You're my cousin, related by Virginia & Betty
Dan, thanks so much for posting information about my grandmother Caroline Agnes Hughes Hestand and grandfather, Charles Leroy "Chick" Hestand. My mother Virginia just passed on October 29, 2014. I'm struggling to know how to write he obituary. The information you posted is so helpful in my search for answers. I would love to reconnect with you. We spoke briefly on the phone when you still lived in Chicago. Please feel free to contact me via email: julia.ojard@hotmail.com. I hope to hear from you!

RE: McFarland Bible
I copied all the pages with info on them and sent them to you months ago, before I donated the bible. Maybe you did not see the attachments at that time. I did notice you never mentioned my attachments. I thought you didn't think they were so great. Anyway, sorry you might not of seen them before now. There was wonderful info I thought you would like. Enjoy your searching. Judy Jones

Have a good trip.

RE: Susan Jane (Usrey) Neeley # 59177132
Mr. Russell,

Thank you for attaching Susan to her parents and for the kind information also. I was researching another Neeley and came across this line and wanted to link the family together (as much as I could). I'm going to request the owner of Philip's memorial include that he was a minister. The owner of the memorial for his wife, Mary Frances Warren, has her listed as "Mary Frances "Frances" (Warren) Usrey, mother of Juda, Susan Jane,
Phillip Jr., Richard, David, and Joseph Warren Usrey."

My mother's grandfather was also a minister and the founder of a church. It is a blessing to have such a memory/heritage of someone who faithfully loved and served as He (Jesus) also loved us.

I've a couple* of Neeleys that I could transfer to you, if you wish. Although, at this point, I've moved on elsewhere and would have to think a bit before I could tell you if the one is even in your line. The other is the reason I was searching. He is a Ahtna Taltsiine (water) Clan native of Alaska. So I doubt that he is your relative. Of course, he was an active Christian minister to his people and a preacher… so one never knows! Lol.

Again, thanks for the info. Its quite interesting. I do so enjoy genealogy.
BTW, you're a retired musician… what instrument(s)? I'm sure you miss that moment when, all the instruments coming together, make that glorious sound that just utterly surrounds you - unlike anything a radio or concert hall can replicate. Lol. I still my middle-school symphonic band days… and, believe me, THAT was a long time ago.

May the Lord bless and guide you.
Sincerely,
junebug

Dan, did you realize that you have entered a picture of the monument of Sydney Feldman at the Samuel Feldman memorial page in the Temple Cemetery, Nashville, TN?

RE: Cemetery Photo
If you click on the link to the cemetery's website on the Find A Grave cemetery page you will see where it says the office is located in the South Sound Manor facility. If you click on the "Facilities" link on the left side of the page you can see a photo of the building I described. Hopefully I can take a decent photo this weekend to add to the page.

The brick building was gone before I started going out there in 2007 so it was interesting to see what was once there.

RE: Cemetery Photo
Hi Dan,

Thanks for getting back to me. The building is no longer there. The building at the North St entrance is a white rotunda style one with pillars in front. Now that it has stopped raining I'm planning on going out this weekend and take a photo of the building and some area photos to add to the cemetery page.

Hi Dan,

It looks like you submitted a photo for the Masonic Memorial Park in Tumwater, Thurston County, WA. I have never seen that building out there. Can you tell me where you found the photo?

Thanks a lot,
Elaine

Minor correction on the directions to Cedarville Cemetery. It is Hwy 97, not Hwy 95. I would not have found it without your directions though. Thanks.

RE: You still there?
Hi Dan,
I've had to take a break from doing any genealogy for a while. It being wedding season I haven't done much else other than work on wedding dresses. Probably around November I might get back into it again. If you do have anything on Uncle Red I would like to see that.
Hope all is well with you.

Russell Family from Franklin
I believe I am a descendent of Henry Russell, father of Joseph Russell 1795-1848 from Franklin. I would like to find more about the family from this area. I will try to visit the Russell cemetery tomorrow, but don't know exactly what I am looking for. I live near Houston Texas but my son lives in Nashville so I am in the area a couple times a year.

RE: Beaverton
Dan,
I went through the genealogy stuff that was Uncle Red's. Not a whole lot of information there but maybe something you don't have. Did you say you had the book "Hestand Family of Page County, Virginia" by David B. Trimble? If you do then I won't send it to you unless you want it. I need your address to send the other information though.
Also, did you know your Aunt Virginia? Did she have any children? There was a note in some of my mom's stuff about trying to find Virginia or her children if she had any. I think maybe she had wanted some genealogy. If you know anything about them let me know.
My best friend's live in Franklin, TN. I got to visit them last fall and fell in love with the area. We spent a couple of days in Gatlinburg and had a blast.
Hopefully your area will avoid any tornadoes this year. So sad about Oklahoma.

ok, lets try this one more time, finger kept hitting the enter button instead of the return... Anyways, thank you for placing the photo of my uncle on the site. Could you please add That he was creamated to the memorial page. I am in the process of trying to find out what happened to his ashes, right now assuming that his wife has them, she moved from the area and don't know where she moved to.
Thanks for your time and effort in all you do.

Harold "Red" Hestand
Uncle Red was married to my mom's sister - Elda. My mother has recently passed away and now I have all her genealogy. I found a box of genealogy of Uncle Red's among her records and discovered your name on the "Find a grave" site.
Are you a relative of Uncle Reds? If so you might want this genealogy if you don't already have it. There was also a book entitled: "Hestand Family of Page County, Virginia" by David B. Trimble.

Final note on Seattle
Mount Pleasant is well kept. It's that the staff are fairly un-Pleasant to the public. They have a "You pay, we'll take a pic" deal going, but stop short of outright forbidding volunteer photography. Unfortunately, the layout of the place is incredibly chaotic, so that even with a grudging official location from them, something like "Section X, Row Y, Grave Z" means little in itself. Basically, it's a matter of volunteers having mowed the rows (as they say) adding pics, so that these days most (though not all) of the grave markers have been accounted for here. Back in the early 70s, prior management allowed volunteers to copy the burial register (to that point), which is why it may seem as though there are lots of pics yet to be added, when in reality most with a month/year "death" field entered (actually burial) and no birth info, and no pic, are unmarked.

Seattle followup
Thanks for the update, Dan. Is Marie Snyder Wilson entered here at F A G at all? I'll keep an eye out for the other names, although to be honest I'd bet on their likely being unmarked graves. As you may be aware, dealing with this cemetery is ... complicated.

Your Seattle photo request
Do you have any other names for family members who are buried with Carl Wilson at Mount Pleasant? The circumstances regarding photo requests in that place are ... unfortunate, so that info might help.
