Claude was still living. I would love to have an updated photo that has my grandpas' d-date on it.
I do not know the location of the grave but I will get it and add it to my request.

Thanks, Lowell

RE: Joseph Maltby
No problem! I thought it was a very impressive gravestone as well. Glad I could help! We are lucky to be into February and have 38 degree weather! Unheard of for South Dakota. Secretly I'd rather take winter pics then summer ones, when the birds and the bees are out! :)
