James A. Hopkins # 68334807
James A. Hopkins enlisted in Company D, Virginia 58th Infantry Regiment CSA at Camp Hicks, Virginia on 23 July 1861 at the age of 25. His rank at enlistment was 3rd Corporal. He was promoted to Full Corporal on 31 August 1862 and promoted to Full 4th Sergeant on 1 November 1862. The 58th ended the war at Appomattox.

I submitted this edit in March, and since it hasn't as yet been included to his bio, I thought I should bring your attention to it, in case it may have been overlooked. Thanks, Vickie (Clan Logan #48430548)

W.S. Mullaly was William S. Mullaly and he was a well known musician/orchestra leader. Looks like he was born in Manchester in the 1840s. He went insane in 1892. He died in Worcester MA 4 Aug 1905. His brother, John, was also a prominent musician.

Robert Britton was a performer who went by "Bob Britton."

Also I found a reference in that Lydia Thompson book that her real first name was Rachel. But I can find nothing else to back that up.

According to "Lydia Thompson: Queen of Burlesque," and a couple of other books searchable on Google Books, Weber was married to a W.S. Mullaly, divorced him in 1875, married a Robert Britton and died at age 45. I found her in their database under Liza Weber Britton! Section: 39 Lot: 399-418 Lot: S. G. (single grave)

Her burial permit gives her age as 38, place of birth England. There's already an entry for Liza Britton, although I think they have the wrong lot #. I submitted a correction for that.

Shipley Family Cemetery
Hi, Dave,

I am researching Shipley family lineage for an applicant to the DAR and went to the Shipley Family Cemetery in Hanover where her g-g-g-grandmother is buried (Ann Harman). I am confused about the description of this cemetery on FindaGrave because it appears to describe the Shipley Family Cemetery in Harmans (with only 6 markers). I don't know if you wrote the description, but I believe it should be updated and transferred to the one in Harmans. Thank you for all of your photos and research!

Forest Lawn is massive. They have a database you can search; although it costs to see the actual documents. http://www.forest-lawn.com/genealogy

Hi Dave,
Was wondering if you could pass Patrick's site ( and wife Sarah) to my control. He is my 3x ggf. I had been searching for his grave, thank you so much for this posting! Any pics of headstones? And do you know the address of the gravesite, I would love to visit.
Thanks
Dennis McNamara.

Lisa Weber?
I saw your photo request for her, but she's not in the Forest Lawn database. Then I found this https://footlightnotes.wordpress.com/tag/burlesque/ and searched for her under Eliza Weber. Still nothing. Wondering if this was a stage name?

Hi Dave - Got your edit. Are you related or doing research on Frank Bowman? Fascinating guy. I've tried to find a photo of him in the past, but no luck. If you come across one, would love to see it. Regards, Phyllis

Request for Transfer
Dave;
Would you please transfer two memorials that you have created at Western Cemetery? Anne Virginia Sparks (memorial #69314435) as well as her daughter Geraldine (memorial #69314449) are both directly related to my wife. I recently confirmed that Anne is my wife's Great Great Grandmother, having worked for years to locate her. These memorials were instrumental in finding the story of these relative's final years in Baltimore. Thanks very much. Steve Keefe, #47185593

Sarah & Caroline Blaney Buried at Greenmount Cemetery in Baltimore, MD
Dave,
Thanks for the info, very interesting! The newspaper article in a German newspaper has me very curious!!! Since I don't know Sarah Blaney's maiden name, I'm wondering if it's German? Is she from Germany, if so when did she arrive in the US.....now more questions to answer?? I haven't yet discovered where her husband Thomas Blaney was born only know he was born abt 1805 and died 23 Jul 1844, in Baltimore, Maryland. Some ancestors have a way of keeping the mysteries of their life a secret, but I'm not about to stop searching!! I've solved other mysteries of other ancestors, so there's still hope.

Thank you so very much for your help, I appreciate it more than you can possibly know. This family research is so addictive and only a fellow researcher truly understands the need for answers.

Sincerely, Kathleen Cramer

RE: Sarah & Caroline Blaney Buried at Greenmount Cemetery in Baltimore, MD
Dave, Thanks for the reply and offer of help. Since then, I've learned Sarah and her daughter were murdered by William T Blaney who was hung for his crimes. I can find no trace of his father and mother, James Murray Blaney's (father)death date or his wife Jane (unknown maiden name) Blaney, (mother)death date. I'm assuming they're buried in the family plot?? James & Jane fall of the radar after their son's crimes.....I can understand that, but I still would like to know if they are buried in Green Mount Cemetery too. This Blaney family branch has been a real challenge for me. Thank you for any info you can provide.

Sarah & Caroline Blaney Buried at Greenmount Cemetery in Baltimore, MD
Hello Dave Crouse,

I just discovered your memorials to Sarah Blaney (Find A Grave Memorial# 111921110) and her daughter Caroline Blaney (Find A Grave Memorial# 111921150) buried at Greenmount Cemetery in Baltimore, MD. Within the last few days, I discover Sarah Blaney is my 3rd Great Grandmother.
She and her daughter Caroline were murdered by her Grandson. I was wondering if any photos of their headstones are available and if other Blaney family members are also at Greenmount. Her husband's name was Thomas Blaney, I believe he died 23 Jul 1844. I was wondering how this memorial came to be and is any other family information known, thank you for your time and help. Thanks for being a member of Find-A-Grave, it's a wonderful service for us family research detectives!!

BETHEL MEMORIALS
Hello again Dave,

I just wanted to follow up to see if there is a problem with getting the memorials for McWhorter and Cowan removed.

As the minister of this church, I have access to the church register for the cemetery. The link provided in the earlier email clearly shows that founding member John McWhorter was buried in Walker County, GA.

And there is no record of a Robert Cowan other than the one we show as Robert Hiram Cowan Sr.
born 1782 basically putting him after the Revolution.

I am also aware of how hard the DAR chapters work to have accurate info; in fact, we have quite a number of individuals reach out to us for info on families buried in our cemetery in an effort to establish their direct line to a patriot.

Thanks again for the work you do and for your attention to these two memorials.

Frank

RE: Two Bethel Memorials
Dave,

JOHN MCWHORTER #16640122 is buried in Walter Co., GA. If the DAR says that he is buried at Bethel, it is incorrect. His wife, however, is buried at Bethel. Both were founding members of the church in 1805. So McWhorter #157921877 can be deleted.

Even though the DAR record suggests that Bethel's ROBERT COWAN served in the Revolutionary War, he did not. The Cowan you listed #157921535 is the same as ROBERT HIRAM COWAN, SR #12931626.

Thanks again,

Frank

Two Bethel Memorials
Greetings Dave,

You recently added two memorials to the Bethel Presbyterian Church site:
#157921535 (Robt. Cowan) and
#157921877 (John McWhorter).

Both memorials are duplicates. The former, Cowan, has been previously added to the Bethel site, while the latter, McWhorter, was buried in Georgia.

Thanks,

Frank

Thank you so much! When I took over managing Otto's memorial I didn't notice the mistake. He was the brother of my great grandmother, Lillie McClurg.

I saw your post. Is there any other marker? I am looking for his wife Emma ( died between 1900 and 1910) and his mother Magdelena ( after 1900). Also if you are in that area, I would appreciate a photo. Please let me know what expenses you might have . I am researching for cousins. Pat Kastal
