RE: Jesse M Wilks & Aurora visit.
Don't forget to include Branson, MO in your travel plans. We don't really have much here in Aurora, but we are only 45-50 miles from Branson.

Old Aurora City Cemetery
Was talking to Mr. Terry Ash @ Maple Park cemetery office today. He informed me that when the City Hall burned down in 1906 or 1909 or something the records were lost. So the actual location of many of the 'guests' is questionable. This is one reason why they no longer bury people there. Over the years, various people have attempted to make records of the place, so much of what he has is from piecing together 2 or 3 records. Accidents, weathering, and vandals have taken their toll on the place, too. I just found out (the day I Photoed Mr. Wilks) I was actually touching the (broken) headstone of someone else I was looking for but it was unreadable. Mr. Ash said today that it was the one NEXT to "Polly". I remembered Polly & remembered trying to read the broken stone. Since the one on the other side of Polly was mostly OK, it has to be the broken one. Now just waiting on weather to clear.

Jesse M Wilks- Aurora Grave
First time I've actually been in that cemetery. Been by it many times as I sometimes shop @ 'Price-Cutter (P/C)'. The Cemetery is bordered on the South by the Price- Cutter parking lot. To the north is E. Rock St. On the East is S. Park Ave. which is interrupted by the Price-Cutter parking lot. By the way, All is bordered on the west by S. Elliott Ave (the main N-S route through Aurora). The (E-W) street/ road through the middle of the cemetery is closed to traffic. I suggest you go through the N side of P/C lot and turn N on S. Park Ave. & park in the Church parking lot, to your left (west) is the closed road. The Monument is about 20 feet North of the closed road, about half way through the park. One of the largest monuments in the cemetery.

RE: Webb memorial
I copied the obituary and if family members were mentioned it waas because of the obituary. All obituaries list surviving family members. I do not have a home computer. First chance I have I will review the memorial.

RE: Victoria Amster
Thank you so much, I appreciate your help. I found out recently that the wrong name for my mother was put on my adoption papers. Illinois now allows original birth certificates to be opened if the birth parents don't object, that was 2 years ago but I just found out in Oct. when I received mine I found out my mothers name was Virginia Conway.
Located the family but haven't contacted anyone yet, my mother passed in 2005.

Check Sarah Broom Stratton Strong 1839-4/30/1909 at Wildcat. I have a photo up but not sure if there are any others. I remember taking this one, it is enclosed next to Sanger, middle up on left of paved lane into cem. She is #54239968. I just gave it a quick look on f/g.

You're welcome, Dot. I don't usually add a picture if there is already one there, but I thought in this case my picture was probably a little better so I did go ahead and add it.

I visited Silver Lake Cemetery today and found that most of the area's stones are toppled. I do not want to leave a more detailed message in public, so please email me with your email address so I can give you more info. Thanks, TimV

Sure, and I forgot to answer "yes" to your using the Daniel Purnell photo. If there's a place for a photo credit, put "Historical Society of Oak Park and River Forest. And please let me know if you find any family members with info on Daniel and Carrie.
