RE: Amick Grave Stones
You are welcome. I think they just don't want to be bothered at the office there. There are probably over 100,000 graves there. Biggest cemetery I have ever seen.

Bovette B. Bishop & others
Hi, Chuck - I think I DID look for Bovette some time ago, with no luck. Will take another more intensive look later this month when the weather cools a bit now that I have other names to help me & let you know if any luck. If I DO find them, will gladly take & post photos.

Best,

Greg F.

Helen Root photo.
Hello again, Chuck! This is just to let you know that the groundskeeper has uncovered Helen's marker and raised it back up to the surface. I have added new photos. I think it would be nice to leave the "before" photo on the memorial, but if you want me to remove it, let me know.

Best regards,
B.J.

RE: Helen Root photo request.
Yes, it makes perfect sense. I will ask them to uncover Helen's marker, as it is obviously overgrown by the sod. It usually takes anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks. This cemetery has over 300,000 burials and is about 360 acres. They have a great ground crew, but sometimes they are very busy so this doesn't take priority.

I will let you know when it has been done, and will post a new photo.

Best regards,
B.J.

Helen Root photo request.
There is no marker. I checked the area around the monument very carefully. The marker for Edna does not have any other markers next to it. Helen may be buried next to her, but you should contact the office to find out for sure. There is also an unmarked spot next to her parents; she may be there. I am including a photo of each spot and when you find out which grave is hers, let me know and I will delete the photo that does not apply.

Sorry this was not a more positive outcome.

Best regards,
B.J.

RE: Helen Emily Root
Yes you can use my photo. But maybe I missed Helen when I was photographing that section of the cemetery. Why don't you also put in a photo request and see if someone can get the photo of Helen's grave for you?

RE: Edward Chisholm
Chuck - You're quite welcome. Actually not cabin fever, had to go up to the Sears Outlet in Elgin to purchase a new refrigerator! Bluff City is about three blocks off the route. I love working that cemetery, lots of interesting stories.
I think you're correct about the re-internment. The listing for internment date is 5 May 1906 for Robert, Sarah VanValkenburg, William W., Grace E., Edward J., Olive Edith, Cora Mae. Sarah Jane is listed as 20 April 1905, so she was probably the first at Bluff City, since lot owners were already notified to move remains out of Channing St., and the last burial at Channing St. was in 1906.
BTW, why were they all dying out in Montana and California?
There's some other Chisholms listed there. Any relation?
I assume you live down in Will County - good luck with the snow today!!

Edward Chisholm
Chuck - Here's the photo of Edward Chisholm's stone. The top reads 'Baby', and the front has indecipherable inscription, worn away & covered w/ moss. I was able to make out July and 1871, so I know it's him.
Strange, the family didn't inscribe any other names on the large stone except Robert and Sara.

Chisholms in Bluff City Cemetery
I'll be heading out to Bluff City as soon as the weather warms up & I get the chance. Section 11 is one of the sections I was already planning to go to. I did not claim the photos because of the Find A Grave policy of a 14 day period to get the photos and that would't happen. So, keep an eye out in the next few months.

There sure could have been a typo in the list I used. I'll be glad to transfer her and her husband to you if they're your family...

Edward Sproat
I received your message regarding linking Ted Sproat and his parents. It's done. If Ted is a family member I can transfer his memorial. I am a Gillett descendent and that is why I have him. Just let me know.
Kindest regards,
Brenda

Thank you for the information and pictures. I did adjust them. I am not related to Willard. I do have family in this cemetery so my wife and I took pictures of the entire cemetery and posted them so other researchers could see them.

RE: Luke Nichols Steele
Chuck-
Yes! And Ive started school so now it's madness

Ok- I was lucky with prairie vine which is probably why I took it on as my first full cemetery... I got the entire burial records from rootsweb, it is still active... In other words I can tell you who is going to be buried in the empty plots.

There were 2 or 3 very simple, possibly cement, crosses outside of the marked burial area. There were no named to match these crosses. I had assumed try we're much newer than 1888... But that doesn't mean the body they marked wasn't 1888....

Getting to my point. No Luke Nichols Steele in tr records. 3 other steele's you probably already saw. But, there must be someone still running this cemetery. Try local funeral homes and see if there is a sales office? Did not appear to be owned by a church.... If not, there is another cemetery in morocco just a few miles.... Errr... I'm thinking south on 41. Also very old.... Wondering if he could be there? I have no records on that one, nor have I ever stopped there.

Hope something helps. If he is one of the unmarked crosses, I will happily revisit and photograph it. Keep me updated. It's quite a story. That poor horse! Your poor uncle!
