Shiloh Cemetery, Washington County, Iowa
Hello Robert
The cemetery stone photo you added to Mary (Sparr) Beanblossom 79310045 memorial in Shiloh Cemetery, Washington County, Iowa.

I was wondering if you would be so kind to add the same photo to Anna Chute 102901512 and George Chute 102901666. As the broken stone in front of Mary Beanblossom stone is their stone.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Samuel Cocklin
Hi Bob

I do hope you are up and doing better, now.

Just wanted you to know that I found what the problem, with burial records on Samuel Cocklin. I had a memorial for in Elm Grove cemetery. Samuel Cocklin 1811-1891 is buried in Shiloh, with Catharine according to the records of Shiloh cemetery, that Sue sent to me. And the Iowa Grave Survery has got it all wrong. I don't know how they had both Samuel and Catharine in Elm Grove. It is Samuel's grandson (Samuel J Cocklin 1874-1947) that is buried in Elm Grove cemetery with his wife, Adda May "Adams" Cocklin 1876-1960. (I didn't know that they were there but got photos today confiming who is buried in Elm Grove).

I have corrcted Samuel's (1811-1891), burial location to Shiloh cemetery. Think you said that there were no other stones around Catharine, so I guess Saumuel never got a headstone.

At least we got it straightened out!!

Have a good night.

Hi Bob

Your Welcome!

I guess maybe just keep an eye out for a stone for Samuel in Elm when you go there. At this point I don't know what cemetery to list his burial in. Maybe the listing at Elm will help!

Hope you had a great 4th of July.

RE: Catharine Cocklin/ Shiloh cemetery
Hi Robert

You must be a saint or at least I think so. I also think it is great to preserve family history. I think it is wonderful what & how you feel abt making family connections.

I have a photo request in Elm Grove for Samuel Cocklin 1811-1891. I am hoping that he is there. Got the info from Iowa Graves Survey.

Samuel's 2nd wife, Catharine is in Shiloh cemetery. The Iowa Graves Survey stated that both Samuel and Catharine were in Elm Grove. Sue sent me the log on Shiloh cemetery and it states that both Cahtarine and Samuel are buried in Shiloh. Just wanted to give you a heads up that if you don't find Samuel in Elm Grove and if there was no stone for him in Shiloh, that maybe he doesn't have a stone. And we really don't know which cemetery he is buried in.

Catharine Cocklin/ Shiloh cemetery
Hi Robert

Thank you so much for the photo and deleting your memorial for Catharine. And being so understanding! I appreciate it.

By any chance are you close to Elm Grove cemetery in Washington, Iowa??

Yes, many of the stones are in disarray. The Iowa Gravestones Project has some good photos by Janet, I think she used chalk, not sure if that is ok for the stones, but the photos are nice.

Thanks for your detective work on the Shiloh cemeteries of Washington County! I have been interested in them also, and wanted to find a way to get it sorted out on FindAGrave. Just wanted to let you know that there is now a listing for the Shiloh cemetery that is south of Washington. Let me know if it looks good to you or if it needs any changes.
I think your listings are all at the Kalona cemetery. I am emailing people about moving their listings to the old cemetery (just the old 1800s ones that are listed in the cemetery book at the historical library). Together we can get it right. Thanks again!

Shiloh Cemetery message
I guess I should have read ALL of my messages before I sent you my email. I appreciate your effort of trying to locate Donald Statton's headstone at Shiloh Cemetery.
You said that you had photographed all the stones at Shiloh. Is there any chance that you found a stone for a Jane (Thorngren) Statton (1926-2004)? She is Donald's spouse, whom I have no burial location for. If you have a photo for her headstone, then maybe that would solve the "mystery" regarding Donald Statton's missing headstone. Since she died before him, maybe there was never any stone placed for him.
If you do have a photo for Jane Statton, I would be happy to add a memorial for her, so that you can receive the photo credit.
If in the future you do visit the other Shiloh Cemeteries in your area, and find Donald (and hopefully Jane as well) I will move Donald's memorial to the appropriate Shiloh Cemetery. Strange how there are multiple cemeteries with the same name, in the same general area. Makes for a lot of confusion I'm sure!
