The photo I would appreciate permission to use is of the gravestone for Peter Gainey, a soldier in the 8th SC Infantry (top image on the page).
My book is a history and roster of the 8th South Carolina Volunteer Infantry, Kershaw's Brigade, C.S.A. It will be published by Broadfoot Publishing Company, Wilmington, NC, as part of the South Carolina Regimental/Roster Set(see http://www.broadfootpublishing.com/scroster.html).
I'll be happy to credit you for the image in the manner you prefer.

You had written the following message to my extended cousin. Have you gotten the info you need ?
I have Ruth Hale for his mother. I have Caleb, Elizabeth, Sarah, Viola, Margerate, John, Nancy, Martha and Wiley as his brother and sisters. I'm I wrong on that. I need to get my tree right. Tazewell has given me a fit I could only find bits and peaces about him. Never found out if he married or anything about him. Did he move out of Virginia?

Thank you for the information and getting me straight on the section, row and grave number protocol. I also appreciate knowing the veterans are buried there three to a grave. Do you know if they are in caskets individually or just direct burial side by side?

Thanks so much for adding the information. The only Civil War records records I have are the ones from ancestry.com. I have him on my "Archives" list for the next time I get to Raleigh.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, we have a small group working on some of the cemeteries to submit corrections for misspelled names, duplicates, etc. and the new edit system works so much faster than the old "submit and wait forever"!

I have put everything I found out about Thomas on his memorial (87531220) page. He had a daughter named Sallie, who filed for a pension. I am still researching deeper. I will keep you aprised of any changes. When I am in DC next month, I will go to the National Archives and get his service record. Thanks for the transfer!

Oddly, my last message is blank? Let me try again. Hello Mike. I grabbed your photo request for Dreutler at Richmond National. You also asked about a Domer? (These names soldiers who died at Belle Isle Prison are buried one per a grave, and Domer has his own gravestone elsewhere.) Would you like to request Domer as well? Rich.

Well... the sun is never perfect in the winter... only in the autumn late-afternoon does the natural sun break across the faces, which highlights the carving nicely. The rest of the year, I bend the light with a mirror. I posted a picture HERE for you to see how I do it. Takes only a minute, makes the photo SO much more readable, like THIS.

Hello Mike. I have editorial control of all memorials at Richmond National, so I added "8A" to Waid's memorial for us, I'll grab a photo while I'm there. And you're right, the index says "Winfree" for your photo request for the Alonzo Winfield memorial (also the index says born 1896 not 1892) so we'll see... I can repair it easy enough, depending on what I find. Any more pix you want while I'm down there, likely tomorrow, let me know. Rich.

Mike,for additions or corrections please use edit button at top right,not message board. It's easier that way. I see where the unit ID problem is. The 25th Va.Cav.Regt. was nor organized until July 8, 1864. At this time Milton was a POW. He served in 27th Va.Cav.Battalion,one of the units merged to form 25th Cav.Regt. Obviously he was not aware of the new designation,being a POW. He stated unit as 27th Va. Cav. Battn. Due to clerical error it was assumed 27th Inf.Regt.

|CHS||RE: Frederick R. Merrydew|
I have been doing some research on Merrydew, Merridew, Meridew, Merridue and it is very confusing as there are different spellings for them. I found Frederick MERIDEW and Martha MERRYDUE'S obits in the RTD and both died in Richmond, VA. Martha was born in Richmond and Frederick was either born in England or Richmond from different family trees. There are two other memorials with different spellings for Frederick and Martha # 99664084 and 99824441. Hope this helps. Cynthia
