Hi Val,

It appears we are kindred spirits of sorts. I too am retired from the US Navy, have an infinity for veteran's grave markers, love the peace and quiet of walking old cemeteries, and enjoy transcribing inscriptions in old and new stones before they wear away and become unreadable - capturing a piece of history before it is lost forever.

I have noticed that the memorials for service members interned at Togus National Cemetery are very scant and incomplete. I will be submitting edit suggestions for each memorial as I go along. I just wanted to drop you a note to thank you for your service to our country and community as a veteran and volunteer for Find A Grave.

Thank you so much for transferring my grandparents to me; my first! I appreciate the amazing work you do; you have photographed so many of my family members, I so appreciate it. Take care, Terri

I recently received an email to update a individual. I did this, but would like to know if you are related to this man?

Do you have Halligan in your Tree

Hi Val,

We found one LOVELACE marker at Verona today;
Jeremiah, his wife and daughter. His memorial number is 135580235 and the family is linked.
Feel free to holler if he's connected and you'd like me to transfer the memorial.

Tim & Grace

Hi Val,

I don't think I want to join the Findagrave Police and spend all my time searching for dupes that other people have made.

I don't download cemetery listings and run special computer programs to add memorials to findagrave. All 10,000+ memorials I have were entered manually by me by hand on the keyboard from research I have done since 1984.

Sometimes I am made aware of duplicates I have made (sometimes the computer "stutters" and make 2 or 3 dupes upon initial creation on bad internet days... like yesterday). Sometimes others let me know about dupes made of mine.

I could waste a whole bunch of time trying to get the duplicate Whales Back Cemetery taken care of, but then someone else could create another duplicate of the same cemetery in a year or so. It is futile. There is no stopping ENTROPY :(

Sincerely, Tim

Whales Back Cemetery AKA Estes Cemetery in Woodstock Maine

Hi Val,

I just became aware of the duplicate Whales back Cemetery in Woodstock, Maine. It is unfortunate that all these old cemeteries in Maine are known by so many different names. This cemetery is also known as Gore Cemetery.

I tried to get findagrave to MERGE Estes Cemetery and Whales Back Cemetery back in 2009, but I guess they never got around to it. I had dozens of cemeteries back then that I tried to get

map links and Aliases added to... but it became a case of "too hard to do" and I finally had to throw up my hands and admit defeat.

So... as far as DUPLICATES go... we probably just have to give up there and admit defeat as well. :(

Sincerely, Tim

Considering all of the information I have provided for you and the concerted effort I have made to unsuccessfully find this gravesite for you, would you consider removing your request for photo from the Arkona Cemetery on Find_A_Grave? If not, do you have any suggestions of what I can do next to help you?

Val, I just posted a photo I found of her tombstone which was easier to read. I don't know when it was taken. The stone may have been cleaned since yours was taken. I've also updated her information which you should receive soon. Thanks so much for all you do... Bob

RE: Thompson Watt
This morning I photographed 109 gravestones in a Mennonite Cemetery for the Canada Cemetery Project and downloaded them onto my computer. I have to re-size them and send them on the CanGenWeb so I want to tidy up outstanding photos I have taken for "Requests For Photos" first so I can get at these other pictures. I know that these individual requests mean a great deal to people so want to give them my undivided attention so I can complete what I have photographed for Arkona Cemetery first and foremost. Best of luck with this. If and when I find Alexander Watt, I'll post the memorial and photo and transfer it to you.

I'm not certain if the one is 89 years or 99 years. Look very closely at the photo and you decide. I went with 99.

This memorial was posted by someone named Wilton Golson and he has not left an e-mail address or any place to leave a message except on the Edit form for Find_A_Grave. I am always suspicious of people who want to severely restrict access. I mean, really. It's only the Find_A_Grave website.

I have the photos and a going to post them. I have no interest in copyright or ownership. They are yours and you can do whatever you want with them.

In response to your request for a photo of this gravestone from Arkona Cemetery, using the cemetery index, all I could find were the gravestones of Lovica Watt (a native of New York State and wife of Thompson Watt) died October 26, 1856, age 43 years) and Margaret A. Watt (another wife of Thompson Watt) who died November 18, 1877, 89 years, 3 months and 6 days. There is no sign of a gravestone for Thompson Watt at that location. The Arkona Cemetery Index does not list a Thompson Watt. There is an Alexander Watt, whose location I have yet to find.

Your thoughts on this. I can post these and then transfer management of them to you if you prefer.

Please let me know.

RE: 111527932 Edit
That would be my fault, I must have stuck it in the wrong place as I for sure intended on it being in other info.

I should have looked over it first.

Val, I continue to be indebted to you for photographing my family (so many of them), I wanted to ask if you would be interested in additional details, ie. Dates of birth, dates of death, spouses, children, etc. I am happy to provide them to you however I do not wish to inundate you, let me know and I am happy to do so and again, thank you for your extraordinary work!

Ok that makes more sense. I was wondering why my GG grandfather and Mother on the paternal side were 90 years older than my GG grand father and mother on the maternal side. Could you tell me where you found that info. I am very new to this and would like to fill in some of the gaps in my mom's book. My brother found the site and was looking at my father's side. It is incredible what you can find. I am definitely going to have to set a timer because I will spend way too much time here. Have a great day.
