Carol,

Ellen (Elinor) was the second wife of Robert Cole (b.1819, d.1891)also buried in Mound Cemetery. References for Ellen's death and burial are her death certificate, and obituary which appeared in the Moundridge Journal on September 13, 1917.

Nicknamed "Ella" and "Ellan".

RE: Ellen Cole
My tree is the Canant Family Tree. I found Ellen Nicholson Cole on Find A Grave by looking at all of the Coles in Kansas. I have found a number of my ancestors aren't buried with their spouses and I find it strange, as well. I just wish I could find answers to so many questions. My GGrandmother, Ellen Talbott Hash was the daughter of Mary Ellen Cole Talbott and she went by Ellen. She and her husband, Philip, both died prematurely and left 2 small children. My mother, who was Mary Ellen Hash Canant told me they didn't die at the same time but not too far apart. Philip is buried in the Dick Cemetery in Cass Co, Illinois but Ellen isn't buried there. I haven't been able to find her date of death or where she is buried. My husband and I made a trip to Illinois this summer to do research but turned up nothing on Ellen. Thank you for the info you shared. I will add it to my tree. I try to document everything, as well. Another Cole relative I met through Ancestry.com has the Mosley Tree and she has been very helpful sharing info. Maybe we will piece this puzzle together by joining forces.

Thanks for the info,

Trudy

RE: Ellen Cole
It's me, again... Which son was Ellen living with? I know of Francis, Cassius, Geroge and Samuel. I know her daughters were Hattie and Mary Ella. Do you have any info on any of these children or know of others. I am particularly interested in Mary Ella. In an 1880 census she was living with her half-sister, Mary Cole Haskell, and was a teacher. Did she ever marry and, if so, who? In that same 1880 sensus, my GGrandmother, Ellen Talbott Hash was visiting her cousins, along with her little daughter, Bertha. My Grandfather was born a few months later. Whatever info you might be able to share is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Trudy

RE: Ellen Cole
Hi Carol,

Robert Cole was the brother of my GGGrandmother. Ellen was his second wife and I am sorry I can't answer your questions. I know Robert is buried in the Mound Cemetery in Moundridge along with his son from his first marriage, Thornton Churchill James Cole and his wife, Drusilla. I don't know why Ellen wasn't buried with Robert. I don't know anything about Fred Cole so don't know why she might be buried near him. I am on Ancestry.com and if you're a member, you're welcome to check out my family tree. Thornton was a prominant citizen of Moundridge and his home is now a museum. If you visit Moundridge Kansas Museums.com you can see the house and learn a little about the family. Sorry I'm not much help. Thanks for getting in touch with me.
