Old Waco
Martin Cemetery in Upson County, Ga.
Hi,
I saw one of your photos on a memorial at the cemetery. Do you have any general photos of the cemetery you might submit as "cemetery photos?" I think the more the better.
My Martins and Howells are at the cemetery.
Thanks,
TB Willis

Re: 34402407 John R. Shockley
I believe that this is a GRANDSON of Leonard Shockley. The father would have been John R. Shockley [Sr.] and mother Sarilla Smith. By 1860 John [Sr.] and Sarilla were in Alabama: 1860 Census Place: Western Division, Tallapoosa, Alabama; Roll M653_25; Page: 330. In 1860 John [Jr.] and Catherine were in Barnesville, Pike County, Georgia: 1860 Census Place: Barnesville, Pike, Georgia; Roll: M653_134; Page: 132

RE: John Austin Kelly
I'm sorry but I don't know if John divorced his first wife. I think it was common for couples not to go through the legal process, in that time period. The only way to know for sure would be to search for divorce proceedings around that time period.

RE: John Austin Kelly
The marriage record for William and Caroline (Upson County, GA Marriages Book A 1825-1858, page 67) gives her maiden name as Martin. Death certificates can often times be wrong for various reasons. They might have gotten the name or other info second hand or might be mourning the loss to the point of reporting something they would normally know is wrong, if not under stress. In this case they were mixed up for some unknown reason. There are Boyts in the Kelly line, but not in the case of Caroline. The Kelly family crosses into my McRae and McFarlin lines and that is why I know what I do know about them. I would be glad to share anything you might need to know, if I know the answer myself.

Hi Paula,

I just transferred the memorial. Yes....I've been to the Thomaston-Upson archives but mainly have talked to Claude Burgess there. He showed me a lot of stuff relating to the five victims of the fire and I have shared a lot of my research with him but didn't go too far into siblings of the families of the victims.

Would love to hear anything you have though.

Annie Torbert
Hi CaliPeach,

I've updated Annie Torbert's information. As you might know I'm working on a book about the victims of the Winecoff Hotel fire in which one of Annie's daughter's Virginia was a victim. I've talked to Virginia's sister Barbara and her grandaughter Beth Kriebel about Virginia. Would you happen to know where Virginia siblings are interred? Maybe in Southview Cemetery where Virginia is? Through researching the victims I've found out where most are interred and even have posted memorials for the parents and siblings. If you would like I can transfer Annie to you. Virginia's memorial is owned by another person.

Thanks so much.

Joseph Wheeless
Links have been made to Joseph Wheeless. If you are related, I will gladly transferred this to you. Just make the request on Find A Grave. I entered this from an obituary I found in my husband's grandfather's belongings.

Perdue & Perdue
Cali,

Thanks for transferring the records for Antioch Baptist Church #1. However, there are still 2 remaining on the Antioch Baptist Church records that need to be transferred: Frank Howe Perdue & Lennie. S. Perdue. They are already listed on the ABC#1 records, however there are not pictures of their markers. If you will transfer yours, I will delete the duplicate once your transfer has been made. Thanks so much for your help in getting this corrected.

cemetery records for antioch baptist church
Cali,

All names listed under Antioch Baptist Church should be transferred to Antioch Baptist Church #1. There are two churches located on the Yatesville-Barnesville Road - Yatesville, GA. I am and have been a member of Antioch for many, many years, so please transfer this information to the correct church.

Thanks!!!!!!

Perdue Cem. Search Continues
I was speaking with Grady this morning and we thought of the Barron -Perdue Cemetery. You may already know if it but if not we thought we would suggest it as the possible answer. I will keep searching and please let me know if there is anything I can do.

Perdue Cemetery Search
So far I have not been able to locate the Perdue Cemetery, however; Grady has a few "unknown" cemeteries in his book. Do you know the general location of the Cemetery? If so, I can search his maps and see if one of the unknowns is in the general location.

RE: Kelly family at Martin Cemetery
You are welcome. Sorry that the info on headstones was not easier to read, but the passing of time has a way of changing things. Sorry that I could not locate Wesley Kelly's grave.

Ida Kelly
I was able to find the obituary of Ida Kelly in the 1910 newspaper. I wanted to ask you first however, before I posted it due to the explanation of her death in the article. If you would like I would be more than happy to email it to you so that you can have it and so that you can decide if you think it is o.k. to post. Or I do not mind to post it to let you decide then either. I will be happy to do not either one. I am so glad to transfer Wesley's memorial to you as well. I am so happy that they are now safe with you. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.
