Ennis Cemetary
Tim, How did you get the name Ennis Cemetary as we were always told it was Shuffit Cemetary. Since it wasn't deeded, I'm sure it has been changed. When Kizzie and Holland, and James were burried, it was shown on their memorial as Shuffit Cemetary. Would you research and find out when/how/why the name was changed to Ennis?

We are trying to figure out how the Ennis' are related as no one can figure out why they are in a family cemetary that should be purely Jessie/Mercer/England relations.

My mom, Linda S Mercer Griffin, and I have been trying to find information on the Mercer side of the family. We can provide some updates for Calvin and Annie England, as well as James Alfred Mercer and Kizzie M England Jessie Mercer.

Please let us know what you have and what you need.

Martha Bottoms
Thank you for the info on Martha's husband. I wonder why they weren't buried in the same cemetery?

RE: Cawthorn Cemetery
There are several Fields buried in the cemetery I am referring to and the same one that John Calvin "Cal" Cawthorn and both of his wives are buried.. it was named to me as the Cawthorn Home Burying Grounds. We were there in 2000 and it was in bad shape but got a message from Butch Gibson that they started maintaining it around 2002 and it is kept up now.

Now Milton Fields and Rachel Fields how are they connected to the Cawthorn surname...I have a Milton but have him as being married to Edmonia "Eddy" Cawthorn daughter of Amanda Jane Cawthorn.. do I have something incorrect?

Lowell and Charlene were buried in the cemetery and was moved by family to the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery... When I was there in 2000 I took lots of photos as we were taken to all of the places by Pat Cawthorn who did live in Fl moved back to the area and has passed since we met him.

He gave me copies of lots of the Cawthorn family and share some homeplaces and cemetery stories that I would never had known without his help. I had searched for years for information on my grandma's first husband with many years of no luck we only had 1 photo of him with a hunting dog. He and my grandma had a child and Herman died when Kendrick was less than a year old and the following year Kendrick died so my grandma lost both at a young age and married again but nothing of her first marriage was really ever talked about.

I had an aunt that asked me to see what I could find on her mothers first marriage because it was a part of her life that we knew little about and I did but many years of brick walls till I talked to Pat... Look forward to hearing back from you on the Fields family in that cemetery...

I have a photo of Eddy Fields grave I took in 2000 is this one of the Fields you are referring to she is buried in the Cawthorn Cemetery that I am referring to that includes Cal Cawthorn and his 2 wives.

I also have a copy photo of George Milton Fields that was given to me by Sherry Cawthorn. It reads he is buried in the Fields Cemetery on Subtle Rd. Not sure if this is the Milton you are referring to. His daughter is Bessie Fields Woods. I also have an old copy photo of the Fields family that Sherry gave me a copy of as well..

RE: Cawthorn Cemetery
Gosh I am terrible on the location but I do know from a family member that took us there that is was the old Cawthorn homeplace John Calvin Cawthorn/Cawthron/Cawthon (so many spellings) which was my grandma's father in law from her marriage to Herman who died 1924 and was only 21 yrs old when he died.

I do remember going past some trailers and down a hill to an open field and the cemetery was to the right a little and the old house sit to the left of the road. There were several graves there and some had been moved to another cemetery from down there. I am sure it is Subtle but I just can't say for sure but will look more in my notes and get back with you.

Herman had one full sister Minnie who married Lon Froedge and they moved to ILL and lived there for years.

John Calvin married 1st to Amanda Jane Garmon and had 9 children Amanda died 1899 and then he married Mollie Stilts and they had 2 children one being Herman and the other being Minnie.

John Calvin is buried in between both of his wives and Mollie's grave was in bad shape and the cemetery was mowed but her's was not. I heard some stories about her and I don't think the family cared for Mollie much could be why her grave is in the condition it was in.
