RE: Newman Hawks
Hi Marnie,

I had uploaded a photo to Newman L Hawks Jr #80141595 death 1971. After I did I realized that I had previously uploaded that photo to Newman Lawrence Hawks #80455284 1878-1967. So I deleted the photo. There is also another Newman Lawrence Hawks Jr #80140038 1910-1971. Previouly I uploaded a photo to his memorial the name on this gravestone was Lawrence Hawks. I am wondering if I have mixed up something. I will be going back to the Hawks Family Plot to see if I have missed any gravestones. Could the 2 Newman Hawks Jr be duplicate memorials?

Bill VV and I are working on DAR and are wondering where you got your information. As we do not live in New York, any written information you can give us to prove these things would be much appreciated. Do you happen to know where Sylvia's husband FRANS is buried? Thanks for any help, Denise Bielecki dbielecki2000@yahoo.com

WOW! The descendants of those buried in Protection Cemetery owe you a great big huge "Thank You!", whether they know it or not. On their behalf, my hat is off to you, as I know what a huge task you have undertaken. If only more contributors were like you.

With deep appreciation for your dedication, . . .

RE: Constantine
What an interesting conundrum. There seem to be several spellings of Serena, Cyrena, Cyrene.

There appear to be 2 memorials for her in Protection Cemetery:
1) Serena A. CONSTANTINE - http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=38537010
2) Cyrena DAKE - http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=128470910

Her father is George Perry DAKE at Oakwood Cemetery, Erie, NY - http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=8320655

Her mother is Minerva Sarah (Andrews) DAKE at Protection Cemetery - http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=38536537

The memorials of her father and mother link to her (Cyrena) and her siblings. However, her parents are not linked to each other. Understandably, as Minerva died 43 years before George, he remarried this time to Tryphena.

I just love genealogy and the mysteries it can uncover. Good luck getting everything sorted.

RE: Constantine
It seems likely there could be a connection, but I am not sure. I did find an 1860 US Census record for Sardinia, Erie County, NY, which lists:
John Constantine (29)
Cyrena Constantine (18)
Zilla Constantine (01).
Cyrena is nearly the same as Serena, and you know census takers. In addition, Sardinia is only about 9 miles south of Holland. Could be!

Good luck! I will keep you in mind if I learn more.

RE: Titus Family
Marnie,
I don't think that it is well known that you can transfer back to the original "owner" and get it deleted. It is just something I tried, and it worked. I am a bit quirky sometimes, and usually can find a way to get something done. My family says it is my mathematical mind!! Ha! Anyway, as I hit roadblocks on some of the sites that aren't family I will get them transferred to you. Thanks again for all that you are doing...very much appreciated. Lisa

RE: Titus Family
Marnie, I randomly picked up the name from the lists that I had and tried to find more information. I would be willing to transfer to you because I exhausted my sources. I read both your messages...I concur. Lisa

I had submitted the deletion, as I was not the original creator of the memorial I can not delete it directly it has to go thru find a grave. I have resubmitted to find a grave for deletion.

RE: Samuel & Dolly
I could not find a Samuel Davis in 1840 but I think there was one in 1830 and may have died afterwards. That's the best I could pinpoint on Sam.

RE: Nathaniel Pendleton Davis' wife
I am assuming Samuel Davis came to the area with Dolly, and yes, they had 12 kids. Enos Davis, I believe, was one of the younger children of Sam and Dolly.

Awesome find! BTW: have you come across any info on Nathaniel Davis's parents (Samuel and Dolly Davis)? I know Dolly was last living on 3 June 1865, born about 1780 in Vermont. Wondering if you uncovered her maiden name.

Ok. I think I have a solution. I cannot delete after I transfer, but if you transfer back to me, then I can work with it. Lisa

RE: Lucius VanValkenburg
Another question: on the 1900 census, it is denoted that Polly Van Volkenburg had three children, all of whom are living at the time. Was Lucius hers? Lisa

RE: Lucius VanValkenburg
OK...this is what I think. I converted the photograph to black and white; it looks like ae 14 yrs 1 month and 4 days which would make the birth date June 28, 1856.

This makes more sense to me as it follows closely the other siblings birthdates rather than being almost ten years later. This would make the notation on the 1870 census records an error; it should have been 14 years instead of 4.

What do you think? Lisa

Richard Crooks
RE: Crooks in Holland
Thanks for the information Marnie, I and apparently everyone else had the Crook boys and Farrington girls reversed! Elijah went missing allegedly working a boat out on Indiana on the Mississippi, no information on where Ira disappeared to, even "Crook, an American family" generally considered the bible of our family history, had no clue. They are not listed in any Cattaraugus county cemeteries that I have found. There is a "Phantom" cemetery that Nathan Crook had started, that has long since been plowed under. No listing of internments though I ASSUME their mother is buried there.

Hanna Farrington married Elijah Crook Elijah went missing on the Mississippi
1 Alfred Wyman Crook married Cynthia Jane Hawks
A Selina Hanna Crook-Blood
B Lewis Jerome Crook
C Ira W Crook
2 Ezra Crook b 1837 NY He is another one who disappears?
3 Selina Crook? You say she is on the cemetery list as a daughter of Hanna, I will wait till you have her dates posted on find a grave before I add her on. Have not seen any other references to her.

Permillia Farrington married Ira Crook, then Aaron Rogers, 4 stepchildren but apparently did not give birth to her own that we know of.

RE: Moores
Hi Marnie,
I Live in Arcade and only about 5-10 minutes from cemetery. I'm retired so I'm available pretty much anytime. I also have a wand but haven't used it much to know what I'm doing with it. Would also like to meet Amy and see if she has any more on the Moore family other than that Sarah Conner married a Moore. Let me know when you will be coming and I will be there.
