RE: Grant and John H Barker
Grant Barker, died on Friday Aug 20, 1909, near Wellington, Menifee Co.

From the Mt Sterling Advocate, Wednesday, August 25, 1909.

Menifee County, On Friday near Wellington, W.H. Black shot and dangerously wounded Grant Barker, while the latter was cutting a Mr. Lovely.

Grant Barker is listed on find a grave as buried in the Higgins Cemetery, Morgan Co. Memorial # 76337984, Grant' birth place and death date are incorrect on find a grave. Nor does anyone know for sure Grant Barker is buried in the Higgins cemetery... some of the Barker family said Grant was buried by his grandparents Henry William Barker and Martha Lawson Barker, in the Barker Cemetery, Menifee Co. One needs to be very careful when coping info from find a grave, just as one has to be careful when coping stories from so called County History Books, or stories passed down by family members, many times this info is incorrect.

John H Barker and Lula Langworthy, were separated between 1926- 1930, Lula and some of the children were in Middletown, John H Barker was living by himself in Menifee Co. I have no ideal who the child Sarah Barker could be or where she is now.

Sorry I can't help you more.

RE: Mary Belle Ross Gilley
I never ever heard anybody refer to her as Polly.
She worked her adult life at the Hazel Green Academy. Yes, a lot of Mary's were called Polly & a lot of them were called Mollie. I forgot to tell you this tidbit. Rev C.C. Osborne wife was Lula, my grandpa & grandma, a half- sister to Henry P. Gilly. Well then my grandpa's half- sister Emma Osborne, married Henry P. Gilly in 1915 at the age of 15. That marriage didn't last long. I have a pic of Henry p & Emma. He is dressed like a cowboy with a pistol & all the gear. He is holding a donkey bridle & Emma is
sitting on it in her frock. It's funny now.
Thanks Dorothy . I hope you can find something on the other kids. I think Everett's wife came fromerly from Lee or Owsley Co.

My grandmother (Lula)died in 1921 of the Fever. She had 6 children.I have looked in Wolfe Co. records trying to find something on her sister, to no avail.

You are most welcome. Glad I could help. Where is Hiram buried.?? I have all the cemetery records for Wolfe & Menifee but Hiram is not in either one. That is not unusual though. A lot of
people don't have tombstones. HAPPY TO HEAR FROM YOU.

RE: Mary Belle Ross Gilley
OOps, something happened to my typing so I will try again.

Mary Belle Ross Gilley was my great-grandmother.
d/o Thomas Ross & Mary Jane Tester. She lived with her parents on Crooked Creek, Estill Co., Ky. I do not know if she was married to Charles Covington 111, but all of her children listed as
Ross were his. Maybe they had problems, but granny wouldn't discuss him with anyone and called them all Ross. She was never married to anyone else other than Gilly. Hiram was a Gilly
Hiram Bush Gilly. My grandmother's name on her marriage record was Covington. Charles Covington
111 lived a few houses from Granny on Crooked Creek. He lived with his parents & she lived with her mother. I have a pic. of Willie. He delivered the mail in Wolfe Co., when he was about 17. Hope this helps.

Happy searching

Ingram Cemetery
Dorothy, there are 2. I'm not sure which one it is. One is near Rowan, the other near Meniffee. I'm thinking it is probably the Meniffee one. Are you a descendant of Cad's?
