RE: Bennie Duran
Hi Susan,
No I am not related to the Duran family. I am just updating as many Hispanics buried at Oakland Cemetery as possible and in doing that I am also trying to find and connect families. If you go to the edit button and request a transfer I will send it to you so you can update the Duran family. Thanks and I am sorry for your loss of Catarino Duran. God bless.

RE: George David and Annas Lou Walker Edgar
Susan,
I am so sorry that I have taken so long to answer you.
It would seen that George David is a 1st cousin 3x removed to my husband Wayne. Related through his mother, Becky Rimmer.
I would also be related through Becky's mother, Polly Whitfield. Yes, after many years of working on genealogy, I found that my husband and I have a common ancestor.... James Towler Whitfield.
I would be glad to share info.

LADONNA GREER COLLETT
Stanford & Minnie Slaughter
Hi Susan, I have maps of all the sections of Sunset, and also had the locations of Stanford & Minnie on their memorials. After receiving your message I went back to the cemetery again. Welbourne,Stanford,& Billy are side by side with two spaces next to them where their parents would be. I took flowers to the locations and took a photo for the memorials. Just wanted you to know I did recheck.

Mary Jane is not a member of my family so this information came from somebody else who asked me to add it to the memorial.

RE: Bettie Landers Turner
It appears that this family was uneducated. We cannot take the ages in census at face value. I have seen people only age 3 or 4 years between census every 10 years.

WITH THAT SAID: It was not uncommon for girls ages 13, 14 and 15 to marry back then. Most of the families were poooor farmers and if a family had a bunch of girls they tried to marry them off as soon as possible with hope of using son-in-law for cheap labor.

OLD FARMERS SAYING:
Farmers curse: boy calves and girl babies.
Boy calves did not reproduce and girl babies could not work like boys when they grew up.

I DO NOT FEEL THIS WAY......

RE: Bettie Landers Turner
I believe there were mistakes on Census Forms.

She was probably 13 or 14 before marriage.

You will note that she married in 1886 and did not have a child until 1990.

Girls young as age 13 married back then!!!!

I QUESTIONED the age also.

RE: Orlean Breeden
You are so welcome, Susan! Thank you for such a kind comment. Orlean W. Breeden's marker was located under a large, shady pine tree... one of the prettiest sites in the cemetery, in my opinion. As soon as I can, I plan to go back to look for her son Dan's grave site, as it began raining before I could complete a thorough search. Hopefully, I'll find it next time! :)

Char Clark
FAG corrections
Dear Susan,
Please forgive me for taking so long to get back to you re: corrections for George F. Adair. I have been in and out of the hospital battling cancer, my family moved me here to FL in Jan. and I wassupposed to be dead by March. But, God is still on his throne and making miracles, I am living proof! The Dr now says I will live months and months and possibly years. My internet access will be very limited for the time being. I am moving back to GA this week and it will take some time for me to get settled and get internet.
Thanks for your understanding.
God bless,
Char

Amy Freeman Frost
Turner Family
I was wondering if you had any information about any living neices or nephews of Mary Magdalene Turner. I have tried to contact Kathy Turner Montgomery; however, I've never received a reply.

Also, is the Chick family from Huntsville?

Thank you,
Amy Frost

RE: William Thomas Baxter # 80295903
I have checked the location of William Thomas Baxter's headstone and it is adjacent to a couple of GARNER family headstones. One of these relates to Florida Texas Baxter Garner. Her online memorial states that she was the daughter of W.T. Baxter and Tonelia.

RE: William Thomas Baxter
Sorry, but their names are not recorded on the directory located at the cemetery. There are a couple of very small broken headstones near the Kelly graves. The headstones for Allye B. Kelly, T.P. Kelly Jnr., Thomas P. Kelly and Lurah B. Kelly are located in the immediate vicinity for that of Tonelia C. Baxter (the inscription on her headstone reads "Mother".

I'll go back to Oakwood this afternoon to check. I'll let you know. I've just carried out a quick online check and the memorial immediately above the one I entered mentions him as the husband.
