HENRY & CHARLOTTE (?) FRITH
Henry & Charlotte Frith came to Claiborne Co., TN from Virginia, sometime before the 1840 Census. They continue to appear on the census through 1880 except for 1870, when I cannot find them anywhere. They MAY have been from Lee Co., VA, but that is yet to be determined. Have not found a marriage record.

Drury Frith joined them by 1840, when he married Sarah Elizabeth Willis, 09 Oct 1840, Claiborne Co., TN. Surely he was Henry's brother, but I lack proof. Drury died between 1860 & 1870, because his wife, Elizabeth and her daughters moved to Josh Bell Co., KY (later renamed Bell Co., KY).

Henry & Charlotte had a large family, but there doesn't seem to be much information out there on them. Based on the census, their children were:

Charity, b ca 1837, VA. Single 1880 Claiborne Co., TN, with parents.

Nancy, b ca 1839, VA. m Charles I. Sulfridge, 03 Sep 1864, Claiborne Co., TN

Elizabeth, b ca 1843, Claiborne Co., TN. m Thomas J. Goins (record reads Gain), 25 July 1868, Claiborne Co., TN

Narcissa, b ca 1845, Claiborne Co., TN. Single 1880 Claiborne Co., TN, with parents.

Drury, b ca 1847, Claiborne Co., TN

Charlotte, b ca 1849, Claiborne Co., TN

Mary, b ca 1851, Claiborne Co., TN

Hugh William or William Hugh, b ca 1853, Claiborne Co., TN, m Susan Rose, 07 Mar 1877, Claiborne Co., TN.
Did he m (2) Molly Hendricks, 12 Mar 1887, Claiborne Co., TN?

Harriet, b ca 1855, Claiborne Co., TN

Henry, b ca 1857, Claiborne Co., TN

William & Susan were on the 1880 Claiborne Census, #264, and Henry & Charlotte were #262.
Not tracked thereafter.

This should give you a good start to further research.

Just a note, these are not my people. My "possible/probable" Frith connection goes back to before 1712-14, VA, when Rebecca Frith married William Eddings (Edens). I can't prove my own connection, yet I got caught up in Frith research. Just a genealogy junkie.

Frith Family Tree
John
Thank you for the contact. I too have been looking for my Great Great Grandfather. I think you may have helped me find him. I kept running across the family with Hugh W. Frith & wondered if his middle name was William. This is the only Frith family that seems to fit the ones that I have been desperatly trying to find. Do you belong to Ancestory.com? I have a tree started there. My Grandfather Lee Frith was born in Caliborne Co. Tenn. My GR. Grandfather William Frith (according to the census was also born in Claiborne Co. Tenn and his parents were from Virginia, and The Henry Frith family were the only ones who fit, but I wasn't sure of Hugh's middle name. So this would make Hugh William Frith my gr.Grandfather & Henry my Gr.Gr. Grandfather. This is so exciting. Do you know what Elizabeth's married name was? I can't seem to locate them after 1880 either, I think Henry & Charlotte must have passed away sometime before 1890. The problem with the 1890 census was the records have been extracted from the remaining population schedules for the 1890 Federal Census, which was destroyed by a fire at the Commerce Department in Washington, DC on 10 January 1921. The surviving fragments consists of 1,233 pages or pieces, including enumerations for Alabama, the District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, South Dakota, and Texas. The records of only 6,160 of the 62,979,766 people enumerated survived the fire. So, where they were in the 1890 census, we'll never know. If you could give me Elizabeth's married name i will look in the 1900 census to see if I can locate her and let you know. Thank You for your help, now I can move farther back, hopefully.
