Thank you so much for the information and websites so I can learn more and add to his bio, and possibly his wife's bio. Can you give me the names of his children by any chance?

Wow, that's fascinating to be able to trace family back to the Civil War. Veterans Dept has him listed as Gipson, instead of Gibson, but stone correctly says Gibson. Wonder if there's a way to contact Veterans Dept & get it corrected?

I enjoyed the challenge of trying to find it. In case u missed my earlier post, military records show him as Gipson (with P), even tho gravestone is spelled Gibson. They also had the plot location slightly off, but I sent a note via the edit tab for the Veterans Dept to correct that. I believe Dept of Veterans Affairs is handling his memorial, I don't think it was transferred to anyone. Is he related to you?

You are very welcome. Miller Cemetery isn't so far from me but is back off the main highway and I kept putting off going. I got pictures of most of the graves but as always I seem to overlook a few. Glad your request was one I didn't miss!

I am going to try this again. Internet service here has been pretty bad recently. It was intermittent and super slow when your message came in. I can read them on my Blackberry, but have trouble answering.
It was your great uncle (James) Russell Chapman who got me started doing genealogy about 30 years ago. I had been interested but he had a good start and had done it all the hard way - by mail & in old dusty county records rooms. By that time he was unable to continue so gave me much of his work.
My regular e-mail address is email@example.com. Lets exchange some information. I would like to catch up on your branch.
Cuz Ernie Chapman

You're very welcome! That's pretty cool that he's your 7th great grandfather. You've got pretty good luck to find a direct relative with a stone going that far back. I take all my photos in very high resolution, would you like me to email the original? It's much clearer. I noticed also in your request that you were interested in other Hagins in the cemetery. Only two others. A Christian Haggens immediately to the left of John, and a Jean Hagin immediately to John's right.

It's so nice to hear from you. Grandpa used to call his first wife Kitty. Was that her nickname?
I love the photo of grandpa you added. I have never seen it before. And I would love to share photos with you. I have tons of grandpa and our side of the family. I even have a photo of Helen Van Patter (Pauline's sister) and her son Dennis when they came down to visit. I have also met Pauline and I bet my mother has photos from then, as well. My mother LOVES Pauline and Helen and speaks very highly of them both. I'll have to ask her for the stories again so I can relay them to you.
I have become somewhat the keeper of the family photos (unofficially) and have been trying to scan them all in as I can. I have a few of grandpa's parents but would love to see anything you have of them as well.

When a memorial is transferred it means the person receiving the transfer is responsible for maintaining the memorial. For additional information read on "Find A Grave" Help with Find A Grave; Editing & Correcting Memorial Information; How do I get a relative's memorial transferred to me?; How do I update or delete a memorial that I manage? The FAQ section covers how to use Find A Grave.
