RE: Stony Point, continued
So ordinarily how do you go about fulfilling a request--do you contact the cemetery admin. to learn the location of the grave or what?

Also, I am almost next door to the Grinter Cemetery and I see that only about 35% of the graves are in Findagrave. I guess I will just take a row of photos then come back and look up each name to see if there is already a memorial. I have read the helpful tips but don't find that problem addressed, unless I overlooked it. Any suggestions you have will be appreciated.

I will take over the problem ones. I do have time and need to acquaint myself with the museum so that would be a nice motivator!
Thanks for your feedback. I want to make my contribution as meaningful as I can!

Hi Kent
I am new to Findagrave volunteering and I live right down the road from Stony Point. I will be glad to work on any photo requests for it since I am this close.

RE: Thanks for the Slanker photos
Your're welcome, shame David's is getting hard to ready. I spoke with Mrs. Friend who has the record's of all the burial's in the cemetery and she did confirm Caterine is unmarked.

. . . no problem! That happens to me sometimes, too.

Take care,

Unmarked graves.
Hello to you back there in Kansas! I noticed your message to Finders Keepers and just wanted you to know that according to the FAQs, you can fulfill a photo request with a photo of the area. Here is a quote found under "Help with Find A Grave"

"What if there is no headstone?
Some people fulfill the photo request with photographs of the area where the individual was buried. In the photo's description, please indicate that there is no head stone and give specifics as to where the the grave is - such as right next to the headstone for someone else or to the left of the tree...

Some people further enhance the photograph by:
-Placing one of the following to mark the grave location - flowers, flag, or DAR emblem
-Photographing the area and adding a graphical outline to the photograph to show exactly where the grave is located.
-Do not use computer generated markers.
-Do not post a graphic stating "no gravestone" or similar language."

I always photograph the area and let the requester know what happened. At least they have a chance to see where the grave is. I have always been thanked for it. It is also helpful for others viewing the memorial, so that other family members don't try to request a headstone photo again in the future.

Best regards,
Bonnie

Thank you. I think it has been a long time, as well. I'll leave the request out there if you don't mind. Thanks for all your help.

When you have an opportunity, would you check on this one again? If it has not been installed, I'll delete the request. Thanks for your persistence.

Hi Kent. I was visiting Find A Grave, and when I logged in your message came up. I just want to make sure I let you know how much it meant to me for you and others to provide this information. I had looked for her for years. Eternal thanks.. Carolyn (her "half" niece").

Thank you kind sir.

It was fortunate timing.

If I didn't have to work, I'd travel in the fall to take lots of colorful shots for many others!

Your suggestion to retake the photo when the military marker has been installed is fine with me. I really appreciate you pursuing this for me. Thanks for everything.

RE: Carr and Hilliards at Stony Point
Thank you for your help on this.

I think Mr. Underwood would be glad to talk with you. He seemed very knowledgeable and was very nice.

I will admit I got a little confused and may not have understood everything correctly. It's hard when you have never seen the cemetery.

I believe he said he thought there were names on all four sides of the obelisk, but maybe they are too faded to read. He also said there were burials around the obelisk, but they may not have markers.

Again, thanks for whatever you can do.

Carr and Hilliards at Stony Point
Sorry to be so long getting back to you - family intervened. I have talked with Dale Underwood (913-721-3908)and got the following information. Clyde Carr is buried in Lot 111A (Annex) next to his wife Mary who died in 2010. The base has been set for Clyde's military marker, but the military marker has not been installed.

There is a 6' tall white marble obelisk for the Hilliard family. I believe he said the stones for James and Laura Hilliard are to the north of the obelisk.

Rose and Manford Hilliard are also located in the annex (to the north) in Lot 108A.

I hope I have correct information. I had made so many notes that I got myself confused. If you can find these markers, I would like to have photos. If not, please let me know and I will delete the requests.

Thanks for your help.
