RE: Eldora Thompson
Oh, please contact me, The Thompsons are the hardest family for me to follow, as by the time I got into tracing my family everyone I could talk to had passed. Eldora Thompson Holder was the wife of David Holder, who son was Charles Collie Holder, who;s son was Lawrence Holder, who had Wilma Holder who had me. I would love any help you could give me and I LOVE old picture of those we search for. It is great to put a face to a name. My email is
I live in St. Joseph, Mo.

I am so excited that you have contacted me. Can not wait to share info. Do you know anything about Landon Thompson and Flem. I recieved information on a slip of paper that they were shot at a bar on the river, nothing else. it was hand written and the lady who wrote it is gone.

Thanks alot,
Jona Schneck

John Ashton Sillick

I am related to John Ashton Sillick
and I just found the picture that you
added to John's memorial. Are you related
also? Where did you get his picture? I
believe that you live in Missouri as I do.
I live in Rolla, my son lives in Lee's
Summit and my granddaugter goes to school
in Maryville.

I will check with our library and see if they have any micro film, I really don't know because I have never done research in Hart..The society is only opened on Wednesday--one day I will go there, just to see what they have??

RE: Post Family
I will add the photos for Edwin & Margaret...I could only make out a couple of letters for the word under Justus--I think it is Mathewson. Yes we have a Genealogy Society, it is opened only on Wednesday--I have never been to it, because I have no one in Oceana County. Right now I am super busy with a Yard Sale set for the 15th of Sept for our Home For The Aged; after that I could check for you. The library really doesn't have anything, the burials..The courthouse may have some things you need, but again if you want me to look, it will have to wait.
Just remind me, if I forget and let me know just what you would like to find out?

RE: Post/Mathewson Family
I put the photo's on; they are not the greatest, the stone is hard to read. Will try & get some better shots another time, I have to go back to Mears Cemetery again to take more pictures.

All of the names are on the same stone with Post on the front. No dates for Justus & Rebecca Mathewson (you can hardly make out some letters in the name)
Also on the stone is Edwin Post & wife Margaret B.--they also have a headstone next to the big one. If you add their names, I will put the picture on for you.
Glad to be of help to you.

RE: Hart Cemeteries
Cole, I went to the library & found all of your request in Mears Cemetery...I will go to Mears tomorrow, I have Coffee Hour in the morning, but will go after and get gravesite pictures for you..Add their names to Mears Cemetery, just fill in the birth & death dates, that way it will be your memorial & I can just add the photo.
Do you have any others in Mears while I am there? I did start to add several to Mears, will probably get all of them before the cold weather comes. Something to work on this winter and then I also have 3 Ancestry Trees to work on...

Sleeth markers in Union Cem, Coles Co, IL

Apparently Find A Grave now has a "filtering engine" to prevent "unwanted" or "negative" msg from being sent.
My bad! I used the word "t o i d i" in a previous msg. (reverse the letters).

Anyway, to answer your query, the CCGS pub. "The Prairie Sleeps" Vol IV has the following listed in Union Cem:

Sleeth, Freddie (7 mo) died 7-28-1886
Sleeth, Warren T. born 1863 died 1919.

Sleeth markers in Union Cem, Coles Co, IL

I did not search for additional Sleeth markers while I was there, but the Coles Co Genealogical Society's publication, "The Prairie Sleeps" Vol IV on page 265 lists the following:

Sleeth, Freddie (age 7 mo), died 7-28-1886
Sleeth, Warren T. born 1863, died 1919.

So, apparently, at some time, someone read a marker for Freddie.

I shutter every time I read an entry like that! Any idiot can determine a birth date (or at least the year) by subtracting the age from the death date. However, I guess it was just considered to be quicker or easier or some other good reason why they did not do the simple math.

RE: Coles County

In Union Cem:
Emanuel Clapp b. 12-16-1840 d. 12-3-1903
Nancy E. (wife of E.) b. 2-15-1845 d. 2-14-1875
Info also present in "The Prairie Sleeps", Nancy age 25. However that does not mesh with the stated b/d dates!

Joseph (son of E. & N.E.)(age 11 mo) d. 11-25-1873
Lydia M.(dau of E. & N.E.)(age 15) d. 9-7-1883
It would appear that these children were named after Emanuel's parents??
There are 17 additional Clapps in Union.

I will have to search deeper to see if Jos & Lydia, or Peter & Margaret Devore can be found.
