I noticed that you have Defore's listed in your family. Are any of them around Owen County, Indiana?

RE: Wm Joseph Leban
No I don't know where he is buried. His son told me that Marie was buried in Chicago, so I didn't realize she was buried there.
She is a my husband's great aunt.
Thanks, Kris

D. L. Lee
Fulkerson Photographs
Georgia,

I found Essie and Earnest Ray Fulkerson's markers and posted photographs, but I feel confident that the dates on the memorials are more accurate that the ones engraved on their markers. The markers were probably added at a much later date which would explain the errors. The dates on the memorials posted by L. Kirby are from the certificates of death. This confirms that her date for Earnest Ray is correct.

There was a third marker that I am setting up a memorial and tranferring to your care. I was unable to find any related information that matched this single date for a birth or a death. D. L.

RE: condolences
Thank you Georgia for your condolences. The only reason I had not added her memorial to Find A Grave when I did the rest of my family was that she was still living. I appreciate you taking yours off and I do understand that you had it on first but when you put it on she was still living. Yes I do have a lot of very good memories of her. She was a very amazing woman. Again thank you, Linda

RE: norton headstone
Hi Georgia,

I'm glad I was able to help.

There are 4 Norton memorials posted w/3 photos.
I see a listing for the infant, Doris Norton (1916-1916), in two different lists, but did not see an infant marker near Lewis, Frankie & Kenneth's markers.

RE: Bessie Marie Higgs and Dewey Boone
Thank you for checking with your/our cousin. If we could get an obit that would be wonderful. I live in South Carolina, so it is not something I can do very easily. It is good we can find relatives and fill in some pieces. I have confirmed documentation of my lineage to my 2nd great grandmother, Letitia Ann Smith Conley. I have been able to find the grave site of my 3rd great grandfather, Squire Lowry Smith, Sr in Illinois. I have not been able to locate his wife, Leticia B Oldham; we have so many different spellings of her first name it makes it difficult. I have traced her to 1900, when her daughter, Mary Conley was living with her in Clay County, Illinois. I'll let you know if I find anything else on Bessie (Higgs) or Dewey Boone.

It is nice to meet another family member. We are related by their marriage; however, I also have a lot of Smith family members in my line. Maybe I will find a closer relationship in my search. Thank you for adding the information on their memorial pages. I have been working on the children of Hetty May Smith (2nd cousin 3x removed) and James Washington Higgs this week. I have positive DNA results in Hetty's family line, which is exciting to find. Do you know if Bessie and Dewey had any children?

Thank you so much. I am in Springfield, so if you ever need anything from the State Archives, let me know. I also have access to the Springfield papers from the mid-1800s to the present, if that is ever helpful.

Holtz in Oakwood
Thank you so much for all the information and the correction. I will attempt to see if there are any death records in LaSalle for Elisa. I have checked the Illinois Archives death index on line for pre-1916 deaths and found no listing there. I’ve also been to the Illinois Archives and found nothing on their microfilms, but honestly anymore I don’t remember if her death date was covered. I was able to find her husband, William G. Holtz’s death record. Interestingly his mother’s name is listed as Fredika (husband Helmuth), which is so close to the Friedericka you have found. I have no idea if William’s parents ever came to the United States or if she remarried. This will give me a new angle to research. There must be some relationship. I see that William and Elisa’s son Otto is buried “next door” in 83L, so perhaps Friedericka belongs with them.

I remain on the lookout for a Hedwig Holtz. I believe I have found the 1890 immigration records for the Holtz family, but it includes an additional child Hedwig, dob 1886. No one in the family has ever heard of her, so I keep hoping to find some record of her around LaSalle to confirm I have the correct family. If I have the correct immigration records, I suspect she died young in LaSalle.

I would appreciate the transfer of William, Elisa and the infant. I will leave their other child, Otto Sr. and his family with you, in case that branch of the family ever comes looking for them. If you could link Otto (105190379), to his parents at your convenience, I would appreciate that. I’m still learning how all of this works but I think we can only link to parents and spouses, not children.

Once again, thank you for everything.

Many thanks for the photo's of the Franks, and Franz. Do you know if any records exist that would indicate if Alma's grave ever had a stone?
Thanks Tom

Holtz in Oakwood
I want to thank you for finding the graves of my great-grandparents, William and Elisa Holtz (105190401, 105190434). You have also helped to confirm a story I had heard from the family that Elisa died in child birth with twins or triplets, since you also included the unmarked grave of an infant Holtz (105190461), who died six days after Elisa. It is my understanding that the children sadly did not survive and one or more may have been buried in Elisa’s casket. I was curious as to how you found information about the unmarked grave. Are there written records for Oakwood? If so, I suspect there may have been an error in the records, since the infant is listed as being born six days after Elisa’s death and it seems they must be related. If you can guide me in a direction to find out more information about these burials, I would be greatly interested. If there is no additional information, I am so glad to have something to substantiate the family oral history.

There is no problem... the problem is with the cemetery you can only request three locations per day and since which makes it really hard to complete all the requests. If you can call the cemetery and ask them the location of the grave I can take a picture for you much faster. Otherwise I work from the oldest request to the newest.
