Mendenhall Record
I just love your source for deaths and births for Martha, Isaac, etc. What is the source from? I am looking for the title. Where did you find the record?

RE: George Vinal
You are so welcome. It was my pleasure. It took me a while to locate him and Elizabeth because the section he is in is so overgrown. But now that the weather has changed, I was able to hunt and locate it. I am glad you are happy. I will now, try to locate the Blessington family and Mena Vinal. They are across from George. Have a great evening.

RE: Samuel Swaine
A few years back I had looked at Samuel B.Swaine Find-A-Grave #50837771 in the same cemetery as Samuel R. Swaine. at that time I could not find any connection between the Swains and the Swaines.

The person that did the page had him buried in New Albany cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana, instead of Albany Rural cemetery in Menands, New york, finally got that straightened out.

The Samuel Swain I was looking for ended up being buried in Economy cemetery in Economy, Indiana.

Interesting. My 'Valentine' family came to America in 1857 on the ship 'Angela Brewer' and arrived in New York on June 11, 1857.
They settled briefly in Ashland, Pennsylvania, before moving west to Minnesota.
So their is always a chance that someone stayed in Pennsylvania.

When they arrived the Surname was spelled 'Valentini' they changed the spelling to 'Valentine'.

My 3rd GGP Were Samuel B. Swain and Elizabeth Barnard. Elizabeth Barnard traces back to the Nantucket 'Barnards', so I also have 'Barnard' lineage.

Wow!!! Always interesting to find Swain decedents.

Got your message, I have added the inscription to the photo caption information.

I have also added a link to the Nantucket Historical Association to the bio information.

You are the 3rd contact in a week I have had with 'Swain' decedents, the 'Swain' family is a very large tent.

Richard Swain was my 9th GGF on my mothers side.

Yes that is her. I will be sending an edit to link her to her husband and for her birth year of 1860.

RE: Edward & Mary Roberts
Hi L.,
If you want to transfer my great-great-grandparents (Edward and Mary Roberts) to me, that is fine. My number is as follows: #48624649.

I just recently found this site and I am excited to find all the tombstone photos. I used to go grave hopping. But with my disability and now being required to use a wheeled walker, my grave hopping days are over. So this site is a gold mine for me.

Mary's Tombstone
Hi L Evans,

Thanks for putting on Mary's page about her birth date and wrong date on tombstone. I must have misstated something... what I meant was when I went to the cemetery in 2002, there was no tombstone, not that there were no dates on the tombstone. Would you like me to email you Mary's marriage license to William Thomas?

Mark S. Price.

Grandfather's Tombstone
L. Evans,

You have a grave marker on my grandfather's page that does not belong there. I put a photo of the correct tombstone.

RE: Recent Edits
I have Mary's marriage license to William Thomas, which lists her birthdate and place. i also have her death certificate, which lists her deathdate and place. The birth year on her tombstone is inaccurate. I'm not sure what family member had the stone placed on her grave. But it was not there in 2002 when I personally visited the cemetery.

RE: Eleanor Cole Rafferty
I also took a photo of this stone and it did look like a 5 in my photo, which is why I entered the edit, but I didn't bother to keep any photos that were duplicates of memorials already entered, so unfortunately, I can't post it. If she died in 1906, there would be a death certificate for her, so that should settle it. If there is a death certificate, it is 1906, if there isn't, it is 1905.

RE: Elizabeth Wickersham
Computer crashes are such a pain. Thanks for the link; I'll read it to refresh my memory on calendar changes and bookmark it, so i can look it up once in a while.

If her birth date is different, would you please let me know?
Thanks for the help

The Old Gregorian (Julian) calendar and the Friends calendar are not the same, which is why I get confused. The Hurfords were Quakers, which is why dates are written 25 10M (M stands for month) 1740. So I Googled it and there is a great chart on So the 10M is Dec. Their dating system was changed after 1 Jan, 1753. I book marked the page ,so I can look it up the next time.
