Susan, I can't find those names in my database. And when I put that number into findagrave it comes up to a Mildred Johnson.

Also you didn't say what cemetery she is in.

RE: Elma Lee Raborn
Hi Susan - first, please note they are buried in Nacogdoches, Nacogdoches Co, NOT in Houston, Harris Co - you may wish to edit that comment in each of their bios.

If they were all buried in the same family, I did all that were visible. She either didn't have a marker, or her marker was covered by dirt and not visible to me.

I walked this cemetery row by row and photoed (primarily) all flat markers (another contributor did the upright markers a long time ago). As I noted in many, many, photos I did in this cemetery, there are numerous flat markers that were dirty and/or covered by sand, mud, dirt and grass. It is possible her's was, at that time, covered by dirt and I could have missed it.

You did the correct thing and posted a photo request for the marker. I'm sure a volunteer will try to find it for you. I live in the adjoining county so I don't get up that way too often, sorry.

According to FindaGrave Rules, the last name should match what is on the stone. If your would like, I can transfer the memorial to you, along with his wife. Just let me know.

The Bruffey's are in my family tree through John Slaven Bruffey. So I will not be transferring her to you.

Please use edit tab for corrections.

RE: Georginia
Thank you Susan. We appreciate so much being able to see the unique headstone. It looks like someone simply fashioned it out of a realitivly thin piece of rock. Not professional, but quite lovely & simple. Mrs T.M. Gray would have been how she was referred to in newspapers of the day. Her husband was Thaddeus Mortimer. I'm rather new at this research & know nothing about how to look for obituaries in your area. Would you have any suggestions? Thad died in 1931 in Clayton, Norton County, Kansas but the family tree that listed Jenny as buried in Virginia Dale lists Thad as buried there too. Of course that could be an error, but are there any records that could be checked? I don't suppose we will be making a trip to your area any time soon, but it looks like such a lovely location! Thank you again, Deanna & John Johnson, Mission, TX.

As a researcher I would be the last one to say your information isn't accurate. However, I will say this based on my experience I've found census data to be a good starting place subject to better sources of information. In addition to that I would think you've run into one of the major causes of misinformation and that is given names, middle names and nicknames were often handed down to multiple generations and duplicated even more by siblings of the same generation to their children.
I would ask that you refer to memorials left by others in my posting as well as the connection to wives and children identified in my posting.
I thank you very much for your interest and contact.

Hi Susan

Here's my gggrandmother

Here's a page with some more info.Y It's free to sign up.

As you can see there are 2 other sisters. I didn't know my Mom's family that much so I can't give you too much info on them. But my grandmother died in 1992-her name was Anna Coogan and my Mom died in 2013-her name was Mary McCormick. Her parents are not on find a grave-her Dad was buried in a potters field and her Mom in Vineland, NJ. They had 10 kids and were very poor.

There is family in South Jersey still.

RE: Pleasant Rufus Beard
Hi cousin,

It's good to meet another family member. I'm connected through Laura's brother Lewis Winnfield Beard. My notes indicate that Laura was a real looker. Wish we could have some pictures of all our kin from back then.

With respect to any revisions to the memorial for Pleasant Rufus Beard, I'll just send the changes and you can make a decision on that. I really don't feel right taking it over from you unless you need the help.

That said, I would offer to send you a file that I have on the descendants of John Lewis Beard which I received from another one of our cousins. It has a wealth of details. I wish I could take credit for it. I also wish I could remember her name, but we had a brief contact. For all I know, you might have done the original work on it.

Regards, Dale in Dallas
