RE: Rosella Rhodes
You're very welcome. I wasn't sure either, sometimes the stones have the wrong dates on them. Thanks!

There should be a notation on this memorial that it is a tribute and not an actual burial for him. Many towns and/or GAR posts put up monuments in their local cemeteries to honor their dead. He was buried initially on the battlefield, then when the national cemeteries were established after the war the bodies were removed from battlefield graves to the closest national cemetery.

Peg, You posted a photograph of a stone in the Bidwell Cemetery that is not readable. When I encounter a stone like this, and know that no further damage can be done to the stone because it is in such sad shape, I use shaving cream and a spackle knife to obtain the information. I hope you don't think I am terrible, but if you are family, it is your stone anyway. Just a thought...Lisa

Re: Charles Stanford
Thank you for the photo. I was wondering if his wife Annie had a stone? Or, is there any other Stanford's in the area Charles is buried? I was up there a couple of times and could not find this one. Could you tell me the location of his stone? Thank you again!

RE: Hi Peg!
Thank you! I have been scouring the internet. I found a Degel Israel Synagogue. I wondered if there was an affiliation. But for the life of me, I cannot seem to get an address or phone number!

Hi Peg!
Hi Peg,
How are you? A few weeks ago, you took a picture in the Degel Israel Cemetery of my father's brother, "Baby Kaufman"

My family and I are looking to see about making a donation to that cemetery, but I cannot find the phone number for it anywhere! Do you know if there is a different name for the cemetery? Is it still functioning? Is it abandoned? You have already been immensely helpful. If there is any way that you have some information on this cemetery that would help me to be able to contact it, I would be so grateful!
Is there anything you know?
-Emily Kaufman

Their head stone is near Karr Huse (she is his daughter). They have one stone for both. I have a photo of Karr's stone showing these stones they are just not clear. If you wish to see it, my email is

You got it. Go with the stone unless there's really good reason not to. Thanks for the transfers.

So the only discrepancy is Dec 12 vs.Dec 14. I guess I'll go with the stone, and not worry about 2 days.

Yes, I would appreciate a transfer. Thanks.

Thanks. This helps a lot. I just e-mailed you regarding Ella, who was their daughter. Ella's husband probably remarried.

Also there is a problem with the death date you gave me for Ephriam. He was definitely alive in 1880, so your date is too early. Other sources (second hand) have a death date of Dec 12, 1889. Could you please double check the stone? Thanks.

RE: Thank much
I find what you do fascinating! I really do not know what my grandparents were doing in that part of NY when they had that baby. Is it possible for you to tell me if there are any Ichkowitz graves at that cemetery?
I do not want to tax've been so helpful already...

Thank much
Hello Peg,
How are you? I cannot thank you enough for these pictures. They mean the world to me, I have known for many years that my grandparents had a baby that died. I saw a picture of the grave for the very first time just this past May when my grandmother died. In the picture that we found, the entire stone was exposed and about a foot thick. There was no fence anywhere near it. But, it is absolutely the same grave. And now, I know for certain where I can find it. I cannot thank you enough!
