Donald:

I was wondering if you could transfer Herbert Keith's listing to me? He was my grandfather's brother, and I'd like to add him to my family's Find A Grave listings.

This is his brother (my grandfather): http://findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=78623089

This is his father - http://findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=116293960

Thank you,

Laura Strickland

Thanks for the reply Donald! How cool that you knew Harold and Janet! I wonder if you would mind my private messaging you with some family history questions about Harold's parents?

Vernal Fenlong. 109637027.
I have Vernal with headstone and death dates with his second wife in Calvary Cemetery, Massena. Your memorial has no dates. He died before # 2. Maybe she kept him with her? Let me know what you think and what to do. If you transfer your memorial to Calvary, I can add picture?

Janet Weller Dunn memorial
Hi Donald. Recently I suggested that the McClain name be added to Janet's memorial title, but it was declined. My reasoning for suggesting "Janet Weller McClain Dunn" was to make it easier for McClain family members to see that she has a memorial. In posterity, they may not know that she married my cousin Harold Dunn after Ora McClain died. Please reconsider. Thanks! Appreciate all that you do!

RE: Loren LaFluer
I agree David - this is my hubbys family and we are quite knowledgeable about it. What we have been told by the LaFLUER family, is, that once
leaving Canada, some were angry and changed the spelling (it appears LaFleur is one of the most popular names in French Canada)

Another Uncle's wife, didn't seem to like the connection to the Lafleurs, so she changed the name to LaFluer too!

What a mess!! As I am a direct family member, I know to seek them out under various spellings. So don't worry about the name changes, I prefer to use what the tombstone says, unless I have true knowledge that they used another spelling.

I DO wish Findagrave would set up some kind of program that would seek the various spellings (ie with and without the space!!)

I deleted mine. I hope the other person got permission to post the obit. Now that findagrave is part of ancestry.com there are publishers taking action against the illegal republishing on the site. They really don't like ancestry, as a big FOR profit company making money when they usually pay for the write to display the newspaper pages on the main site. Findagrave even updated their site terms of use to pass all liability on to the person who posts them, so folks really need to be careful and state permission was granted, rewrite it as a biography, or just post the paper name and date. They are pretty easy to find on lots of not for profit sites so there isn't any need to risk it. This is the link to the updated site terms of service if you want to point them to it. See item 3 to see what rights are being given to ancestry by any posted material. http://www.findagrave.com/disclaimer.html

RE: Eleanor Hurley #115734072
The date that I reported she started was believed to be 1929. This was caused by the museum not having a full set of newspapers that reported the teaching staff of the EHC school system. 1919 to mid-1928 is still missing. We found a list from a second local paper in 1923 that included her. Therefore, the 1929 from my original bio should be changed to 1923. I have often wondered how & when she came from her home in Norwood to EHC. At least now the "when" is answered. My family spent a week at her house in 1958, met her sister Josie and family, and toured the St.Lawrence Seaway locks and dams.

When the former high school/grade school was demolished, I had the chance to rescue various things for the museum. The first thing I got was a large bookshelf from her former 6th grade room. She had my father bring it from her first room in School #1. It now holds many school trophies and a set of high school yearbooks in the center of the museum. For me and a few others she still lives on in our memories. Thank you again for her memorial.

Donald,

We recently found some old newspapers at the museum and learned in a 09NOV1923 issue of "The NEWS" that Miss Hurley was listed as a grade school teacher. Given her birth date and her education education in a Normal School (usually 2 years) and prior teaching experience, I would suspect that this would be her first year in EHC. Can you please correct the my previous information I sent you. Thank you again for making her entry. I am still looking through my family photos for a nicer one than in the school classroom photos in the 1960 EHCGS yearbook.

Cheryl Ayres
Re: Ayres/Ayers spellings
If you look at the obituary one daughter Helen Ayres used the Ayres spelling, his grandfather's Hiram senior used the Ayres spelling while others use the Ayers spelling. The problem some documents for same person will have both spellings on different documents, they are from the same family, I know I have had to change my driver license because they used the most Ayers when we spell ours Ayres, I make a point now of spelling my name to others so they get it right. In the early day, alot of the time they used to spell it like it sounded, this could be the case of the engraver, regardless I have changed it like what the gravestone reads.

Josephine Creighton
I received a message that my information was declined for Josephine Creighton #137692610. However, if you go to her father's site James Creighton #53858906, Josephine is listed as a daughter. Perhaps I put in incorrect numbers but I feel her mother is Catherine Creighton #53858916 and father is James Creighton. Please advise.

Re: Find A Grave #135401059. Is the data on the memorial sourced or is it from an obituary? I am researching these same families and can not find much. For instance, when I looked for Josephine with Charles and Anna, I went to the 1900 Census and found Effie b. 1885 and she married Wm Duffus in 1814. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx, Walt
