RE: Lena McMeans
I updated my pg for her with what I could find at quick glance. Appears she was married 3 times. I don't know the marriage date for the Lawrence man. I also don't know where the first husband is located, but think he's the one in California as his birth date and place match up. Also there is an obit for a son that Lena & first Davis husband had together naming them as parents ... but it was a private burial and I have no idea where they put him. Oh so many loose ends .....

RE: Audrey Tezel
Glad I could help and thank you for posting the obit.

Hi Laura,

Oh no, I hope that I didn't offend you. I think what you've been doing at Zion is great! You've done the hard work of being out in the elements taking photos and getting them uploaded. Also, you have done a great job in doing the links/edits. Yea, I am related to a great many at Zion. The patriarch of my Steubing branch here in Texas, Heinrich Steubing, is buried there with lots of his descendents, direct and collateral. Heinrich Steubing is my great, great great grandfather.

Also, my great, great grandparents, Georg and Katherine (Steubing) Reininger are buried there, along with some of their descendents, direct and collateral.

There are more of 'my folks' at Zion and I've been to their funerals throughout the years. I have an emotional connection to Zion. I'm sure you do also given all of the dedicated work you done for that cemetery and the memorial pages here on Find A Grave.

I've been sending the duplicates in and having their pages merged. It is a slow system but it works very well. I assumed you were doing the same and if you are not sure how to do it I can explain. Maybe with the two of us dividing up the names, the duplicates can be weeded out.

Sweeping all emotion out of all of this, in my opinion, if anybody should be the caretaker of the majority of the memorial pages at either or both Zions it should be YOU. You are the 'boots on the ground' and have access to their records. That is something that neither Deb or I can provide.

If I've offended you--please, please accept my apology. I have great respect for the work that you've done there.

The document below was dated September 26, 1930 NOT 1900 as I wrote. Sorry.

Milton Steubing's Mother Part Deux
On file in the Bexar County Clerk's office, Book 1213, Page 268, Item 345430 is an affadavit concerning "Estate of William Boerner, Deceased"
titled "Proof of Heirship" brought by "Emma Boerner, et al" dated September 26, 1900.

William Boerner was Norma's father and Emma Boerner was Norma's mother.

The part of the document that will show Norma Boerner is Milton Steubing's mother is quoted below.

"...that in addition to the above named children four other children were born of said marriage, each of whom died in infancy, and Norma B. Steubing, wife of Herman Steubing, of Bexar County, Texas; that said Norma B. Steubing departed this life about 35 years ago intestate, leaving one child named Milton Steubing, of Bexar County, Texas, aged 37, and her said husband, surviving her:..."

Hope this helps you in deciding Milton Steubing's mother. I thought working out the dates of marriage, birth, death, marriage pretty convincing. But the heirship document convinced me with little doubt as to his mother's identity.

The "Proof of Heirship" affidavits are fairly common and are usually pretty interesting to read. I frequently use them in my genealogy research.

Please let me know if you need or want anything else. Happy to help.

Milton Steubing's Mother
Hi Laura,

Hermann Steubing and Norma Boerner got a license to marry on March 24, 1889 in Bexar County. They were married on March 27, 1889 by W. Krapf, Minister of the Gospel. The two witnesses were W.H. Braun and Charles Weyel.

Hermann Steubing and Cecillia Zellenwitz got a license to marry on June 16, 1900 in Bexar County. They were married on June 21, 1900 by Conrad B Gohdess (sp?), Pastor, St John's Ev. Luth. Church. The two witnesses were Alfred Braun and Tillie Boerner. Tillie Boerner was Norma Boerner's sister.

Milton Steubing was born on April 18, 1893. So his birth is during Hermann and Norma's marriage. Norma died July 29, 1897.

Putting this on a timeline:

March 24, 1889
Hermann & Norma get marriage license

March 27, 1889
Herman & Norma marry

April 18, 1893
Milton Steubing born

July 29, 1897
Norma Boerner Steubing dies

June 15-16, 1900
Census enumeration date for Herman & Milton

June 16, 1900
Hermann & Cecillia get marriage license

June 21, 1900
Hermann & Cecillia marry

Cecillia is the spelling used on the marriage license and is the spelling I used here.

I will put further info in another note.

I see your msg about the Steubing name on JoAnn's board......

Milton's father Hermann Steubing was married twice (confirmed by marriage records and per 1910 census where he says he's in his 2nd marriage) see my entry for the father Hermann Steubing # 7307609.
Therefore the first wife Norma was his mother, not Cecillia.

RE: Zion cemeteries
Certainly no offense taken here. You've done nothing offensive. You appear to be attempting to do you "job" and maintain the memorials appropriately.

I believe that the person CW2 who took over the original CW memorials was also just trying to help. She hated to see so many names just sitting there not being worked, so she asked Administration to oversee them, however not being a contributor herself she had no real idea what all was involved. She told me she works 3 jobs and has school and no time for Find A Grave.

I believe the cemeteries were just "over promised" and since she didn't know how Find A Grave works she had no idea how to handle it except to transfer as best she could .. a few here and there, unless she "owned" the entire cemetery, then it was easier to get Find A Grave to transfer those. By the time names were transferred to so many various people she didn't know what she still had, or where, but I believe she "thought" she may have already transferred many, when in fact some had not been. That's how I came to have the names I have (the most recent ones from her account), like these in the Zion cemeteries. I too was told most cemeteries had already been promised out BUT if I found others to let her know and she'd see about getting them to me ... well I did. Thing is according to her Find A Grave would not transfer and her suggestion to me was to contact Find A Grave myself about them. That's what I did.

As a result (as best I can tell) I've apparently received the "leftovers" in Texas cemeteries that were not already given to other contributors. As they say "Beggars Can't Be Choosers" ... I took what was given to me.

I actually don't have "that" many names in either of the Zion cemeteries I don't think. I am just one of several who has been given maintenance within.

As stated before to either you or JoAnn, I'm agreeable to "working with" either of, or both of you. If you gals have info, updates, links, etc, etc, by all means send it!! (my only request is to please, make sure the info is documented and verifiable)

Also, if you have duplications and you don't know how to handle them, make a list (the url links to BOTH memorials; original and dup) send them to me in an email, and I'll have them fixed for you. HOWEVER, if the names and data on EACH memorial does not match 100%, they will NOT merge it! The memorials MUST match, period.

I took my email address off the board - too much spam, but if you want to contact me off the board, you can do so at this address:

Laura I would like for you to transfer Lillie's original memorial to me. I must not have caught that there was one already for her. I will delete mine after I am sure everything that connects gets to the original. Lillie is my sister-in-law. I have visited your church many times when I come to visit her, Janice and Mary. I was there for the wedding of Kristen.
