Don't think I ever replied to this... and I'm doing some 'spring cleaning' on my old messages.

Seems very unusual for a girl to marry at only 15 1/2 years... in fact illegal in MO... but this could have been before the legal limits on marriage for a girl in MO were set at 18 without parent's consent and 16 with parent's consent.

Dates and ages out of the norm raise my suspicions for an error somewhere in the records, partly because I have found SO MANY errors in genealogy... errors on marriage licenses (one I think was more likely a lie than an error), errors on enlistment record, errors on census reports, errors on death certificates and in obituaries are very common, and even errors on two birth certificates.

Found one record where a mother would be over 50 years older than her child. Things like that leave me with a 99% probability that the mother actually was the child's grandmother.

A marriage at 15 1/2 just looks to me like something that needs to be thoroughly verified.

Ollie's great grandson told me her maiden name and also showed me an obituary about her husband, William that had her maiden name in it. I have a copy of the obituary if you would like to see it. Really sorry you can't help me for I have definitely ram into a brick wall on Dora. Thank you for replying, Kaye

I see you have left flowers at both these Memorials #79837363 & #79837374 and call them cousins, so I am wondering if maybe you can give me some information concerning a daughter of theirs. Would you please let me know if you have any information of any kind concerning any of their children that would help me in finding where their daughter, Dora Barrett died and is buried. Thank you, Kaye Harkins McClintock #47734417

I saw that you were interested in contacting the granddaughter of Homer & Pearl Hedrick buried in Augusta, IL. She had talked to the photographer that was in the cemetery taking photos of the Hedrick gravestones. This was in June 2013. This woman is my mother and I am the family genealogist. I am willing to share information if you are interested. Thank you.

Forgive me, please, if this is a repeat. I see we have interest in the same Meadows family members. I am related by marriage to Andrew L Meadows. He married my Gr Grandfather's sister.

please drop me a line and we can compare notes.

Thanks for the verification.

I know how easy it is in genealogy to make mistakes or copy the mistakes of others. I've made my share of mistakes, and have found a few by others, so whenever a woman is reported as giving birth before age 17 or after age 40, I double check. Not impossible, but just unusual.

Anyway, thanks very much for the further data and the verification that the posting is correct.

(I have just GOT to get to Salem & see if my 'country cousin', Ken F, has any more copies of his cemetery book!)

Luticia Emmaline Taff Freeman

Do you have the source or any more info on:

Luticia Emmaline Taff Freeman # 92573678
Birth: Mar. 7, 1844

If all is correct, she would have been only 16 when her first child, Mary Rebecca, was born. Not impossible, but does give rise to some doubt.

Thanks for the transfer to me. Just trying to be as certain as possible.

Hi -

I am so sorry I did not transfer these earlier. Life has been busy, and I had not checked my find-a-grave messages for a year. I just transferred Mary, Fred, and Leverne Worthen to you, so that you can manage the find-a-grave memorials for your family. Merry Christmas!

RE: Luticia & Laura BUTTS
Thank you for both of the transfers of two of my Grx2 grandparents.

Even if we are only related by marriage, that is still related in my book, otherwise one is not related to half of your aunts and uncles, or to any of your in-laws! (In-laws might not be such a good example, lol.)

So then we are 'country cousins'.

And waiting only a day is still amazingly fast. Some of my requests to other members are 6 weeks old with no transfer, no explanation, no reply, no contact. I hate to pester them again, but I guess I will... maybe after Christmas. Everybody is so busy now.

And with most FG members using anonymous IDs, those who have not written back very well might also be related to the memorial I requested from them, maybe even related to me.

In just 1 1/2 months of FG membership, I have already stumbled across 3 other members who are:

a 4th cousin-once-removed whom I have never met before, and

the wife of the grandson of an uncle, (by his first wife, not by my aunt), and

a 1st cousin whom I have not had any contact with for over 50 years, not since we were both kids.

Have a nice Holy Days.

Correction to my prior message, but it was probably obvious. Andrew Jackson FREEMAN was the father of Wm Martin, and Wm Martin FREEMAN was the father of Clara:

Andrew Jackson FREEMAN & Luticia Emmaline TAFT
were the parents of

Wm Martin FREEMAN who married Laura (BUTTS) (his first of two wives).
Wm Martin FREEMAN & Laura were the parents of

Clara (FREEMAN) BOWERS, who was my grandmother.

(I need to get more sleep.)

Sorry for the double post. I'm new to FG and still learning the ropes. I thought a 'reply' to a message in my message box would post like a thread in my message box. Now I see they work more like an instant-messenger system with replies going back and forth.

Oh well, learn something every day!

RE: Luticia

The last time I went to Dent Co was several years ago to bury the cremains of my father in the Veterans section of the cemetery there. He had no ancestral connection to Salem, but he and my mother lived there for a few years before my mother became terminally ill and needed to live closer to a major hospital. He loved wearing cowboy boots and a cowboy hat to feel like a part of the town.

Well, although several links have not been posted here, I have verified that

Andrew Jackson FREEMAN & Luticia Emmaline TAFT
were the parents of

Wm Martin FREEMAN who married Laura (BUTTS) (his first of two wives).
A. J. & Laura were the parents of

Clara (FREEMAN) BOWERS, who was my grandmother.

So I was correct in the first place, Andrew Jackson FREEMAN and Luticia (TAFT) FREEMAN were my great, great grandparents.

Thank you again for the transfer of Luticia, and I would appreciate it if you would also transfer her husband, as you offered, Andrew Jackson FREEMAN.

Now, how does this make me related to you?

RE: Luticia

I have not yet found any FREEMAN or BOWERS in Dent Co that I am not related to. (I'm a double cousin to Ken Fiebelman, the GREAT historian of Dent County.)

But right not I'm not sure if Luticia and her husband, are direct ancestors or if he is only a cousin. Will be happy to transfer Luticia back to you, if it is not a direct relationship as I first thought. It is only important to me that the memorials be maintained by someone within the family and with a personal interest. I'm trying to work on too many lines at the same time, which leads to confusion from information over-load.

Wow what a fast reply!

Hold up on my transfer request till I double-check my tree, which has WAAAAY too many
Andrew-Jackson'es in it (at least 5 that I know of). I have to be sure I am not confusing an Andrew Jackson BOWERS who married a FREEMAN girl, with your Andrew Jackson FREEMAN... Plus the fact that sooo many people married relatives of the spouses of their siblings. It's enough to make my head spin.

Since you are somewhat connected to Luticia, just wait till I double check my connection.

Thanks
