RE: Frederick Veldhuis
Hello Loki,

I think he is the only Veldhuis on the cemetery. He didn't have children of his own. He married in Portland an widow with children and after her death a divorced woman with children. I'm very interested in him, because we share our first name. His original name is Bernardus Franciscus Veldhuis and he was called Frederik (in the USA Frederick). My grandfather Albertus Franciscus Bartelink was also called Frederik and I'm named after my grandfather. Baptismname Franciscus but named Freddy. We are all named after Frederi(c)ks grandfather Franciscus Veldhuis. It's to long ago, but maybe he was called Frederik too :-).
You're right Veld is Field and huis is house. The name Bartelink derives from a farm in Hertme, municipality of Borne near my hometown Hengelo in the Netherlands. The old -ink is typically for this region in the East of the Netherlands near the german border. It means son/daughter of or part of the family of Barteld.

Frederick Veldhuis
Hallo PDX Loki,

Thank you very much for making a photo of Frederick Veldhuis'tombstone in Portland. As you maybe now, he was the cousin of my grandfather Frederik Bartelink. I hope an american relative visits this site too and has a picture of Frederick Veldhuis.

Regards, Freddy Walhof, Hengelo (Netherlands)
