Whaley Memorials
Sherry, I transferred Henry G Whaley to you some time ago. Would you like to have his father, Capt Benjamin Whaley ? Also, I have his wife, Mary Herbert Whaley, three children, James Canon Whaley, Thomas Bell Whaley, Henry L Whaley. There are a total of 15 that are all related. I have no relation to them and would like to transfer all to you... Michael

Sally Ogle
Thanks for all your contributions to this site. I see your name often for many of my ancestors memorials.

I noticed the death dates for Sally Ogle are different. One shows 1901 the other 1910, both in the same memorial. I believe the correct date is 1901 from other research I have seen. Not an issue for me, but was confused when I searched and found the 1910 date. Didn't think I had the right person at first but when I viewed the memorial I also saw the 1901 date.

This is what I remember from viewing the site. I could be wrong.

I wish the inscription was more legible in the photo but it is barely legible up close.

Hi Sherry, I only make it to Gatlinburg once or sometimes twice a year, but I love visiting the cemetery when I go. Next time I'm there I will look for Whaley's and picture them for you.

Hi Sherry, I am not sure how kin you are to the Sizemores, but I wanted to let you know I posted a photo of Emma Mae Sizemore Messer Miller to her grave. I am also a direct kin to the Whaley Family.

Jay C. Whaley 1932-1994
Sherry,
I am Jay (aka Joy) Whaley's youngest daughter. Maternally my family tree has many branches, but I know very little of my father's lineage except for his siblings and some of my cousins. Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Though my information is limited, I am happy to share if I have any additional information that you may not have.
Thank you,
Alison

Jack Brannon
Families of Sevier Co.
Sherry,

At present, I'm working on the the descendants of Johnson Adams, Sr. His children married into most of the old surnames in Sevier Co. (Trentham/Ogle/Huskey/Headrick/Walker/Whaley/Kimsey/Fancher/etc/etc. A lot of these people migrated out to different counties, and out of state.

I could use some help from time to time, would you consider helping making my endeavor more complete?? I'm far removed from Eastern Tn. that makes me somewhat disadvanaged in my research. I will share everything I have.

Please reply.

Sincerely,

Jack Brannon

So sorry Sherry. I put the wrong sister's name. I should have said Minnie Whaley. Charlcy was married to a Kiser.

Charlcy Whaley
Hi Sherry. I've really enjoyed reading the information you have posted. My great-grandmother was Martha Alice Davis Webb (sister to Charlcy). I have been searching for information on Benjamin Franklin Davis. I saw the info about the applications being rejected. Do you have more info concerning that?

You can contact me at curtis_terihankins@sbcglobal.net. I'd really like to hear from you.

You should sign up on GoSmokies and send me a friend request. Then I can send you some pictures of these chimneys. No way to send you pictures on here.

Jethro Whaley
Jethro "Jeter" Whaley has one of the biggest remaining Chimneys in Greenbrier. It's in an area known as the horseshoe due to the way Porters creek goes around it like a horseshoe. Several home sites in the "shoe" but his is the best. Obviously he had a large home.

RE: Cemetery
You should make it for that reunion. But make sure you have time for a M&M hike. Me and Maples can take you to some cemeteries and old home sites of your family. And I know he will have lots of stories to tell you so have a video camera. No way you'll remember everything that boy has to say.

William Arthur Cantrell
Hi Sherry,
I made the additions to his memorial. You may already know this and I have run into this a few times on findagrave. The Friendship Cemetery is often called the Whaley cemetery and it is just off the Grapeyard Ridge trail. Next to the Cemetery at one time was the Friendship Baptist Church, hence the name of the cemetery. I know that on some maps it is listed as the Whaley cemetery and the National Park may have it listed as such. But I have learned in my own research and hiking with Mike Maples that the Park renamed many of the cemeteries. I find it somewhat confusing because a little farther down the road you can do a short hike up to the Elijah Whaley Cemetery. William Arthur's father Elbert lived a short distance up the Porters Creek trail. You may know all this stuff already but just in case I thought I'd share it. Have you visited these cemeteries and the Greenbrier area? If not, we need to get you down here for a hike in the Brier with Mike Maples. I bet you two are kinfolk anyway.
