Another nonexisent cemetery
Beverly, Please delete this memorial for there is no such cemetery in Polk County. The obit only meant he was buried in the Locke plot of Brock Cemetery and he already has a memorial there. This nonexistent cemetery also needs to be removed. Every cemetery that has ever been in Polk County is already on Findagrave and all 23,000 + burials that were done before 2003 are already added, so you will never need to create a new cemetery here. Thanks!

No such cemetery
Beverly you have added two memorials to a cemetery you created called Hiwassee Union Baptist Church, and yes, there is a church by that name but the cemetery is called Reliance Community. However, nowhere in either of their obits did it state that those 2 people were interred there, just that the family held their memorial service at the church. Please remove both and do not add to Reliance Community until you have proof they are interred there, or we will have them removed from there, too. Thanks!

Thank you for reminding me. I've been learning alot about these impressive 13th Cav. men. Many of them grew up and died in the area I now call home. I actively search for their graves and stories.

RE: James H Gourley
Beverly I really wish I knew. We have traced our family back to Samuel Gourley in Ireland who was married to Catherine Dickey. His sons George and John moved to Westmoreland County, PA between 1770-1780. From what we know the Gourley's there stayed in PA for several generations. My father Kenneth H. Gourley was born in Steubenville, OH. I have not found anyone so far who came south to Tennessee.

Carrie Burns
Hello Beverly,

Yes, Carrie had a sister Rettie Burns (12 Sep 1914-10 Nov 1988 - Burns Cem.)

The 1940 census taken in Blount Co., Tn. (ED-5-29A, sht 12B) on 18 May has Carrie Burns-46, son: John Ross Webb-22, road repair, sister: Rettie Burns-42, and her dau: Billy Grace Keeter-10 living on the Wears Valley Rd.

Two sisters living together, BUT no husbands???

Thanks, your information is in line with what I am working on.

I'm getting very close with my research on this line; now, to compile all of it - probably close to 250 pages+ w/all the gravestones/obits/pictures.

Thanks again,

RE: James B. Cissom
Interesting. James's mom was my dad's 1st cousin. I remember her dad (my uncle Frank Farmer) living near my grandparents on lower river road. I had several relatives along that road including the Harris and Lyles Families. Small world :)
