Amos Sprout & John Riddle

I just wanted to tell you that I really like what you are doing for the Riddle family. Very little is known about my distant uncle, Amos Sprout, who died in Alexander Village, Genesee, NY in 1813. But a professional genealogist found out when he died, and also that he was a friend of John Riddle. If you have any personal information about John I would sure appreciate knowing it.

Keep up the good work!

Reminder for Clara Riedell
Can you please call the cemetery and obtain the grave location (Section & Lot numbers) and ask them whether or not there is a grave marker?

Forest Home Cemetery: 708-366-1900 or 773-287-0772

This cemetery will not assist photo volunteers with finding the grave's location and the Find A Grave FAQs (Help File) states it is the photo requestors job to provide this information.

Thank you! Ace

Hi! Can you please call the cemetery and obtain the grave location (Section & Lot numbers) and ask them whether or not there is a grave marker? Please post this information to the memorial or send it to me.

Forest Home is a huge cemetery with well over 70,000 burials, and the information is needed in order to find someone there. I go here regularly, and since August I have found over 150 graves at Forest Home that had the location information provided. Thank you! Ace

Kittie Allen

Each time I go to Black Mountain City Cemetery I look for a gravestone for Kittie Allen and have not found one. However, I recently found Kathrine Allen buried at Allen Cemetery which is on Barnardsville Highway, just past Black Mountain Missionary Baptist Church. Kathrine is the wife of William M Allen (1878 - 1943) and daughter of William Riddle. I am sure this is the Kittie Allen for whom you have requested a photo.

Gary Dillingham created a memorial page for her on Sep 1, 2009 and the number is 41426545.

Margaret Prince created the memorial page for Kittie Allen on Jun 26, 2011. I will let her know about Kathrine Allen, 41426545 and see if she agrees that her page for Kittie is a duplicate for Kathrine.

Forest Lawn West photo requests
Hi, I have made several attempts to find the grave for your photo request at Forest Lawn West. The office no longer gives out locations to photo volunteers, and this cemetery has easily over 25,000 graves. Although I do often find graves by hiking around randomly, finding one grave is like finding a needle in a haystack. Please call the office (704-392-2104) for a grave location and email me directly and I will be very happy to go get the photo. Thanks!

The Lady in Black
Re: Clayton Riedel @ Mt. Carmel in Wyandotte
I cancelled your photo request for his memorial because it was a duplicate. I created the three Riedel memorials at Mt. Carmel (there are no others--I've spent three years walking the cemetery, taking photos, and creating records); Clayton, and his parents, Louis & Mary, and have asked the other contributor to remove hers, as dupes are not allowed. I am also in the process of cleaning up the database as best as I possibly can, because it is a real mess.

Are you related to these Riedels, and if so, would you like a transfer? The only thing I do not allow (and it is my prerogative) is that my photos not be used elsewhere on the web. Read my profile page for details.

If you agree, then let me know.

Elmer Riddle photo , etc.
I found Elmer Red Riddle's burial marker. I was about to give up and something told me to check a group of stones whose family headstone was so obstructed by shrubbery that I could not read it.

There I saw a Riddle marker! I went to the other side and there was Elmer Riddle's resting place.

Also, there were several other Riddles there and I photographed them, and will add them if you would like. I'm sure they will fit in your family tree!

You story is amazing and moving. I feel the same way about preserving the memory of those who have passed before us.

That is what keeps me walking through some pretty interesting sites, looking for their burial sites.

The other Riddles buried with Elmer in that plot are: George H Riddle 1870-1976; Mary Eliza Riddle 1865-193; Roxanna Riddle 1861-1934; Elizabeth Riddle 1872-1897, wife of Albert James Riddle; Dicie A. Riddle 1875-1952, wife of James D. Goina; James D. Goins 1868-1980; Mary [looks like Newnam 187-1940, wife of George H. Riddle.

Hopefully, some of these will be family members you would like to have for your tree. Some of these stones are quite covered with lichen, however, I do not clean them, but they are legible if I zoom in on the picture.

Take care and good luck as you continue your search for more of your family members. Genealogy is the most rewarding thing I have ever been involved in.

Richard S. Barzelogna
Shelton Bristol Barber
This was Shelton Barber's obituary. He was a life member of VFW Post 5213 and a good friend.

Daytona Beach, Florida
Friday, June 11, 1999

Bunnell - Shelton B. Barber, retired Flagler County clerk of the circuit court and former mayor of Bunnell, died Thursday at Memorial Hospital-Flagler. He was 76.

Barber, of North Anderson Street, was born in Bunnell and lived his entire life within a four block radius of the Flagler County Courthouse. A staunch Democrat, he served as Bunnell's mayor and a municipal judge in the 10 years before his six-term, 24 year position as Flagler County's top clerk. He retired in 1992.

Colleagues remember Barber's upstanding character.

"I have known Shelton since I was a very little girl. I stayed at his house with his daughter, Flagler County Tax Collector Suzette Pellicer said Thursday. "Very few people stay so upbeat and pleasant through everything. I will miss Shelton."

County Commissioner John Seay, who served as Property Appraiser at the same time Barber was clerk of the court, said Thursday that Barber "was an outstanding citizen and a good public official" who "is going to be missed by a lot of people, especially those who knew him well."

Barber graduated from Bunnell High School in 1942, and then served in World War II as a Marine Corps sergeant in the Pacific Islands Campaign.

His community endeavors after the war included service in numerous area organizations. He was past treasurer of the Flagler County Council on Aging, former Flagler County Recruitment Chairman for the East Volusia-Flagler County American Red Cross Blood Donor Program, past president of the Bunnell Lions Club and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5213, of which he was serving as chaplain.

He also had served on the Governor's Commission on Criminal Justice, Standards and Goals and on the boards of directors of the United Way and the Tri County Health Board.

Barber combined his enjoyment of sports with his humanitarian endeavors. The U.S. Passport Bureau honored him for excellence with the Special Olympics Program. He also coached Little League Baseball and softball for eight years.

Other organizations of which he was a member include the Afro-American Heritage Association, African-American Cultural Society, Flagler County Art League and Flagler County Audubon Society. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Bunnell.

Phyllis, his wife of 48 years, died in 1998. Survivors include two sons, Garrie, Bunnell, and Michael, Abilene, Texas; a daughter, Kathleen Dever, New Smyrna Beach; a sister, Annabelle Barber, Bunnell; and seven grandchildren.

Volusia County Cremation, Daytona Beach, is in charge."

I hope this is helpful with fleshing out the memorial that you made for him.

John Ridel, Bedford,NH
I have uploaded a couple of pictures for the John Ridel memorial page, although it is unsure if the stone shown is the correct one, but since there are no other options, I felt it was time to have the photo request removed. Between Amy and I, we have done our best to track it down. No other volunteer will be able to find it, if we didn't!
Best Regards,

I'm sorry the marker isn't in better condition. I could not get a hold of anyone to ask if I could come back with some cleaning material (soft bristle brush) to clear the marker. I want to see about using paper and chalk to get a rubbing.
