Mary Yates Craig & Samuel D. Craig
Hi! I see that you have requested photos of headstones for Mary Yates Craig and Samuel D. Craig. This cemetery will not provide the location of grave sites to Find A Grave volunteers and prohibits photographs. However, I believe that someone will take the photographs if you can contact the cemetery to get the locations and then re-post your request.

The Bowker Family
HELLO AGAIN,
THE STORY THAT WAS TOLD TO MY AUNT DORIS WAS FRANCIS AND HIS BROTHER HAD BEEN SENT TO THE U.S. AFTER THE DEATH OF HIS MOTHER. HE SUPPOSEDLY STAYED IN ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY WITH A FAMILY DAVISON OR DAVIDSON BUT AGAIN I DON'T KNOW HOW TRUE IT IS. MY GRANDMOTHER AND HER FAMILY WERE FROM PITCAIRN IN ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY AND LATER MOVED TO WATERTOWN, JEFFERSON COUNTY NEW YORK.

The Bowker Family
Hello,
my name is Lisa. I am very interested in learning about the Bowker family. I was born, Lisa Mae Bowker. My father's name was Donald EDWARD BOWKER, HIS FATHER WAS A FRANCIS JAMES BOWKER WHO APPARENTY IMMIGRATED TO THE U.S. IN 1897 HE CLAIMED ANYWAY. HE MARRIED MARGARET ESTELLE REMORE. I'M NOT SURE IF THEY MARRIED IN JEFFERSON OR ONONDAGA COUNTY. I HAVE BEEEN TRYING TO SERCH FOR INFORMATION ON HIM FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW AND TURN UP VERY LITTLE. I THINK HE HAD FAMILY HERE IN JEFFERSON COUNTY NEW YORK. HE CLAIMED HE AND HIS BROTHER WERE SENT HERE AFTER THE DEATH OF HIS MOTHER AND STAYED WITH A OTHER PEOPLE. I DON'T KNOW HOW TRUE THE STORY IS. I ONLY KNOW HE DISAPPEARED FROM MY GRANDMOTHER AND THEIR FIVE CHILDREN, MARGARET, ROBERT, DONALD, PAUL AND DORIS SOMETIME BETWEEN 1927 AND 1930. MY AUNT DORIS WAS BORN IN 1927. I DON'T KNOW IF HE DIED, LEFT THE STATE OR WHAT. I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KNOW WHO IS FAMILY WAS.I'M HOPING YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP ME. THE FAMILY LIVED IN SYRACUSE FROM AT LEAST 1915 ON. I WAS TOLD HIS MOTHER'S NAME WAS CHARLOTTE BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TRUE THAT IS EITHER. I BELIEVE FRANCIS, "fRANK" MIGHT HAVE LIVED IN WATERTOWN DURING THE TIME HE AND MY GRANDMOTHER MIGHT HAVE MARRIED BECAUSE HER MOTHER MINNIE ETTA BACON LIVED IN THE CITY OF WATERTOWN, JEFFERSON COUNTY NEW YORK DURING THAT TIME. MINNIE ETTA BACON WAS MARRIED TO CHESTER W. REMORE. THEY COULD HAVE POSSIBLY MET AND MARRIED IN ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY NEW YORK ALSO. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF BIG QUESTIONS REGARDING FRANCIS "FRANK" BOWKER' 1. WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM AFTER HE LEFT MY GRANDMOTHER, OR DID HE? AND WHERE DID HE AND MARGARET ESTELLE REMORE MEET AND WED? I REALLY HOPE YOUR INFORMATION ON THE BOWKER'S WILL HELP ME IN MY SEARCH. BY THE WAY, FRANCIS JAMES WAS SUPPOSEDLY BORN DECEMBER 25, 1886, AT LEAST THAT'S THE DATE HE PUT ON HIS MILITARY ENLISTMENT PAPERS.

Happy to help. Would you like management of Laura V., evidently a child of William? And/or the others I have added (Unknown children of Abel, Wesley and Harriet).

