George Barber
Gerry Bertier photo request
The picture is already in his findagrave memorial at Mt Comfort Cemetery along with a picture of him hanging out a school bus window. Was there some other reason for a need of a marker photo?

RE: Request for Photo of Martha Martin tombstone
I have exchanged emails with "Joanna", the creator of Martha's F.A.G. memorial, and she believes she read in the Martin family papers at the Lyon County Historical Society of Martha Martin's interment in Chicago Mound Cemetery. "Joanna" is going to try and find her notes pertaining to Martha's interment, until then "Joanna" is going to list Martha's burial as unknown. If Martha is interred in Chicago Mound, and she could be since records that early in the county's history are poor, the grave is unmarked now. If something develops that leads to another location, I'd be happy to explore and walk the location to see if a stone can be found.

Request for Photo of Martha Martin tombstone
Hi,
I'm afraid that a marker for Martha Martin's grave in the Chicago Mound Cemetery, located southeast of Emporia, KS does not, or no longer exists.
Her name does not appear on the list of interment's in Chicago Mound. Kansas became a territory in 1854 and the nearest town, Emporia, wasn't plotted until 1857.
The following is from the Flint Hills Genealogical Society: "The OGDEN,COOK and OVERLY families homesteaded in the Neosho River Valley, not far from the high mound that some early settler named Chicago Mound. It was on the brow of this hill that the burial ground was started, and took its name from the mound. The first date of a death inscribed on a stone now standing is that of James C., son of Abram and D. B. OVERLY - died September 17, 1861. The second, Orlando G. OGDEN , probably related to Susannah and George ODGEN , died December 11, 1861."
I checked our library in Emporia which has a very good local genealogy selection and could find no record of a Martha Martin but she died before many local records began to be kept.
As a last check, I checked Volume(which covers Chicago Mound)of the Tombstone Inscriptions of Lyon County Cemeteries done by the D.A.R. February 1951. No reference to a Martha Mart=
in was found in the book.
If you have any additional information which might help in establishing the location of Martha Martin in Lyon county or a surrounding county, I'd be happy to attempt to photograph a marker as time permits.

RE: Minnie Wincott
You are very WELCOME. I am Grateful I was able to help.
No other Wincott's are near by but her stone has space on both sides. I have an area pic with her little stone. Do you know IF any other family is with her?
This Cemetery is not very Eager with their records. Probably with individual families but Not in Mass searches for Find A Grave.
I am very new to that cemetery. Minnie's stone being so small I could not guarantee I would find her to keep my in a general location {I have another search I did not find VERY close NE to her} so that led me to take photos of surrounding stones to mark where she was.
These people had Memorials but 2 of them had area pics with no stone on them. They do have stone I just had to dig out the gopher dirt.
Others the spouse had stone pics but the other did not when they were searched for.
So Your Grandmother helped me serve several others in your request. I LOVE that. I thanked her, maybe you could also for me. It makes this all worth it.

YOU are SO WELCOME
THANK YOU
HAVE FUN

Hey, Jill, just thought you should know, I've been trying to email you at your aol address and it comes back saying it can't be delivered. One of my other friends at aol is having the same problem. Anyway, thank you for the great photos you sent me. I really do appreciate you very much. Who is the one with the glowing headstone? Have you taken a picture of that one at night? That might be really interesting and spooky!! Have a great day, Sarah.

Hey, Jill. Thank you so much for the photos of these memorials you took for me. I really appreciate this very much. I was wondering if you could send me through email a copy of the pictures if you didn't mind so I could put it on my family tree. Again, thank you and have a great day! Sarah

Samuel Jeppsons
On the Samuel Jeppsons, I can't remove someone else's photos so I sent that on to the person who left the photo along with your contact info and asked them to move it or contact you if they disagree. I have requested that Cal be linked to his parents. I don't manage either son and I can't add children to parents (as far as I know) so I requested that the manager of the children add parents to them. Hope this helps.

Thank you!
Thank you for the photos from the Deason Cemetery. What a great crape myrtle! Find A Grave photographers are the best!

Was there any legible writing on Annie's grave marker? I couldn't tell from the photo. Thanks ever so much for the transcriptions of the other two.

RE: Cora Lavender
Jill,

There is a better photo on a website called rootsweb.ancestry.com. If you "google" Martin's Prairie Cemetery, it should come up as the first choice. Scroll down to Cora's name and click. It appears that whoever took the picture dusted the marker to bring out the lettering. I was just going to post this photo on the Find A Grave memorial but decided not to due the copyright problems. I went to the cemetery and took the picture.

Martin's Prairie is one of best cared-for and organized cemeteries I have ever seen. It's not very big but the cemetery association does a wonderful job maintaining it.
