MADISON - Grace E. Parragh, of Madison, formerly of Norridge, Ill., passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Four Winds Nursing Home, Verona.

She was born in McKeesport, Pa., on Nov. 18, 1918, to Zigmond and Amalia Pinkoczy who were of Hungarian descent. She was raised in Dearborn, Mich., graduating from Fordson High School and eventually graduating from the Detroit Conservatory of Music. Grace began studying at the age of 6 and eventually became accomplished in both piano and organ. As a young teen, she began playing the organ in her church when she was requested to play during the service when the church organist became ill. When it became obvious that she would be doing this regularly, she was motivated to learn the organ. During her study at the conservatory, she performed in concerts throughout the Detroit and Dearborn area. Her love of performing prompted her decision to become a performing artist. She auditioned and was accepted at the Julliard School of Music in New York where she continued her advanced music study and also began to study the harp.

It was in New York where she met her husband who was studying at Union Theological Seminary which conveniently happened to be directly across the street, at that time, from Julliard. She and Desmond D. Parragh were married for 63 years and worked side by side in Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ Churches in Pennsylvania and the Chicago area where they remained for 50 years. She served as the choral director and organist during those years as a lifetime commitment. In addition, she served in various church organizations, taught piano and worked outside of the home in secretarial positions in the area. She was always willing to become involved in any Hungarian music related activities whenever asked and set up programs for performances within the Hungarian community.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven siblings; and most recently, her husband, Desmond, in 2006. She is survived by her daughter, Grace (Warren) Nickel of Verona; three grandchildren, Adam (Kelly) Crandall of Janesville, Nathan (Michelle) Crandall of Milton, and Heather (Lee) Gwaltney of Virginia Beach, Va.; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held at 2 p.m. with a funeral service at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013, at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, to be officiated by the Right Rev. Kolomon Ludwig, Bishop and the Rev. Nathan Crandall. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison.

FAG Memorial for Mary Denise Lukacs
I just thought you'd like to know that there are two memorials that have been created for this individual. Your Find A Grave is 102773669. One of the Find A Grave contributors named Jim Ditton created # 102828648. Yours has her birth and death dates, whereas the other one does not. I mention this because she went by the name Denise to all of her friends in both elementary and high schools. My sister was her classmate at both Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs (OLQM) elementary and Marian High School. She graduated from the former in 1966 and high school in 1970. Perhaps an administrator at Find A Grave can merge these two memorials. Thanks!

RE: Re: Anne M. Cannon
Thanks so much for the update! If you find any others please feel free to send them on, but please use the "edit" tab (next to "share" tab), to "send a correction or provide additional information". Its SO much quicker for me to edit the memorial that way and I have dozens of updates each week.

Now that this memorial is updated (giving you credit for the info), don't forget to delete the duplicate memorial that you created for her.

Enjoy the Christmas season,
Sylvia

Great Lakes National is the official name. I guess some in the area may simply say Holly Military assuming everyone knows what they are referring to.
