Kathy Billings
Perry Benton
Hello,
My name is Katheryn Hutsell Billings. My mother is Helen Mary Benton Hutsell. Her father was Perry Benton. In addition to Howard, my mother also had brothers Mervin and Abby. I do have a few pictures taken years ago. My mother is still living in Calif. at age 92, but her mind has been slipping for some time now. I have lived here in South Carolina for almost 43 years. I was happy to find information on my relatives on this site.

Yes, I think this must be the same Nelson Tyler that you wrote about. I've updated his memorial and would love for you to add the headstone photo. Thanks for sending the information.

You're missing Jean, between Antoine and Jacques. Jean is the father of Jacques, not Antoine. FROM "THE MOUTONS": My direct ancestors in order: Antoine: Born and died in France; Jean: Born Marseille, France, 1685, Died Beaubassin, Acadie, c. 1740; Jacques: Born Grand Pré, Acadie, 1714, Died Beaubassin, Acadie, c. 1750; Jean Diogene dit "Neveu": Born Beaubassin, Acadie, 1740, Died St. Martin Parish, 1802; Jean Fréderic: Born St. James Parish, 1768, Died St. Martin Parish, 1815; Jean Augustin: Born St. Martin Parish, 1796, Died Vermilion Parish, 1880; Toussaint dit "Lessaint": Born St. Martin Parish, 1816, Died Vermilion Parish, 1897; Onezieme Lessin: Born Vermilion Parish, 1855, Died Vermilion Parish, 1942; Joseph Clodiste: Born Vermilion Parish, 1875, Died Perry, LA, 1936; Joseph Clodiste is my grandfather, buried with his wife (Odilia David) in the St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery and Mausoleum in Abbeville. I created and manage their memorials on Find-A-Grave. If you live near Lafayette, the Lafayette Parish library on Jefferson Street has a section devoted to genealogy. I'm pretty sure they have "The Moutons" book.

Cossinade is about 3 miles northwest of Kaplan on LA Hwy 13. It was a thriving community, but began to decline about the time that the Holy Rosary Church was moved from Cossinade to Kaplan, about 1900. The church owned (and still owns) the Cossinade cemetery. The cemetery is still active. Google Vermilion Parish Cemeteries. Probably your first hit will be a web site with all the cemeteries in Vermilion Parish. Scroll down to Cossinade. Click on the icon that looks like a headstone. You will get a list prepared by Mr. Edwin Hebert in July 1996. It's a text file. I don't see Azelie Abshire in the list. No Mrs. Lessin either.

I remember at one time you had husbands (1) Joseph Alleman and (2) Luke Dugas on Marie Aureline's site. I have same info...was this incorrect as you have removed the husbands names?

Try again, the marker is on-line now. That happens some times, must be a flaw in the system.

CROWLEY IS ONLY 20 MILES AWAY, RAYNE IS ANTHER 8 TO 10 MINUTES, IOTA IS ONLY 15 MINUTES AND ELTON IS ANTHER 20MINUTES. ALL THESE TOWNS ARE LESS THAN 25 MINUTES AWAY. LIKE I SAID , IF THE FUNERAL HOME IS LISTED IT IS MOST LIKLEY I GOT IT FROM THERE. I FORGET TO ADD THE SOURCE.

ALL THESE FUNERAL HOMES ARE LISTED ON THE INTERNET.
NEWSPAPER FROM OPELOUSAS IS THE DAILY WORLD. ALSO LAFAYETTE PAPER IS THE DAILY ADVERTISER. ALL ARE ON THE WEB.LAKE CHARLES PAPER IS THE AMERICAN PRESS.

ALL THESE TOWNS ARE CLOSE TO EUNICE.

I AM NOT SURE WHICH SMITH FAMILY YOU ARE ASKING ABOUT. THE OBITS THAT HAVE THE FUNERAL HOME SHOWING IS PROBABLY WHERE I GOT THEM. SOME OBITS ARE OLS, IF THEY HAVE "LCAP", THOSE ARE FROM THE LAKE CHARLES AMERICAN PRESS.

RE: Clarification of Note.
The Find A Grave photo request indicated that the grave was located in the Cedar Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery. The link to that cemetery includes a photo of a cemetery which is, in fact, of the Cedar Grove Methodist Church Cemetery.
The grave of your relative is located in the Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery which is located at 3905 Big Woods Road, Kingstree, SC. This cemetery is about a mile and a half away from the one identified in the photo request as the location of the grave.

RE: Profile Photo
Sometimes a photo just captures your attention, I totally understand! This one is special to me because it was the first photo I found when I started doing genealogy research, which is why I'm using it on Find A Grave. Someone had donated a copy of the photo to the local library's photo archives and I found it entirely by accident searching for something else. I loved how handsome he was and the archivist was nice enough to let me make photocopies.

RE: Profile Photo
Hello,

The McGee names you mentioned don't ring a bell with me. The McGee family I trace to came to Maryland in the 1600s and then to Georgia in the 1700s. However, even the McGee line that I descend from is very, very large, and I haven't researched all of it.

Hello,

The gentleman on my profile page is my GGG Uncle, James Madison McGee. He was the third son of Perry McGee and Muhulda Long McGee of Crawford County, GA. Would this be one of your family lines?

RE: Mayo Benton (1899-1913?)
I'm sorry but I don't know anything else. I believe maw-maw told us this. All I can remember is that it was her brother and he was hit by lightening. I have a terrible memory. :-( Of course I didn't pay attention to a lot back then because I was young. I so wish I had asked questions before my grandfather died. I'll try to look at pictures that my grandfather had when I have some time but he didn't write on the backs.

Petra,
Thanks for asking. I don't remember knowing her brothers and sisters. I remember hearing that she had a brother that was killed by lightening while sitting under a tree. I would be happy for you to keep the memorials of her brother and sisters.

Thank you for the links for Olivia Benton Randle's parents. Olivia was officially my step-grandma. Maw-maw was the only grandmother I knew and the only mother that my mom really knew. My mother's mother died when she was 4 and my grandfathter soon remarried to Olivia.

Marli one of my requests is for my great great grandparents Hypolite Leger & Marie Duhon. Chances are their gravestones are illegible so I was wondering if that is the case and if you have time could you possibly copy the burial record text for me from the office. Thanks
