RE: Thomas Marks ... cont.
Hi Mark,
Just wondering if you had seen all the documents on Fold3 about Thomas Marks. It's worth the free signup. Last page (of 29!) looks like it says he was buried in the NC Soldier's Cemetery in New Bern. (State Cemetery rather than National?) I'll see if the library has anything on that.
Death date is definitely Mar 20, 1865. Says he was 47. Tells what wounds he died of, name of the hospital, etc.
Talked to the overseer of National Cemetery in New Bern and the cemetery wasn't even authorized until 1867.Your thoughts?
Here is a link

RE: Thomas Marks ... cont.
Just did another Ancestry search for Thomas and got this find a grave listing.
I didn't check on the rest of the info on him that has been posted previously but it looks promising to me.
Hadn't seen it before. I was thinking this is the area he was originally from. Is that right?
Check out memorial #22066949 and let me know what you think.

Thanks for the info on the Russell's... I've updated their memorials and transferred them to you, in case you think of anything else that could be added. Also, I have a number of Russell's, Lowder's, Hearne's, Smith's, and Williams memorials in NC - please let me know if you would like any of them.

I am so sorry but it was a mistake on my part for William Dewey Odom. I have him now and I guess I sent a message to you by mistake. My apologies. Thanks!

DeBerry graves at Zion Methodist Church
Hello Mike,

I added photos for the three DeBerry family members interred at Zion Methodist Church: Bettie Barringer DeBerry, Edmund DeBerry Jr., and Pattie Barringer DeBerry. The church has done a wonderful job over the last year in cleaning the stones. They are not damaged (I have seen some marble stones that have been pressure washed...not pretty!), and are much easier to read and photograph. I love the stone for Bettie DeBerry.

Best wishes, Dottie

You are so welcome! It was a great afternoon… I found some of my own family too! I wish the markers had been more readable.. I should have taken a brush or paper for a rubbing. Take care! Dana

Joshua B. Hearn
Hi Mike,
Thank you for contacting me re: Joshua B. Hearn. I have connected him to his parents with the #s you provided.
I do not seem to be able to delete the photo of the text with misinformation in it. Of the pair who posted it, one of them has passed, but the other seems to have made a verbal commitment to keep up the work. I don't know anything more than that.

Thanks for the contact. Chris

HAHA I realize you get my "double word meaning", but I SWEAR there IS a PERSON IN MILFORD ODD that has that EXACT NAME!! Ask Pam, I fell out when I saw it on a stone......don't know if I posted it yet, couldn't stop laughing..."think" its a safe bet I would NEVER have married someone with that name!!
Oh, geez, related to Pam? No wonder..twisted runs in the family!!

Sherlocks Cousin
RE: Sallie Jane Forrest Dick
LOL on the tag you're it thing! I love it when I get to search. I thought the same thing about Billy Forrest on her death cert possibly being her grandfather - oh YUCK that's a HORRIBLE thought if her grandfather was really her father!

Another piece of the puzzle - When daughter Eunice married R.G. Hudson, guess what? Give up? OK OK...I'll tell you...... Her mother was listed as Sally Forrest!!!!! There is 1 missing link but still no father.

When other daughter married S R Lowder, mother Sallie's last name was Dick.

Thos Marks
Hi, I am a volunteer in the Hampton National Cemetery adding memorials and pictures to the 30,000 plus graves there. I am planning a visit to New Bern this Fall and noticed your request for a photo of Thos Marks grave, but the volunteer could not find the grave. I believe he is not buried there. his internment record shows the following remark, "CSA Exhumed and reinterred in Cedar Grove Cem New Bern NC." He is not listed in Find A Grave for that cemetery, but that cemetery has not been fully photographed and I will bet he will be found there. If you would like the internment form I can forward it to you if you provide an email address. If you find him, please have his memorial removed from the National Cemetery. Hope this helps, Rodney.

RE: Carter Family Cemetery
I pulled up the Google map and you can see the cemetery between the two mobile homes. If no one does your request I might be able to get down there this month.

I noticed that you requested a photo of Mary Hartsell's tombstone. It is on the opposite side of her husbands tombstone, Joshua Hartsell. You will have to receive permission to use the photo though.

Old Center Cemetery

Hello there Mike....I hope you are doing well. I recently took photos at Old Center Baptist Church Cemetery in Candor, Montgomery County NC.

If you can, will you please add coordinates for a map..

N. 35.268589
W. -79.712345

Also, I was wondering if we need the list of burials since there is a complete list for the cemetery now..there were quite a few errors in the list, and other burials not on the list.

Hope your "tree" is growing well!!

Best wishes, Dottie Wilkie
