I wish a headstone survived. :( This is my husband's 8th-great grandfather, so you must be related.

RE: Sophia Roemmich
I just looked at her Memorial Page and I think you are 100% correct.
How nice to finally have this one fufilled....no matter how it happened.
Boy did I look and look for this one. Not only is this my parents hometown but I had a kid that worked for me that was a Roemmich. In fact she lived in Oakes her first four years or so. So as you can imagine I always came away very disappointed when I couldn't find Sophia.
So, again, how cool that we finally did it!!

Thanks for the update. Next time I see Peggy I'll tell her what happened.

RE: Oakes View Cemetery
You are very welcome.
Oakes View is very special to me. I have a lot of family buried there as Oakes was both of my parents hometown.
In fact, the Akers were the first family I have ever fufilled for. Merle was my Great Uncle. His sister, Bernice, was my Grandma B.
His sister, Lucille, married a Buske.....I thought they might be Clifford's parents but they're not.
Still I fulfilled for a few other family members, including my Great Grandmother Mathilda Johnson, making this a very, very special trip to Oakes (THE greatest small town in the world).

Thanks again for the requests.

You are very welcome! I'm sure you were disappointed with the results. Really hoped to find stones with information about these folks. We were there on Sunday and the cemetery office was closed. If you would want to call them and ask what records they might have the # is 307-754-5220.I think they are a friendly bunch and might give you something further! I hope so! Good Luck, Christy

RE: Gibbs in Mountain View
You're welcome, Carolyn, it was my pleasure. Yes, you can use my photos. Thanks for asking. BTW, do you know if there is a connection between the Gibbs family and a little boy Troy Douglas Wilson (1963-1965)? He's in #3 in the same lot with Charles (the one that died in 2003) in #4, and Caroline and Darrel in 5 & 6. Lucy and then the other Charles are in the adjacent lot, right next to Darrel. The spaces on the other side of Troy appear to be empty. It just got my attention that all these Gibbses were buried right together with a Wilson child. Just curious. None of my business, just curious. (-: Take care, Amy

RE: Northwood Cemetery
Hi Carolyn,

Northwood is a fairly large cemetery near me, and it's not in a really nice neighborhood (which is probably why there aren't many volunteers). People generally frown upon me being there to take pictures, and even though I'm volunteering, it's looked down upon. The legal issue of cemetery photography is a murky one, and it's one I've laid to rest for a while.
Also, being a large cemetery, most of the requests don't even have section names, making it nearly impossible to find a record (the proverbial "needle in a haystack". It's tough to walk by a tombstone, look up a name in the app or program, check each one and move on. That could take years to work on.
I'm still willing to help out, but a lot of the time, I'd need more information to do so. Simply saying that someone may have a grave site at the cemetery is not enough info for me to proceed. Plus, the cemetery office may look down upon me taking pictures (as I've encountered other offices that are very unhelpful and downright rude when stating my reasons for asking).
I'd like to head back there and help out at some point, but many other commitments have taken up much of my time at the moment.
Thank you for reaching out, though. It's appreciated.
Steve

Please undo the link of Leona (Harlan) Pargin to George W. Harlan. That this the incorrect GWH. Her father was a George W. Harlan but born October 11, 1859 in Hardin County, Iowa. I do not find that GWH in Find A Grave, so can't give you the correct memorial #. Steve

RE: Hill's
Hi Carolyn,

It was an amazing coincidence that you requested photo of Daniel Hill the day we were hunting for him. He is my great, great, great, great grandfather. Are we related? You asked if there were any other Hills. Yes, his son John. I just posted the picture tonight. I have also located his grandson Nehemiah in Ontario.I've requested a photo. I'm hunting for his son Daniel Hill (1793- ABT 1865-71) so I can connect them.

I discovered a great book about this family if you're interested. Its hard to find, entitled Descendants of Daniel Hill and Elizabeth Holmes from Maine New Brunswick and Westward. So well researched. Its amazing.

Best wishes,
Linda
