Mullins Cemetery
I noticed you are the one who took the photo for the Mullins Cemetery. You helped me in the past with a person in Cochran Cemetery ( not sure if you remember). John F Roberts ( my great great uncle). I am trying to find out what happened to my great great grandmother's grave, Mary Ellen Hammons Roberts, who was mother to John F Roberts. She was buried by the Williams River my grandmother told me of her grandmother, and was not sure her body was still in that location. and then I heard that the graves in Mullins Cemetery may have been moved or worse maybe plowed through. She died around 1930.She was married to Jessie Roberts who is buried in Cochran cemetery. Is there anything else available to verify if she might be in this cemetery? If you cannot help that is fine but if you get a chance could you tell me if you are aware of anything that will lead me to the answer?

Thank you so much,
Cheryl Rogers

I feel sure that George "Chap" Woodrum is buried somewhere around Cold Harbor or in Richmond's Hollywood Cemetery. I would love to find his grave. I have Col. George Edgar's own eye witness account of Chap's defence of the flag at Cold Harbor and how he died defending his "Sweetheart" as he called the flag. The unit lost its colors there that day. My great greatgrandfather was captured there that day. This battle was a total confederate victory but this sector was briefly overrun by the federals. I created a memorial for Col. George Edgar you can find it in Paris Kentucky, Bourbon County,

Per your request, I have linked Grover Cleveland Carpenter Sr. and his wife, Myrtle Irene Frederick Carpenter. What, if any, is your relationship to these folks?

RE: Mtn View Cem. & Burns family
Just received the following message, so moved Joseph Hamilton "Ham" Burns' memorial to Mountain View: "I have the Mountain View Cemetery book. Joseph H. Burns 1882-1942, Section 1, Grave Row 9, Stone #12, next to Minnie H. Burns, Stone #11. You will need to contact Find a Grave and explain he was added to the wrong cemetery and they will transfer him to Mountain View. Sandra King"

"Ham" Burns
Ham's first wife, Minnie (Hiner) Burns died in 1930 and was buried in Highland County. She was later moved to Mountain View (see her memorial in Find A Grave.) One of their daughters, Katheryn (Burns) Wooddell, is also buried at Mountain View. So I suspect he was also buried there. Good luck with your phone calls this week. And happy Mother's Day! Steve

"Ham" Burns
Thanks for your prompt and helpful reply. I did not add that cemetery but did notice the different (incorrect?) spelling. I found Ham's death certificate at the WV web site and it listed Marlinton as the burial location. When I found Marlin[g]ton Cemetery at Find A Grave, I just figured that was it, not being familiar with Pocahontas County cemeteries. But it sounds like he might be buried in one of the others. I can move his memorial if he is in fact buried in a different cemetery. Thanks for your help. Steve

RE: directions to the Kerr-Nottingham Cemetery???
Hello Watoga,
I honestly have never physically visited the Kerr-Nottingham but had planned to someday in the future to visit some cemeteries in WV. I currently live in Wichita, KS. I added the entries from an online listing. The directions on the website is as followed:

Directions: The Kerr-Nottingham Cemetery that is just off the Greenbank Road on
Saulsbury Run (sometimes called Salisbury Run) at Boyer, WV. Going north at Boyer,
WV, on Rt. 28/92, turn right onto Howard Heavner Road, then right onto Greenbank
Road (I believe it is also called CR4), go about 1/4 mile, turn left onto an unmarked dirt
road, proceed 100 yards. You can see it from Saulsbury Run Road, but there is no
entrance there. Greenbank Quadrangle.

Condition: Fenced, well maintained. Repairs have been made on some stones, and
additional ground-level brass markers have been placed on some stones that are
becoming unreadable.

I'm sorry to say I am unable to provide a GPS location. Good Luck.

Take care

RE: Message
I did check out your message to Millie, and left her a note as well, but I am sorry to hear of your loss of Robert "Bob". I am related to some Shafers too, this fellow might even be a relative. Millie knows alot about the Roberts/ Hammons families, which is how I am related to the Shafers. Is this your relative then? Deaths around Christmas are even more so emotional, because our sensibilities are so vulnerable then. I will keep you in my prayers!

Millie Hammonds Stinnett

Over the years I have not been able to locate a cemetery in Pocahontas Co where I was told several Mullens/ins-Hammon(d)s-Roberts were buried. I found a few clues but then cannot locate the cemetery(s):The Meadows Cemetery - Mullens Cemetery (they may be the same cemeteries or known by a completely different name. The area would be Woodrow, Edray Dist of Pocahontas Co. Woodrow appears to sit at the junction of Woodrow Rd & Williams River Road on the edge of Handley Wildlife Management are. Burials at Woodrow are:

1)Lottie Margaret Hammons b. 1-25-1867 d. 2-2-1937 buried The Meadows(widow of Paris Hammons and d/o Cornelious Roberts Nancy Hammons Roberts)
2)Amanda Hammons b.ca1891 d. 12-25-1938 buried Meadows Cemetery (she d/o of Paris & Lottie Roberts Hammons and wife of Millard Hammons)
3)Sarah Jane McCombs b. 8-4-1887 d. 2-17-1943 buried Mullens Cemetery (d/o "Nige" Cogar & Dicy Hammons Cogar wife of John Davis McCombs)
4) Estel Riddle b.ca1895 d. 8-1-1943 buried Mullens Cemetery
(s/o Christopher Columbus Riddle & Rebecca Cogar Riddle/he never married)
Most of these family members are buried in the Cochran Cemetery.
If anyone can help in any way - please let me know.

Mary Johnson
You left me a message concerning Mary Johnson.. I went to the memorial and now I'm confused. I think I will need your help on this one. I have Mary Frances Gum Johnson as the name but in the obits, she is referred to as Mabel! Now is she, Mary or Mabel... that is the question and I can't do any checks at this time. I won't be coming to Pocahontas Co. until Memorial day of next year, so if you can help me out, I would appreciate it, otherwise, I'll have to try and remember to check this out next year. Merry Christmas to you and yours. Thanks for your help....... judykay
