Very Good, Judy!!! Thanks for your efforts. I appreciate your transcription because as you can see, those stones are very difficult to read because of their material and design. I'm going to try to enhance the pics. Wish me luck, lol.

You have posted the wrong photo for Richard V. Olson 1917-1917 in the Swedish Lutheran cemetery. There are two Richards V Olson- one died as a baby and the other as a young adult. Please delete the one.

Judy - Thank you so much for posting this photo. We were down there in May and found someone to move his headstone - I have not been able to make it back there and this just makes my day to see it was done! Hope you have a great Holiday! My gramps John would dress up as Santa for us at Christmas - we miss him very much.

Oops, sorry, I should have sent another note. I deleted mine. Could you enter her maiden name, Sherwood, though? (From her marriage record on MOM to Carl). Again, sorry and thanks.

RE: Maryanna Graczyk #118128679
While meeting a far off - off-shoot cousin of my husband's in Madison Co. Iowa. . .yrs. ago, she was carrying around a can of men's shave creme. This puzzled me and I asked her what she brought it along for. She told me she'd rather show me. She waited until we walked past a rather badly deterioted stone. She cleaned off the stone as best as she could, I can not remember what she used. Anyway, she shakes up her shave creme can and proceeds to spray it onto the stone in sort of a large S. She then took an old credit card and smoothed it all out. Creme fills all the depression. You stand back and wha-la, you can read the inscription.
While this does not work 100% of the time, it has worked most always with me. But some of those lime-stone stones are just to far gone to bring out the inscription.
Now. . .this is frowned upon by some people on the Find A Grave forum site. It is believed that the chemicals in the creme help to further deteriote the stone. Again, I place myself buried for 150 yrs. and someone comes by my marker & can't read it because it is so deteriorated. You go ahead and put whatever you want on my stone to bring out my data. I'd much rather have that then have you walk away and not transcribe & photograph the stone. That would only mean that I am forgotten.

I have a 4" spatula that I bring along to clean off barnacles, & a 3" paint brush to brush everything off. Once I have it cleaned, that is when I apply the shave creme. Wipe the excess creme on the credit card onto the grass before going for a 2nd, 3rd pass on the stone. I always try to get as much of the creme off of the stone as possible.
The spatula, mine is metal and I sharpen it before going out for the day. Not only is it good for cleaning off stones, it's great for uncovering hidden/forgotten footstones. Farthest I've ever had to go looking/digging for one was elbow deep. Thought for sure I was going to fall into the grave itself.
If you ever find this information handy in your own photographing efforts, I hope it puts a smile on your face.
Happy Hunting.
Delila
p.s. Shave 'creme' not shave gel.

RE: Duplicate Photos
I only post duplicate photos which I consider taken at a different angle or in different light. I believe this only adds to the memorial instead of detracting from it.
I transcribe and photograph entire cemetery's in my area and post all to findagrave. Years ago I went out and picked and chose which relatives to photograph. This was very time consuming and an eventual waste of research time. I constantly found myself going back to the same cemetery over and over agian when I found addition people to add to my familytreemaker. It is much easier for me to do entire cemetery's.

RE: Maryanna Graczyk #118128679
Thank you for the compliment concerning Maryanna Graczyk's memorial. I absolutely did not 'one up' you on the photo. Only that I was flustrated that I could not even read it when physically right in front of it. If you still have your photo, why not repost so that all who look at the photos can tell what the stone actually does look like.

I have a last resort. . .a can of men's shave creme that I always carry with me to cemetery's. I hate using it, but there are sometimes situations where I can do nothing else. I put myself in the deseased 'shoes' and would rather have someone put shave creme on my stone to see that I existed. Rather then have that person walk by my stone and say that they were sorry but couldn't read my inscription.

Again, please repost your photo if you are able.
