Smith DNA
Hi Debbie,

I am researching my Smith line that came to Texas (Hopkins County and Dallas area) from Tennessee before 1850. Has anyone in your family ever taken a DNA test to see what Smith lines are more closely related to you? There is a website of Smith DNA markers and my Smiths are close to some in TN but I haven't found any in Texas that they are closely related to. If you do know of someone in your lineage who has a test kit on the worldwide Smith DNA website can you let me know the kit number so I can check it against our family's DNA sample? Thanks for any help you can give!

Just an FYI - I added a headstone photo this evening (the headstone is a bit faded and has quite a bit of lichens/fungi on it).

Barksdales
Hi Debbie,
I had forgotten that I left a message for you on this site! Thanks for responding. I have always heard about the Barksdale book, but have never put out the effort to find one (out of print?) and purchase it. Do you know where they can be obtained?

Barksdales
Hi Debbie,
My maternal grandmother was a Barksdale, her father was Claiborne Robert Barksdale, son of Beverly II and Nancy Easley Barksdale. Would love to hear from you, how you are related. I am currently trying to hunt down any photographs of the above mentioned people?
Would love to hear from you,
Alice.

my husband bought the land from Runyons (not sure of the spelling). I don't know who had it before that but I'm sure he knows.

RE: do you know where they are buried
I posted this in 2008

got home from church, we have a visitor (we don't know him), he is with McMinn Historical Society at Athens Courthouse.

We have a cemetery on our property

the info that he mailed up says this

Copied by Lawrence McConkey, Englewood, Tennessee
Date: June 6, 1939

The Allen Dotson Family Cemetery is 6 miles N.W. of Niota via the Union McMinn Road. Niota is 6 miles W. of Athens via the Lee Highway. It was established circa 1860 by the family of Allen Dotson, following his death, and was discountinued before 1900. There are 4 graves in the cemetery. Allen Dotson married Martha (Patsy), daughter of John and Cloria Rector Arnwine, in (there is a date here but it's marked out). Then 2 married daughters are buried in the cemetery: Nannie who married Frank Wallis and Jane who married Pryor Dobbs. The graveyard is now owned by Bruce Anderson, R.F.D#1, Niota, TN (this is the land that I know own)

Allen Dotson
Born about 1818

Diet in 1884

Nannie

Born about 1840
Diet about 1884

Jane
daughter of Allen and Martha (Patsy) Dotson and wife of Pryor Dobbs
Born about 1840
Diet about (there is a date here but it is marked out and error written over it)

Family Skethc
Allen Dotson, married Martha (Patsy) Arnwine, daughter of John and Cloria Rector Arnwine in 1838. They were the parents of the following children: Jack, Nannie, Washington, and Jane. Their history follows: Jack married Tennie Lankford. She is buried at Rockwood, Tenn. Nannie married Frank Wallis. They were the parents of Bottie Buttram. Washington, died unmarried. Jane, married Pryor Dobbs. They had no children. Allen Dotson, it seems was not related to the Dodson family, that settled in the county early, and who were related to the Matlock and Arnwine families. There was a Wm. Dotson who was a member of the county court from about 1830 to 1840. He might have been the father of Allen Dotson, although someof the records list him as William Dodson and some as William Dotson. The Arnwine family cemetery and Matlock community cemetery are only a few miles from the Dotson cemetery, and Mrs. Dotson relatives are buried in these cemeteries. There are no actual inscripitons with dates etc. on the rock markers to the four graves in the Allen Dotson cemetery. It is located 6 miles N.W. of Niota, about one mile beyond Union McMinn Baptist Chruch. Niota is 6 miles N. of Athens, via the Lee Highway.

(there is now a brand new marker that was put up this summer by the McMinn Historical Society)
the guy that mailed me this stuff also included some chancery court records of McMinn Co with the Dotson/Dodson name underlines

Please call office 954-581-9033 and ask the office for the section name and lot and space information. Then I will be happy to try and fill your request. Be sure to add that information to your request.
I have filled over 85 photo request so I only go to the office when I can't find a grave stone. Otherwise, they may not help me, when I need to go.
Thank you,
Donna

Carrie Finstrom
I have information regarding Carrie Finstrom. She was my great grandmother's sister. She was born 3 Feb 1876 in Dalarna Sweden. She and her mother (Anna Falk 1854-1920) and father (Erick Falk 1845-1929) came to America in 1879 and moved to Boone, Iowa where her brother Enfred `(1880-1918) was born. The family went back to Sweden, but returned to America in 1885 by way of the Orlando from Sweden to London, and then on the City of Chester from London to New York. The family then took up residence in Kandiyohi county in Minnesota where Ellen (my great-grandmother 1888-1974) was born. She married David on 12 Jun, 1901. She died 31 Jan 1967.

New Hope Church
Yes Debbie that is the church. It has been there probably over a hundred years...I have also joined that church at one time...My husband attented that church when we went together and married...probably half of the cemetery is family members. Gladys and Clyde Hill is his parents...not to mention all the nephews and nieces also aunts and uncles...So, I'm real familiar with that area...use to sing with a gospel group that sang all over Hardee, Manatee, highlands, all around Arcadia....this is my stomping ground....I haven't checked out any other memorial...but there was no Solon Wilson when I put him on my site.

Smithson (El Reno)
Debbie, I'm still trying to find out something for you. At the library, someone snuck in and didn't sign in to go to the back room and stole the cem.book I needed to see your people in question, so am waiting to try to catch the workers at the cem. when they're in the sexton's office, to ask about the burial lots. It's hard to catch them, as I have no vehicle when they're there, but husband is off next Monday, so will try to catch them on that day. Please be patient with us and we'll get you info. Need to find out full birth and death dates, so we can get obits for Laura and J. from the library newspaper films, as they would probably tell if they were husband and wife and dau. name, so we would know if Mary is their dau. for sure. Hers doesn't say who parents were, on F.A.G.

Later....
