RE: Frances Mae Shepherd
Cheri - I don't know if you saw my other response. It was sent from my home email, so it may have gone into your spam folder or something.

Frances Mae was married to my uncle, John Shepherd. John was my father's brother.

My siblings and I had the opportunity to visit Frances Mae's gravesite over Memorial Day weekend. We visit Hillcrest cemetery every year, as my paternal grandparents are buried there, as well as our Uncle John.

Growing up, we didn't know anything about Frances Mae, and her child with John, Johnny. We met Johnny a few times in the late 1990's, and early in the 2000's, before he passed away. When we finally learned about Frances Mae, we learned that she was the true love of John's life, and he was heartbroken when she died, and as a result he had a difficult relationship with his son, Johnny until late in both of their lives.

We know that Frances Mae passed away a day after Johnny was born, but we don't know much more than that.

If you have more family history you can share, I'd really appreciate hearing it. If you have any questions that I can answer, I'll be happy to share what I know.

Thanks...I look forward to hearing from you.

RE: Frances Mae Shepherd
Cherie - sorry for not replying sooner. My email address has changed and I haven't updated my profile yet. My address is

Frances Mae Shepherd was married to my uncle, John W. Shepherd, who is also buried at Hillcrest Cemetery, as you may know. John was my father's brother.

My siblings and I were in La Grande over Memorial Day (we go each year), and had a chance to visit your aunt's grave.

Do you know much of your aunt's family history? I know that John and Frances Mae had a child, Johnny (my cousin), and Frances Mae died a day after Johnny was born. We really don't know a lot more than that.

My siblings and I didn't know about Johnny until 4 or 5 years before he died. Fortunately we had a chance to meet him a few times. What we've been told is that our uncle was heartbroken when Frances Mae died, to the point that he didn't have any relationship with son because he was such a hard reminder of Frances Mae's death. It's a hard thing to understand, as our uncle (as we knew him) was a very kind and caring man. John and Johnny did have more of a relationship later on in their lives.

I don't know who raised Johnny - that's a bit of a mystery for us.

If you have any family history you can share with me, it would be much appreciated. If you have any history you're curious about that I may be able to answer, just let me know.

I look forward to hearing from you!
