Hello, my extended family owns the land holding this grave site. I just posted a photo of the only headstone, but it looks like 6 or more people are buried here according to this website. I'm doing some digging to see when the land on Possum Trot Road was sold to my family because we are not descended from the Fleeners. I believe it was bought by my father's mother's brother, Charles Dungan. Thanks for all your research!

Thank you Frank for your help. It was great to finally be able to pass that info to my husband's family. Yes, you may pass her & Jacob on to me if you want. Thanks again,

Hi Frank, you have done a fine job of researching your family & helping others. Good job!
I was wondering if you have a picture of Jacob's wife Margaret Wheat Pennycuff headstone. They should be resting together. This is my husbands maternal grandparents. I thought it odd that no one in the family has any birth or death info. Any help you can give is very much appreciated.
Thanks so much,

Your first note fits what I have gathered best. The one that has is name Madison Lake. That war was awful. I agree about disease and contagion too. Do keep me posted. BSL

My records show that Martha Adeline Merriman Lake Reeder Ritter 1837-1918 Find A Grave Memorial #102186462 was married three times. I have researched for sometime to locate what happened to her first husband, Madison Lake 1825-1865 (?). His death undoubtedly was associated with the Civil War. BUT, I can find him nowhere. Are you a descendant of Martha Adeline Merriman? Do you know anything about her first husband Madison Lake? Their three children were William Buckhannon Lake 1858-__, James M Lake 1860-1922 and Amanda Lake 1862-1918. Her third husband is father-in-law of a 2nd great-uncle of mine, Anatole Basil Routier (1841 - 1912). It is one of those rabbit holes I get caught in doing ancestor chasing.

I was looking up my grandparents on this site and noticed that only two of their children were listed but my mother Virginia Ruth (Merriman) Hacker was not. Is this something that you can add? I am new to this whole site and process ☺

I will keep looking for TN records.
I am particularly interested in your book by Mertens. The Indiana State Library sent me 4 pages from that book regarding Jesse Merryman. How did you find a copy? Do you have it digitized?
I am also looking for information on Charles Allen Merryman, born c. 1810 Cumberland county, VA. He may be the son Pleasant Merryman and Susanna, who later married John Hill Merryman and moved to TN. Charles A. may also be the unamed son you mentioned of Francis and Martha. He married in Cumberland and remained there. Do you know of him?

Your memorials for Francis Merryman and Thomas Merryman have wonderful information. Thomas Sr. is the brother of Jesse Merryman my GGGG grandfather.
I am looking for the parents of John Hill Merryman. He may be the son of either Francis or his brother Thomas Jr. John H. married Susanna the widow of Jesse's son Pleasant Merryman in Cumberland county, VA 1819. Some think they moved to Tennessee. Since Francis and family moved there, perhaps John H. and Susanna did also. Do you know of them?

|S. Sullivan||RE: Emery & Elizabeth Sullivan|
Oh, yes, you have been very helpful! But I believe Elizabeth was alive until around 1960. My dad got a call from Hershel (those calls were rare) and he asked if my dad knew his mother had passed and that was sometime after my parents had moved to Greenwood which was around 1960. Also, I have found her in the 1940 census living with her son, Harold McCorkle. Emery and Elizabeth divorced between 1900 and 1910 and she had a son, Harold with James McCorkle. Emery married someone named Zula. I saw where Emery says he is a widowed on the census, but I think maybe he didn't want to say divorced or maybe it was his second wife that died, but I think they also divorced because I believe she later remarried. I will have to double check my records and order some divorce records.
I know Hershel was living with his grandparents in the 1910 census. I never could find Elizabeth in that year though so Myrtle may have been with her at that time. Thanks so much for all your help! I will write to John and look up the prison records as well and see if it's the same Hershel.

Hi, I just noticed this weekend that you make mention of a John Penrose in Noble Penrose's memorial. My father is his first cousin. He is the son of Hershel Sullivan, brother of Myrtle Irene Sullivan Penrose. I have had trouble researching Emery & Elizabeth as they seem to have moved around a lot and got divorced/separated and then got back together a few times. Plus my father's father, Hershel, abandoned the family when my dad was only about six. Is John Penrose still living and if so would he be interested in communicating with me? I have been able to trace the Sullivans through NC and MD and back to the south Ireland in the late 1600's. But I would still like to know more about Emery & Elizabeth, when and where they died, where they are buried and why they had such a tumultuous relationship. Appreciate any light you can shed on this subject.

Long time...I'm going thru my database and trying to find first names where I only have a last name.
Do you know what happened to Lucinda Fleener Hendrickson? Or Rosannah Fleener Gilmore McClung?
Hope the summer is a good one. I tried to find some people in our local catholic cemetery and figured I had better have a friend help me. I have absolutely no sense of direction. It doesn't help to have a map.

I wish I knew who that Rebecca Jane Barnett Fleener belonged to. My father-in-law was born in French Lick, Orange County,Indiana.
His great grandfather Rev John Cornelius Barnett was born in 1857 in Washington County,Indiana. Rebecca was a lot older than him.
John's parents were born in Kentucky though. Rebecca Jane might been from a distant relative to them somehow.
I am related to the Blanche Chitwood that married Rebecca and Michael Fleener's grandson James McClary. My 3rd great grandmother Sarah who I told you was a twin To Joel Mccoy married Andrew Chitwood and their daughter Alcy Chitwood Kent was my 2nd great grandmother. Blanche being their granddaughter.
I have all kinds of connections to my Taylor, Chitwood, McCoy and etc to the Fleeners.

I do have lots of Fleeners in my line . Samuel's mother Nancy McLary/Mcclary had a sister Sarah who was married to my 3rd great grandmother's twin brother Joel McCoy. There are other coonections to Nancy's family. I have been trying really hard to find out where the mother of Mary Ann (Robbins) Fleener is buried. Susanna Grace (Taylor). She was the sister of my 2nd great grandmother from another family line. She was married three times and her last husband was Joseph McClung. I am not having any luck fining her.

Please, it is never a bother! I am retired and have plenty of time. I checked my books for Johnson County, and did not find her at any of the Johnson County cemeteries. I guess you would have to have a better idea of when she died to get an obituary. Is it a family story that she was brought back here for burial, and not in Florida where she died?. I will keep searching.

|Dennis Harmsen||RE: Reeve memorials|
Thanks for the note. Thought I knew all the Harmsens around the country, but maybe her name will come to me. We knew the Reeses had passed and would have created their memorials last year, but we took some need time off. Was surprised to see their memorials created. Thank you for that and for the transfers and will see just where they may be buried, if not cremated.
