I notice you have left flowers on her memorial and address her as Aunt Imogene. Was wondering if you have researched her mother's side of the family. More specifically reasearch on the Richardson family.

Granddaughter of Earl Richarson

James Cate (Cates) Lewisville and Denton
I have an old Colt Revolver that has documented Cates family history.

The Colt Revolver was in the Cates family from about early 1879 until John C. Cates of Pagosa Springs, CO sold it in 1985. In a letter I have signed by John C Cates in 1985, he references several generations of history as follows:

Floyd S Cates - first to have the Colt in 1879, - John Floyd Cates - his son, next to get the Colt,Roy S Cates (John F Cates son), next to get the Colt in about 1916 John C Cates - youngest son of Roy, next to get the Colt, about 1960.

John C Cates says that his father Roy settled in Mills, NM...and I see where John f Cates died there in 1944 and Roy Died there in I believe that I have the right family here. My research has John Floyd Cates father noted as James Alonzo Cate (aka Cates) , which is a contradiction to the letter I have (he was referred to as Floyd)...but very plausible as people often went by knicknames or other.

Do you know if James Alonzo Cate was aka Floyd?

Can you help me out with some more Cates family history, and locations in texas? How about copies of some old pictures?

The family indeed looks like they had a very "colorful" past with claims of this Colt being involved in several killings. I would be happy to send you pictures and copies of the letter, and pictures of the Colt.

I hope to hear from you or others. M Henneberry. email me

I had requested a photo of the grave for John Butler. The volunteer was unable to find the grave. Do you happen to have some information that will help him find this grave. He is willing to go back if I can find out more info. Thanks!

Hi, went ahead and linked parents to him, and then made the transfer. I also believe in connecting family, no matter how close or how far apart the link may be.

I have linked Imogene Greenwood to her parents as requested. Will transfer her memorial if you would like. I think family should manage family memorials. Send me an email if you would like a transfer. Regards, Mary

Re: Mem. # 71350203
My great grandfather is David Louis Adams born around 1855-1858 20 miles NE of Tupelo Miss. David had a son named William Wesley Adams who is my Grandfather. I was looking at the above memorial and noticed his Fathers name was David Wesley Adams that was from Miss. I am trying to figure out if this Adams connects to my David Louis. My David Louis married a Tennie Reese in Williamson Co Tex in 1885 he died in 1906 and is buried in the Val Verde Cem in Milam Co. Tex. You can look on his grave in Milam Co it gives his history would love to see if this connects to your Adams Clan.
Thanks Gayla Atkinson

Walter & Susie Haney

Thanks you fro your note about Walter & Susie Harris. The memorials I created for Walter & Susie were as you can see based on the photo posted of the double marker they have at Grove Hill. Sometimes I have run across markers in cemeteries that have a birth date but no death date. Research has proven in those cases that the people sometimes ended up being buried elsewhere. (The markers were sometimes set many years beforehand with the plan they were to be buried there but were not.) However, this marker at Grove Hill has death dates that were put on the markers, which usually means that is where they were finally laid to rest. That being said, another possibility considering what the death certificates state about being buried in Forney, is that after the certificate was filled out, the burial place was changed or more likely, the remains were moved to Grove Hill after the Forney burial as per family requests. I've run across both these situations more than once in several Dallas area cemeteries.

I found the death certificate you mentioned for Susie. I could not find the one for Walter. Regardless, what you should probably do, is call Grove Hill (The phone number is on the findagrave cemetery page) to confirm whether they have the record of burial or not. That would affirm just exactly whether or not they are in fact at that location as the marker would in itself indicate by the mere fact someone was sent out there to put the death dates on that marker at some point in time. (The cemetery of course would actually have the burial date).

So, until otherwise presented with some evidence that they were indeed buried in Forney, the existence of the tangible marker at Grove Hill will have to take precedence over the death certificate for where I have the memorials placed, for as I explained the death certificates are not always completely accurate in that regard as to where the burials finally ended up. Hope you understand my position.

At the same time, I will try to follow up with Grove Hill also to see if they can confirm a burial.

Thanks, hope that helps!
