Vina Thomason
Hi Howard,

I always feel disappointed when there is no stone. Vina's resting place has no stone or marker. But according to the plot map, she is clearly in this spot I marked with a red rose under the oak tree. I wish there had been a stone to photograph for you. If you'd like the plot map, I can email it to you.

Happy Easter,

Howard, Sorry to be so long in getting back with you. As far as the maiden name goes, I copied that info from the Maury County Cemetery book. I'll change it since you informed me her maiden name was Keltner. I am not sure where Fred Hawkins would have gotten his info from.

I recently took some more Holt pictures at Arlington. Hopefully I will be able to get them posted soon.

You mentioned Scotts Mill in your bio. The books I just helped the Museum with has some great photos from the Scott's Mills area. Has a nice history of the area too.

I am really proud of the books. They tell the history of Mt. Pleasant and then all the little communities around it. Plus there is a patriotic section, a school section, sports section, business section, and a section on notables, legends, tall tales, and unsolved mysteries.

We are planning a 3rd volume for next year.

The 2 Volume set is $70 plus shipping and handling.

RE: Emma Elizabeth Chapman Holt

I don't know who is in charge of the memorial at the Court House. I have been up there and copied all the names down. I just helped the Museum here in Mt. Pleasant complete a 2 volume book on the history of Mt. Pleasant. I compiled a list of all the soldiers who have been killed in war from Maury County for the book. I noticed then that J. C. Holt was not on the wall along with many other names.

I would imagine that the directors of the War Memorial Building in Columbia might know.

I have not been researching the Thomason/Chapman line of my family that long. I have been doing Genealogy for over 20 years but only in the last few years started on the Thomason and Chapman lines. I do not have pictures from that line much. I had been meaning to call Cora Faye or someone in that line for awhile just to see what they might have. I am related to Cora Faye and her late husband too. That happens often with many families in Mt. end related to both the husband and wife at times.

I have hundreds of pictures from Arlington Cemetery on my computer and slowly trying to get them all uploaded to Find A Grave and the Maury County Cemetery site, but this computer I am using right now is so slow that it takes so long to upload right now that the process is so slow. I may have some of the Chapman and Holt photos you need and just not run across them yet. If I find them I will get them to you.

You can contact me via e-mail at if you would like and we can discuss the family further.

RE: Emma Elizabeth Chapman Holt
Hello, Sorry to be so long getting back with you. Have been busy on a big project and have not had much time for the computer.

Me and the person who gave me that picture were confused at one time. The picture happens to be of Emma Chapman and her son J.C. but it ended up being another Emma Chapman who happened to have a son named J. C.

The way we finally figured it out is that the J. C. Holt in the picture did not die in the war as J. C. "Dago" Holt, son of Emma Elizabeth Chapman did.

I have removed the picture now.

I am related to Emma Elizabeth Chapman via her parents. I am actually related to both of them. John Chapman is my 2nd Great Uncle and Mary Agness Thomason is my Great Great Aunt, sister of my great-grandmother, Minnie Belle Thomason.

Would love to share information with you. I do not have a photo of George Washington Holt.
