RE: Combs
Sondra, have you checked out the memorial,
104363766? The information on it was sent to me by an Archdale family member. I think it might help some? I'm getting confused too. But if I'm not mistaken there were 3 Johns. Possibly 4? The 104365443 has the same info you have just sent to me. Only, you have this John, married to Hannah Ann 'Mason.' ??????? We will get this figured out, I have sent some emails to the Combs family and then will check again w/some others. What I copied was from some of the records and Bible information my Aunt and Uncle collected? We will get it straightened out hopefully. :)

RE: Line of John Combs
Here's the main problem with Archdale. There are two births out: 1) 1625, in Virginia, and 2) 651 in England. In Virginia, the father will be "Jamestown John", b. 1589(?), and mother is either Margaret Archdale (1590, Yorkshire), or Elizabeth Willis (1590, London). For England, he was born to Elizabeth Lovett, and John of London, a brother of
Jamestown John"(?). As of this point in time, thee is no solid evidence that England Archdale ever came to the Colonies. We know for sure that an Archdale was here. so he has to belong to some one. I lean toward 1625.
Archdale was also a brother of the two Johns, born in 1606, He died around 1634, and never left England. "Jamestown John" arrived in 1619 on the Marigold, was indentured for 5 years. Once that time was up, he is listed as a planter (part-time farmer). It is said he sent for hid bride (which eve one it is), and paid for her to come over to Virginia, using money from tobacco.
Of Archdale's two sons, I go through John, and 1662 sounds about right. Of the "eight" brothers, John, Jr ("Soldier John"),then Jeremiah "Long Jerry, William Lorenzo, Spencer P., Robert, and Maurice (my father).
NOTE: I am not a genealogist, just an amateur. However, I will be glad to share what I've learned. Be very aware that so many sites are out there, and they input bad info. Reason: they borrow from other inputs.
Hope this helps. If I can be of some help, just let me know.

Ron

Barfield Family Cemetery Kershaw County
Hi Sondra,

Just wanted to thank you for all you are doing. Wanted to clarify the cemetery you have on here. At the Camden Archives this cemetery is named as the Cook-Barfield Baptist Family Cemetary and also there is two different cemeteries side by side. They are quite out in the middle of no where in Kershaw County SC. Most of the Barfield families are buried on one side and the Gregory's and Banks, Matthews etc. on the other. I see you have Ruby Lee Gregory as being on the Barfield side but she is part of the Cook cemetary. This cemetary has been in our family for many many years and just wanted to let you know.

Thanks,
Cindy

Sondra,

I'm afraid that I don't know the parents of John Clifton. Are you descended from him?

Mt Zion Baptist Church Cemetery
Hi, I saw a photo request come up for this church, but I can't find it on a map. The only two churches by that name in Kershaw County SC (that I can find) are both brick (and only one has a cemetery that I can see). I was hoping you could tell me where it is, since you posted a photo of the cemetery.
Thanks,
Mark

Sallie Nettles 62788678
I got the following correction from another member:

This is not the correct headstone for Sallie Nettles. She was single (never married). She lived with her sister Jaime Rush Nettles Bateman for more than 20 years. It states on her death certificate that she was about 40 years old when she died. I attached a copy of the death certificate to this site.

I beleive he is right so please remove the picture you added to this memorial. Thanks!

Charles Strong
Hi, Sondra

Just to follow up on your reported problem finding this gravesite, I went through all three volumes of the "Kerhaw County South Carolina Cemetery Survey" at the Kershaw County Archives in Camden. There is no record of Charles Strong in any of the indexes, or in the list of soldiers killed at Camden. There may be a record of him somewhere, but I couldn't find one.