Kelly, very glad to help. Don't know if you were aware, but her daughter, Ruth, is buried next to her. I added a virtual photo to Ruth's memorial (#93788848) and asked the owner to add the link to Ethel. Ruth's father was William James Meredith, but it looks like he Ethel divorced. Take care.

Tamar Jacoby
looking for information about Bill McGrath
Dear Kelly

I'm a journalist and author writing a book about the years after World War II that includes some chapters set at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

I keep coming across your grandfather, Bill McGrath. He was involved in a lot of the Rensselaer student activities I'm looking into and exemplified the kind of returning veteran I'm trying to profile guys who came back from WWII and wherever they went took charge of things and tried to make them better. (His wife Joyce keeps popping up too, and I'm also interested in her.)

What I wonder: do you have any other information about them? Any letter or papers or diaries or scrapbooks they might have left from those early days?

I'd love to speak to you briefly if you have a moment. I can be reached at tjacoby@immigrationworksusa.org or 202 506-4541.

Thank you very much for considering it. I look forward to hearing from you.

All best, Tamar Jacoby

P.S. A little more about me: I'm a former journalist with the New York Times and Newsweek. I've published several books and am currently running a small nonprofit organization in Washington DC.

Hi,
I went to Forest Hills Cemetery this afternoon to try to fulfill as many photo requests as I could (there are currently 50+ for this cemetery), but I was disappointed to learn that the office will look up the plot location of two names for free, but charge a prohibitively high fee of $15 for every two names after the first two. I wasn't able to take pictures for you this weekend, but I imagine if you call the Forest Hills Cemetery office during business hours (617.524.0128) or send them an email (info@foresthillscemetery.com)they can give you the plot locations for free over the phone. If you find out the plot location, I'll be happy to photograph the headstone for you.
Best,
Doug

Hello Kelly,
I checked with the Lawn Croft office today and there is no Bertha Crow buried there. The only other Crow they have is "Alva".
Bests,

RE: Tyson/Aikman/Crow Graves
Hello Kelly,
I just transferred the Carl Crow memorial I created a little while back to you rather than redo the updates to yours. I hope you don't mind. I will look for Bertha Tyson Crow while I am there - not a problem.
Regards,
Bill

RE: Adding your photo?
Hello Kelly,
My pleasure. I've added the photos for J. Otis Tyson. I claimed the request for Emma but want to hold off adding photos for a few days until I get back to Lawn Croft. There are 2 flat markers there that I didn't clean off and photograph since they were Aikman. One is most likely Emma and the other John. Would you like to add a memorial for him also and then put a photo request out there? After I get them shot, I'll add them to the memorials and the 'bubble' photo, and update all of them. After that, you can go in and re-arrange the photos in whatever order you prefer.
Bests,
Bill

RE: re: Oliver Sidwell
Hi,
Sorry,I have more bad news for you regarding Oliver Sidwell.

1990 I was church secretary for Shelemiah United Methodist Church in Bayview, MD and they hold the early records of the church membership, death records, baptism and cemetery records of which I have a copy of and there is "NO" Oliver Sidwell listed in the death records, cemetery records, marriage or baptism records that goes back to the early 1800's.

I did a quick search on Ancestry.com and it seems that Oliver and Lulu Sidwell lived in Nottingham Township and that is PENNSYVANIA.

Wished I had better news for you.
Janet

RE: Thank you
Hello Kelly,
Yes, they are in decimal format. Try putting in just the numbers as shown:
39.819517
-75.437733
Make sure there are no spaces before or after the numbers - sometimes that causes problems. Please let me know it that works.

RE: Transfer request?
Hi Kelly - This is so awesome. This cemetery is literally across the street from my mother-in-law's house. We were on vacation last year and I walked over, took all the photos and added all of them to Find A Grave. I would be glad to transfer them to you and any others you feel are your people. This a very old cemetery and has several Sea Captains and their families buried there. Take care, the transfers are on the way.

Hi Kelly,

Your description helped a lot to find the tomb, so thank you for those details! I was disappointed that there was no list of names, but that is often the case with the tombs. Feel free to let me know and I will gladly upload the photos, I am also happy to E-mail yo the larger files and you can add them yourself if you prefer. Thanks!
